"We had a fabulous time at the Sierpe del Pacifico property. If you are looking for a wild Costa Rican adventure, then you won't be disappointed. The home is beautiful, and the views stunning. We were awakened by howler monkeys every morning and found them sleeping on the property during the day, and most mornings a large troupe of white-faced capuchin monkeys passed right by the house. There were lots of birds to watch, and a fruit garden to go pick your own fruit...paradise found! We took a night tour of the mangrove and saw mammals (including squirrel monkeys), birds, crocs, caimans and snakes. We took a horseback riding tour and were wowed by the generosity of Rosita and her family on their farmstead; we went fishing in the ocean and caught five species of fish including red snapper, albacore tuna and roosterfish - while seeing porpioses and sea turtles to boot! The house is well equipped, the staff are welcoming and friendly. When we went in March it was hot and humid for us northerners - an outdoor shower might be a nice addition to the property for a quick cool down - but all in all we were wowed with this portion of our trip."

"Hello fellow travelers!!!
My fiancee and I were fortunate enough to have found Life's a Wave a few years ago. We fell SO in love with the house that we went back for ten days the following year, and then when we got engaged a few months later, we both knew exactly where we wanted to get married - our "happy place" on the Osa peninsula!
Lara and Bill graciously opened their house to us this February for our ceremony on the beach in front of their house. We stayed at the house with 4 of our best friends and then 50 of our closest family and friends joined us on the Osa (taking over most of the other houses on the peninsula) for a week of wedding celebrations and pure bliss!!!
Life's a Wave is the most special house that we've ever experienced. The rooms are spacious, the grounds are immaculate, the views are unbelievable, and the amenities are endless! The care takers, Lady and Olman will cook the most AMAZING meals and they go above and beyond to make you feel at home.
Waking up to the sounds of waves and the jungle, taking a private outdoor shower while watching the scarlet macaws and monkeys, drinking Costa Rican coffee on the deck in the morning while reading a good book, or dipping in the pool and ocean are all a part of the unforgettable experiences that you will have at Life's a Wave. Not to mention - the surfing, hiking, sailing, massages, and checking out Martina's, the local bar with delicious food and cocktails! The Osa has this wonderful rustic quality, and the house feels SO luxurious. The balance is spectacular - beyond words!
We plan to come back to visit Life's a Wave every year for as long as we possibly can - It truly is magical. We highly recommend that you experience the stay at this wonderful home.
We could not have done our wedding without the help of Lara - she is so generous, helpful, and she was SUCH a great resource for all of our guests' travel and logistics. She is amazing, her and Bill's house is beyond words amazing.
Do yourself a favor, stay at Life's a Wave and explore the Osa Peninsula - Costa Rica's last frontier!!!!

"Pros. In the description it is quite clear that this is a remote location with incredible views. It certainly was that and more. The beach and grounds are beautiful. The water amazing for swimming. Glorified camping for sure. Rafa the caretaker is amazing and truly a hard worker and kind. He is worth his weight in gold. Jim and Sofie are very nice and accomodating. The boat ride to the house from Sierpe beautiful and the smells along the river are amazing. As Jim indicates in his review you should be in good shape for this adventure.
Cons. I am not in good shape at 57 but I thought I could do this. I did it but it was difficult for me. From getting in and out of the boat at the house (there is not a dock or ladder to the boat) to climbing the stairs to the house, I had a difficult time. The pictures of the house are somewhat accurate but overall not as nice in reality as in the pics but I find that is always the case when you rent homes or hotel rooms. The house is very worn but if camping is your thing you should be very happy here. The heat and humidity was unbearable for not only me but my 20 year old daughter and 53 year old husband.
We did a half day fishing trip with Jim and Sofie and they made sure my daughter caught a prize catch of a 50lb whahu fish. You should ask Jim to bring ice out for your fishing trip as that would make the trip more enjoyable for you as you won't have a way to get ice any other way.
We did see howler monkeys right outside our door and iguanas. We were not lucky enough to see the scarlet macaws.
We would not recommend the waterfall hike as promoted in the home manual. It is not an easy walk nor is it on an established trail. It felt like going in to Vietnam. Rafa saved my daughter and husband from being bitten by a 6ft long fer de lance snake. Rafa and his dogs spotted it first and killed it. Needless to say my family turned around and did not go to the waterfall that day.
Overall I would not return due to my age and physical fitness or not. The heat was too much for us and I felt that there were too many bugs and geckos in the house including ants. The house has a very wet and humid feel to it and it just turned me off.
Having said all this Jim could not have done anything more than he has done in describing the home and location. I feel he is accurate. I give this 4 stars not because of Jim but just in general my perception."

"We fell in love with this house. The pictures do not do it justice.
Open air, no bugs, gorgeous views, wonderful fresh water pool. Great drinking water right from the tap....I could go on. We enjoyed the hike down to the beach, hiking to the nearby waterfall, and spending time exploring the area. The drive from town was pretty easy but I would want to do it the first time in daylight. The cook and family that look after the place are a huge part of the appeal here. They are wonderful people and the meals were something we looked forward to every time. LOVED this place!! I'm bringing my fishing rod next time. We were a family of 5 and another couple and there was plenty of room. I love the sound of surf at night but some people might want an earplug or two and a flashlight is handy."
