  • Magical experience in the OSA with our kids

"We had the most magical week at Casa Dos Rios. The wildlife was abundant (we saw sloths, all four types of monkeys, scarlet macaws, iguanas, lizards, frogs, a huge variety of birds) without even having to leave the yard. The house is very comfortable and the solar power and well water worked perfectly. Our kids (6, 8, and 9) all enjoyed exploring the nearby rivers and waterfalls, hunting for crabs and fish in the tide pools, and swimming in the water. All the people we met were incredibly friendly and helpful. Activities we greatly enjoyed included a waterfall hike with a local biologist, a whale watching trip (in which we saw humpback whales and dolphins), and snorkeling. The kids also took surf lessons with "Pollo" who lives next door and they LOVED it. It does take a day or two to get used to the place, because it is humid and we initially worried about safety for the kids. By day two though, our kids were roaming free, exploring the grounds, swimming in the ocean, talking with local kids they met, and having the time of their lives. Insects were never a problem, although we didn't have as much wind as we would have hoped, so it was hot! Definitely recommend the food at Martina's which is a 3 minute walk from the house (although the staff there weren't the friendliest). We would have stayed another week (or 2, or 3, or 4...) if we could have, and would definitely come back to this area and to this house. Owners were very easy to work with, provided lots of great information, and used a local manager who was very helpful as well. Thanks for an unbelievable week of adventures and getting back to what really matters! Pura Vida!"

  • Paradise.... comfortable yet tropical!

"When you come to Costa Rica you expect amazing nature, abundant wild life, and deserted beaches... You won´t find this in Quepos or Dominical anymore, but it is exactly what we found at Playa Lapa! I visited Playa Lapa for 10 nights at the beginning of July, I wish I could have stayed there longer, this is definitely the best place in Costa Rica that I have visited and one of my favorite places in general! I was travelling with my family with a rented 4x4 and we decided to spend our whole Costa Rican vacation in this simply amazing beach rental, one of the nearest options to Corcovado National Park- only a 45 minute walk away. The two master bedrooms are beautiful, with gorgeous views of the jungle, beach and nearby lagoon. We were completely surrounded by the green vivid colours of the flaura, the sounds of birds and the singing frogs and insects, I slept so good and it was so exciting and magical to wake up in the morning! I already miss staying there! Everything was absolutely perfect. There was so much fresh fruit to pick from in the 2 hectare garden, it was brilliant! We spent many afternoons animal spotting and reading on the welcoming and private deck area of the house. We enjoyed a touching red sunset walking on the wild beach towards the lagoon, only a few minutes walk away from our ´home´. We went to the Corcovado National Park, one of the best experiences of our lives! Also not to be missed are the body surfing and strolling on the beach, breath-taking sunsets, morning choruses of howler monkeys, the vast view of the jungle and Pacific Ocean, kayaking in the lagoon viewing caiman, crocodiles, myriad birds and no other tourists, and soaking up the remarkable ambiance of the jungle’s embracing warmth, and vital intensity of “pura vida.” We are all really looking forward to go back to Playa Lapa for our next vacation!! This place is way more than a rental house, it becomes a home very quickly, 5 stars all round!"

  • Muy Tranquillo!

"We spent 5 nights at the Pelican House at the beginning of the green season. Almost every day we had a little rain and lots at night. It was nice as the rain helped to cool things down. We of course had plenty of sun! We loved the design of the house and really enjoyed the fans throughout as well as the indoor/outdoor hammocks. The house has an outdoor shower, which was fantastic (someone wrote in the house book to take two showers a day), I agree…very refreshing. Rafa, the caretaker was an amazing host. He showed us how to cook with yucca, cleaned pineapple and coconut for us. He does not speak English, however is a great communicator (I brought along a Spanish/English dictionary). It was so neat to be fully immersed in Spanish. Once you get to the beach, which is about a 5 minute walk from the house, hang a left, cross over little river and head down beach for about 25 minutes to the Pearl of the Osa. Nice little restaurant with great service. Oh by the way on the path to the beach we also saw a family of about 10-12 squirrel monkeys. Puerto Jimenez is about 25-30 minutes from the house and the BM grocery has everything you might need…you will even get a good laugh when you mutilate your Espanola? Go to Marisqueria on the beach and have a beer and the ceviche…..awesome! While at the Pelican House went on the Fincakobo chocolate tour and had a great snack at the end (bananas and chocolate)….be aware that it is a ways outside of town and if you need a taxi it is about $80. We also took a dolphin tour (Changing Tides with Maryann)……don’t worry captain is Tino and not Gilligan?…you will get home. We were able to swim with the dolphins (spinner) and took a tour of an animal rescue with Sarah and Carol, they were great hosts and we are thankful there are people in the world like them. Advice: Too much to do, go back often……we did not get to see Carate or Matapalo, which we heard was beautiful. Buy lots of water at the store and bring multiple bottles of sun tan lotion and bug spray. Sleep in the hammocks…..turn fan on outside on the desk and relax with cold beer or coffee in the morning? There is no outdoor grill…so be prepared to cook inside. Allison and Jim the house was beautiful and the breeze and fans were a much needed relief after coming down from Sierpe Thanks! can’t wait to come back."
