  • First Time In Costa Rica

"This 2 bedroom cabina in the jungle is an excellent home away from home. It has everything from salt and pepper to beach towels and coolers and even a crib board. It also has a washing machine with laundry detergent. There are ceiling fans in every room which is enough to keep even frosty Canadians cool. Howler monkeys can be heard along the nearby creek as well as parrots, toucans and some freaky sounding toads. This jungle is not quiet and can be a little intimidating but the house is very secure and keeps critters out. The road is not paved and although is bumpy and dusty can be easily negotiated in a car. The nearby village of Ojochal has everything you can ever need including some remarkably good restaurants. In fact every meal I had was delicious. The beaches are just 15 minutes away and the water is warmer than a pool. Plus the ocean off Costa Rica is way less salty than around Mexico. All in all it was a wonderful stay. This is real Costa Rica and sometimes the Internet is slow and the area is definitely rural. A lot of people speak English but I strongly suggest basic Spanish to make for a more memorable experience."

"We had a fabulous time in Costa Rica, the town of Jaco and this beautiful home. Having never been to Costa Rica the owner Adam Brown and the property manager Elena made our stay a very memorable, informative and safe.Casa Tranquila was everything and more as described, it was hard to leave the house every day, but there so much to see and do.The local restaurants are very good, the Lemon Zest is a must to try, if you like to cook some your own meals as we do the local seafood is outstanding and inexpensive. We would highly recommend Abner Custom Transportation for airport plckup and day tours as recommended by Elena, Abner is very personable, knowledgeable and reliable. We hope to return to Costa Rica soon."

  • Muy Tranquillo!

"We spent 5 nights at the Pelican House at the beginning of the green season. Almost every day we had a little rain and lots at night. It was nice as the rain helped to cool things down. We of course had plenty of sun! We loved the design of the house and really enjoyed the fans throughout as well as the indoor/outdoor hammocks. The house has an outdoor shower, which was fantastic (someone wrote in the house book to take two showers a day), I agree…very refreshing. Rafa, the caretaker was an amazing host. He showed us how to cook with yucca, cleaned pineapple and coconut for us. He does not speak English, however is a great communicator (I brought along a Spanish/English dictionary). It was so neat to be fully immersed in Spanish. Once you get to the beach, which is about a 5 minute walk from the house, hang a left, cross over little river and head down beach for about 25 minutes to the Pearl of the Osa. Nice little restaurant with great service. Oh by the way on the path to the beach we also saw a family of about 10-12 squirrel monkeys. Puerto Jimenez is about 25-30 minutes from the house and the BM grocery has everything you might need…you will even get a good laugh when you mutilate your Espanola? Go to Marisqueria on the beach and have a beer and the ceviche…..awesome! While at the Pelican House went on the Fincakobo chocolate tour and had a great snack at the end (bananas and chocolate)….be aware that it is a ways outside of town and if you need a taxi it is about $80. We also took a dolphin tour (Changing Tides with Maryann)……don’t worry captain is Tino and not Gilligan?…you will get home. We were able to swim with the dolphins (spinner) and took a tour of an animal rescue with Sarah and Carol, they were great hosts and we are thankful there are people in the world like them. Advice: Too much to do, go back often……we did not get to see Carate or Matapalo, which we heard was beautiful. Buy lots of water at the store and bring multiple bottles of sun tan lotion and bug spray. Sleep in the hammocks…..turn fan on outside on the desk and relax with cold beer or coffee in the morning? There is no outdoor grill…so be prepared to cook inside. Allison and Jim the house was beautiful and the breeze and fans were a much needed relief after coming down from Sierpe Thanks! can’t wait to come back."

  • Paradise Found

"We stayed at Casa Teka for 5 days and we had a truly amazing experience. This beautiful home is close enough to town, but far away from the traffic. The only sounds you can hear is the ocean waves crashing on a tranquil beach only steps away and the monkeys and exotic birds playing in the mango trees throughout the lush green garden setting surrounding the property. The large open outdoor deck lets you be one with nature as you sit within the tree canopy. The local market one block away has all the food essentials and supplies that you would need and Mary's restaurant (walking distance) is a great place to treat yourself to dinner. I would recommend Casa Teka for a family vacation, romantic getaway, surf/fishing trip, or anyone who wants to have an authentic Costa Rican experience. The manager Pia took great care of us and we are already looking forward to our next visit. Pura vida."
