  • Great location and experience

"Had a great holiday vacation. Very nice condo with easy beach access. Just far enough away from the in-town New Years Eve craziness, but close enough to walk to dinner. Gary was very helpful in planning our activities too."

  • A woman on her own having the best vacation

"I have read all the reviews and can only echo the facts and sentiments described however I want to add something here which may be helpful to a single woman vacationing on her own who faces concerns of safety and socializing. In Zancudo life is simple and simply enchanting from the warm surf to the inclusive community. I thought I had entered a community as close to paradise as one could imagine. My stay at Kris and Jim's Casita was so very charming, comfortable and restorative. I found I could have as much socializing or as much quiet time that one could desire and I my world became one of regular yoga three days a week at Los Cocos, long walks on the beach, hammock with a good book, frequent swims, many dinners with newly made friends at homes or any of the fabulous local restaurants and so much delicious fruits and vegetable arriving twice a week by the truck which stopped right outside your door if you left your sign out! I felt so safe, so surrounded by the best people and I met a number of women living on their own in Zancudo who had made this place their home. This is a very desirable lodging for all of the reasons you have read about by other reviewers who visited with their partners or with family but if you are a woman looking for a place to enjoy on your own I would highly recommend staying here in Zancudo at this Casita. Kris and Jim are wonderful hosts who share their knowledge and community fully with their guests and it is obvious that they take pride in the Casita which is spacious, clean well equipped and comfortable."

  • Paradise

"Casa Java is everything all these reviews note and more - it was time for my husband & I to get away from the rat race and to arrive at Casa Java was an instant unwind - it is amazing. Though then we started to have some fun with (trying) to learn to Surf (Mick was fantastic), out Fishing to catch our dinner, horse rising, montezuma water fall, hiking, and of course the international cuisine in the many restuarants of Santa Teresa - incredible. We are on our way back home and miss it already. Thanks so much Carlota for your amazing place and thanks Lauren also for looking after us so well. Fingers crossed for our return."

  • Very unique house

"There's nothing like the Treetop House anywhere else. One of our kids compared it to Alice in Wonderland's house - another thought we were living like Curious George. They especially loved loved loved swinging in the hammocks! It's not the most comfortable place, however. The house could be upgraded very easily by just the addition of better beds (the beds are just thin mattresses on top of bedframes made with 2x4s - there are no boxsprings), mattress pads (there are none), and better linens / blankets. We found dead bugs and body hair on the sheets making me wonder if they're washed after each visitor. Our 7-year-old son was bitten by a scorpion one night that was hiding in the bedsheets. I don't blame the house for this - after all, we were staying in the jungle and these things do happen. It's also an incredibly noisy house - if anybody upstairs (and there are four floors so there's always someone "upstairs") walks around you can hear absolutely every creak and step. That being said, there is incredible charm here just because of its uniqueness. Also, Sabine is such a gracious host - she was so helpful booking our adventure tour at Selvatura and a night hike (both highly recommended!). And we loved being able to hear the howler monkeys in the morning."
