  • Charming house, great hosts!

"Our stay at Mango St. Casita was just what we hoped for. It’s a sweet little house, next door to owners’ house, but out of sight—sufficiently private. We had our own little patio that backed up onto a patch of jungle, where we saw birds, butterflies and cute little lizards – but not the sloths or monkeys other guests sometime see! Owners Nichole and/or Mario would stop by every day to see if we needed help organizing anything, or finding food—I had some of the best fresh fish I’ve ever had, when Mario found us some red snapper that had just been caught that day! They helped arrange trips to Corcovado, snorkeling, the night hike (fabulous!), and a private bird-watching walk (Carlos was great!). We loved having our own little place, and felt very taken care of as well. The house is a 5 minute walk from the boat landing, or to the collection of little restaurants and tiny tiendas in town. You can also walk from town down the coast, in the jungle with ocean views and sweet little beaches, for as far as you want. We had a great time, and would happily come stay here again!"

  • No closer place to heaven than this!

"We spent 9 days here with our 7- and 10-year-old daughters and my 73-year-old mother, and everyone had the time of their lives. First of all, the house was amazing. The space was set up so well to give everyone their own space, and still feel so open to the surrounding wonders. We were easily able to close up the house when the rain got extreme, and open it back up to rejoin the jungle whenever we wanted. The grounds surrounding the house were a dream. Front yard is jungle, backyard is beach. The tide pools just up the beach kept us busy at low tide for 2 straight days, while we wandered around and checked out all the life down there. We made several trips down to Playa Pan Dulce to swim in the warm water and to let our girls boogie board. The hike to the King Louie waterfall was leisurely and beautiful, and my girls will remember swimming at the base of that fall forever. Coming back during drizzles to dip in the pool and sip cocktails was wonderful! I could never have imagined how plentiful the wildlife would be. We saw several kinds of monkey every day right around the house, often watching the Capuchins right on the ground as they foraged within feet of us. Amazing birds were everywhere, with toucans and macaws turning up regularly. We loved Matapalo so much and found so much to do there that we only ventured out twice – once for a zip-line adventure and once to get out on Golfo Dulce. We did Bosque Mar for the zip-lining, and they were really great – 2 very personable and informative guides and a great experience, even for my 73-year-old mother. The Dolphin and Snorkel Tour was a definite highlight, with more dolphins on display than I could have fathomed, and the guide, Josh, was fantastic. The snorkeling wasn’t great due to the time of year we were there, but everything else about the day more than made up for it. My 10-year-old is still talking about how she swam in the ocean under a waterfall next to a tropical fjord! Lady’s cooking was fantastic, and the kindness of her family added much to our experience. We were here during the "Green Season" and were prepared to be housebound at points due to weather, but we had only one day where we had rain for more than a couple of consecutive hours. The temperatures were great, and we were able to get out for everything we wanted to do. If you are considering a trip to the Osa – and you should be! – you couldn’t choose a better home base than this! Thank you, Lara!"

  • Magical experience in the OSA with our kids

"We had the most magical week at Casa Dos Rios. The wildlife was abundant (we saw sloths, all four types of monkeys, scarlet macaws, iguanas, lizards, frogs, a huge variety of birds) without even having to leave the yard. The house is very comfortable and the solar power and well water worked perfectly. Our kids (6, 8, and 9) all enjoyed exploring the nearby rivers and waterfalls, hunting for crabs and fish in the tide pools, and swimming in the water. All the people we met were incredibly friendly and helpful. Activities we greatly enjoyed included a waterfall hike with a local biologist, a whale watching trip (in which we saw humpback whales and dolphins), and snorkeling. The kids also took surf lessons with "Pollo" who lives next door and they LOVED it. It does take a day or two to get used to the place, because it is humid and we initially worried about safety for the kids. By day two though, our kids were roaming free, exploring the grounds, swimming in the ocean, talking with local kids they met, and having the time of their lives. Insects were never a problem, although we didn't have as much wind as we would have hoped, so it was hot! Definitely recommend the food at Martina's which is a 3 minute walk from the house (although the staff there weren't the friendliest). We would have stayed another week (or 2, or 3, or 4...) if we could have, and would definitely come back to this area and to this house. Owners were very easy to work with, provided lots of great information, and used a local manager who was very helpful as well. Thanks for an unbelievable week of adventures and getting back to what really matters! Pura Vida!"

  • Casa Arenosa, amazing tropical escape

"We stayed at Casa Arenosa in April and had an amazing time! The house is so beautiful. We enjoyed the large open kitchen for cooking meals, making smoothies and hanging out in. There are so many seating areas throughout the house, including hammocks, so it’s easy to find a place to relax or socialize. There is also a plunge pool, which was perfect for cooling off during the heat. The beach is just a few steps from the house through some almond tress. The water was beautiful and we saw so many scarlet macaws in the trees! It was great to come out and watch the sunrise at the beach as well. Mornings were also good for seeing all the wildlife that’s around. There were toucans, and tons of monkeys in the trees just outside the house! The caretaker Mike is great. He even made us a delicious dinner one night with fresh fish he had caught himself that day. The sheets and towels were changed every few days, which was very nice as well. The place is perfect for anyone looking for an incredible tropical escape, whether it’s just a couple or a large group of friends. I would highly recommend it to anyone."
