"We fell in love with this house. The pictures do not do it justice.
Open air, no bugs, gorgeous views, wonderful fresh water pool. Great drinking water right from the tap....I could go on. We enjoyed the hike down to the beach, hiking to the nearby waterfall, and spending time exploring the area. The drive from town was pretty easy but I would want to do it the first time in daylight. The cook and family that look after the place are a huge part of the appeal here. They are wonderful people and the meals were something we looked forward to every time. LOVED this place!! I'm bringing my fishing rod next time. We were a family of 5 and another couple and there was plenty of room. I love the sound of surf at night but some people might want an earplug or two and a flashlight is handy."

"There's nothing like the Treetop House anywhere else. One of our kids compared it to Alice in Wonderland's house - another thought we were living like Curious George. They especially loved loved loved swinging in the hammocks!
It's not the most comfortable place, however. The house could be upgraded very easily by just the addition of better beds (the beds are just thin mattresses on top of bedframes made with 2x4s - there are no boxsprings), mattress pads (there are none), and better linens / blankets. We found dead bugs and body hair on the sheets making me wonder if they're washed after each visitor. Our 7-year-old son was bitten by a scorpion one night that was hiding in the bedsheets. I don't blame the house for this - after all, we were staying in the jungle and these things do happen.
It's also an incredibly noisy house - if anybody upstairs (and there are four floors so there's always someone "upstairs") walks around you can hear absolutely every creak and step.
That being said, there is incredible charm here just because of its uniqueness. Also, Sabine is such a gracious host - she was so helpful booking our adventure tour at Selvatura and a night hike (both highly recommended!). And we loved being able to hear the howler monkeys in the morning."

"We stayed here for 4 nights in March and it was wonderful. The house is beautiful and it is set up to take full advantage of the breeze and the view. The weather was extremely hot during our stay -36 degrees Celsius - but we were able to sleep comfortably with the provided fans.
I'm a bird lover and it was sooo incredible to watch scarlet macaws in the trees just outside the bedroom windows. The property has all kinds of fruit trees and wildlife. We cooked for ourselves as we had been eating almost exclusively in restaurants during the earlier part of our vacation. The kitchen is very well-equipped and the fridge can hold a huge amount of food. The area is really incredible and we enjoyed exploring on foot and by car. The owners (Phoebe specifically) were very prompt in all communications and provided very helpful information. The caretaker family were always available and accommodating. We did not require help cooking meals but we did ask them to do some laundry for us and to help to arrange a dolphin-watching tour. They were always available to answer questions but were not at all intrusive.
We highly recommend staying here. We hope to return ourselves to the Osa and to Quinta Sonada."

"My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed Matapalo and our time at Ron's Beach Bungalow. The website's description of the property is spot-on, but doesn't do justice to the in-person experience - you gotta live it to really appreciate it. The beach is a quick scamper from the bungalow and was basically all our's day and night. Ron is a stellar host who knows Costa Rica very well. The neighbors and their dogs are super chill and friendly too.
The affordable nightly rate of the bungalow comes with numerous perks, including an on-site tourism information center (Ron!). Upon our arrival, he informed us of all the right spots for food and adventures and we enjoyed all of his recommendations. Matapalo is a quiet little village with great restaurants and convenient markets for groceries and other odds and ends.
The more populated (and touristy) surf town of Dominical is only ten minutes down the main road if that's more your vibe. Dominical has a conveniently located bank for money exchange (which we frequented) and great stores, and bars/restaurants, like Tortilla Flats (also frequented).
Ron set us up with some of his surfboards, boogy boards and a white water rafting excursion down the Rio Savegre, which is only a few minutes away and an amazing experience. He also put some bananas out on his property so the monkeys would come by and give us a show, highly entertaining. Ron provided some great directions to many other great spots in the mountains nearby and for our more lengthy venture to the Poas Volcano (also really cool).
In sum, Ron's Slice of Paradise gives you the whole pie, amigos. We enjoyed the privacy and tranquility of the beach, the amazing surf and beautiful sunsets. His Beach Bungalow was perfecto for a couple of lovebirds (wink wink) celebrating their 1-year anniversary.
Needless to say, we highly recommend this property to anyone who appreciates nature, culture, seclusion, great food, and hospitality. Thanks for everything, Ron!
