  • AMAZINGLY WONDERFUL

"We can't say enough wonderful things about our stay - the booking process was simple and seamless, the home is stunning and even more beautiful than the photos, the surf was awesome for the boys, easy beach access, Desiree and Isaac were wonderful (Isaac even came with us one day on a drive to show us a good snorkeling spot), the housekeeper cleaned the rooms and community space daily and did a great job, the wildlife is spectacular which you see every day on the property grounds, the plunge pool is perfect for cooling off, a couple of waterfall hikes within walking distance, great hiking, Matapalo Lodge bar is walking distance, etc. etc. etc. We're ready to go back!!!"

  • Happy traveler

"Came down to the Osa Peninsula to seek adventure and surfing; we were not disappointed. This is a beautiful location; beach just steps from the front deck. Very clean. The staff was very helpful, and hospitable. Host provided great suggestions on things to see and do in the area. We had a personal cook come in and prepare meals for us that were very good. Great place to come if you like being close to nature but desire comfortable accommodations. If you like being around large crowds, this is NOT the place for you. Very serene, surrounded by beautiful lush vegetation and wildlife, bordering one of the most beautiful beaches I've seen with great surf."

  • ABSOLUTE PARADISE off the beaten path

"On summer break, what does a family do with a 16-year-old girl and a 13-year-old boy? What I wanted for my family was a cultural and educational experience that engaged my kids, but without them knowing they were actually learning anything. It is summer BREAK after all! I read an article about the Osa Peninsula a number of years ago, and I found Casa Bambu online. It seemed like everything I wanted for my family to experience from a vacation. I emailed Lyn back and forth (as a mother, I needed reassurances and got them), and she set up everything for the perfect getaway. And what a vacation it was! It went BEYOND our expectations! First, the absolute beauty of Casa Bambu is astounding. Every day you will see something different with the changing tides. The beautiful small storms that roll in change the landscape view and you'll witness a multitude of animals that call your front yard their home. From the spectacular sunrises, the breath-taking waterfalls, to the spider, capuchin, howler and squirrel monkeys swinging through the trees, the rainbow-colored toucans, the fearless and friendly coitis, the warm, rich smell of the earth on the "road" to Matapalo Beach, my mind is filled with wonderful memories of a place I will never forget. It was so easy for us to enjoy everything because our home was clean (spotless!) and had everything we needed to cook great meals and sleep comfortably and soundly (when the howler monkeys didn't have other things in mind!). There are maps for hiking and beach and tide information; everything was made easy for us. Lyn set up a fabulous boat tour for us out of Puerto Jiminez that was worth every penny. Four hours snorkling and swimming with dolphins on the blue-green waters of Golfo Dulce - we saw 40 times as many dolphins as we did boats. Our zipline tour that Lyn set up with Edwardo will not be forgotten either, both for the ziplining and for the fact that after telling Edwardo I had yet to see a sloth, he "located" one for me not far from where we were. Our journey to see this sleepy little animal was an adventure we will never forget! Bridges over dirt roads in Costa Rica are not for the faint at heart! Lyn and Kirk are the best hosts, always kind and helpful. They take care of and take pride in their property. William took us on two hikes, one to a waterfall with a swimming hole - FABULOUS - the other on a night hike where we saw a kinkajou. We recommend this vacation to any family and we hope to come back soon!"

  • A Completely Relaxing Couple of Weeks

"As others here and in travel guides have indicated, Sierpe is a quiet town at the edge of a patchwork of palm plantations: the jumping off point for river tours, fishing and junkets to Drake’s Bay. Based largely on the comments from fellow reviewers, we had the pleasure of booking 2 weeks through our hosts, Morton and Mary Ann. The house lies several hundred metres from the Sierpe town square, a market and not far from a small row of hotels, tour operator offices and family-style restaurants serving typical tico fare. Morton undertook major renovations a number of years ago and keeps it in good shape. The floor plan is open with ample kitchen, dining, living room, and office that are all contiguous. It easily accommodated 5 of us with a nice balance of social space and room for privacy. Morton has also installed air conditioning. This was definitely a luxury and welcome respite from the heat and humidity. We had fine weather and spent most of our time lounging, reading and hanging out on the covered patio: retreating into the cool of the house after dark when the mosquitos came out. The patio overlooks the Sierpe river is a great place to watch birds, iguanas and other wildlife including crocodiles drifting in the current downstream. Morton is a terrific and gracious host. He arrived right after New Year’s, staying in his other house across town (2 minutes away) and would pop round for a beer and a chat or to see if we needed anything. Sonya, a neighbour who helps out with the house, is also a delight. She stopped by from time to time to check in and surprised us by sharing some of her homemade desserts. Sonya’s son runs river cruises and fishing trips and we enjoyed an evening wildlife outing on the water with him. In all, Sierpe may not have much going on compared to the hustle and bustle and party scene in Jaco. However, staying at Morton’s house was the perfect choice for us: a spacious house, a warm and congenial community, and laid back. There were plenty of opportunities to traipse about the area, head up the coast or out to Corcovado, Drake’s Bay, the mangrove swamps along the river, or to chill out on the patio and do nothing at all. Just what we were looking for!"
