  • Getaway to a simple, relaxing, quiet life

"Took a few months to come around and write this but we new from the moment we arrived at El Secret Garden, we were going to have a great time and would have to share it with the rest of the world. I had been in Kuwait for six months prior to coming to Cabuya because I was in the military. I was away from a lot of things, but what I missed most was the love of my life. Instead of traveling home for two weeks, my boyfriend and I decided on a little rendezvous spot in Costa Rica. We knew when we saw this property that our search was over. One word to start this whole thing off is 'Jenny', the property manager. Jenny was our go-to gal for everything. She set up a hotel for our first night's stay right next to the airport....with breakfast! She then made travel arrangements for us the next day via taxi-boat-taxi to our little home for two weeks. She met us at the door with a smile and invited us to her place for dinner. It was such a smooth transition from place to place. She really took care of everything, leaving us to be carefree on vacation. We had our first meal at Jenny's restaurant/house. We fell in love with her family and her food. She really cared about us and the experience we were going to have. My boyfriend and I had all these amazing plans on our To-Do list and Jenny had the answer for everything. While we did spend some days just hanging around the house, we also had plans to go fishing, hiking, snorkeling, and even to visit a volcano a few hours away. Jenny rented equipment out to us, set up travel arrangements and even took even time to teach us little words/phrases to help us get around. We learned about currency, culture, wildlife, and food that made Costa Rica unique, and Jenny and her family made that possible. My boyfriend and I were lucky to be able to reunite in a place like Cabuya. The people are lovely and the area is beautiful. The world grew that much larger in those two weeks, and so did our understanding of each other, but I suppose that is what traveling does for you. To say we had a great time is truly an understatement. We will never forget this little home away from home and our newly adopted family."

  • Total Relaxation!

"Our week spent at Casa Amarilla was wonderful. From the great caretakers to the fully furnished home. Our party included two couples and this home had plenty of room for all of us! Prior to our arrival we received detailed driving instructions that were most accurate. We did encounter a road closure on the new highway that delayed our initial arrival so be sure to check ahead on your arrival date for any possible road closures. This was our first visit to Costa Rica and a few things stood out. First and foremost is the friendliness of all the people we met. Everyone we met were more than happy to help this group of gringo's find their way around the area. The next welcome surprise was the sheer beauty of the area, from the frequent visits from the Macaws to the gorgeous sunsets each evening. One of the greatest days we had was with Tico Style Tours where we met Gino and his lovely wife Maria. In one day we visited Gino's private beach, went fishing, snorkeling and enjoyed fresh fruit and lobster on the beach. We ended the day with a beautiful oceanview sunset and a great dinner prepared by Maria and delivered to Casa Amarilla. Last but not least we would like to thank Patri for all the great information and ideas she provided prior to and during our visit that helped make our vacation a most comfortable and relaxing time. We hope to return to Costa Rica in the near future for a much longer visit Pura Vida Mike & Karla"

  • Loved it

"We are a family of 4- two adults and 2 children age 6 and 8. We all loved staying at Casa Toucan. Very spacious rooms, open plan, view on the ocean over lush jungle. Space, air, bird calls, guttural monkey sounds- indescribable! Truly a place to relax and enjoy every minute. Pool is great, water is warm and clean, no chlorine smell. House is very clean as well. It is also very spacious and very comfortably furnished in a great taste. We found everything we need for a comfortable stay. The owners provided beach towels and toys, huge collection of DVDs (but only few for kids), paper towels, even laundry detergent was provided! Even thought the house is in the middle of a jungle we have not had wild life crawling around the house. We saw a tiny lizard inside a few times, I think it was anole. Outside we saw toucans and lizards. Heard but seldom saw monkeys. Waterfall a little ways from the house is beautiful and the water is deep enough for swimming. Last few steps to the fall are quite steep but manageable. Staying at Casa Toucan was great. We definitely got the value for our money."

  • Perfect and Unforgettable

"If you want to experience the natural vibes of Costa Rica without giving up the luxury modern conveniences and without the hassles of a hotel, this is the ideal choice. The two-bedroom, two-bath layout of the Casita was perfect for our family of three, a couple with a college-age son. We visited for 8 days over the Labor Day weekend and didn't want to leave. Mercedes is the perfect host because she respects your privacy but is only an email away if you need anything. She connected us with some unforgettable experiences, and practicalities like best restaurants and where to buy groceries. The wifi works great and there's a welcome book that explains everything about the house and surrounding area. We never turned on the TV because there is so much to do. We went canyoning, zip lining, hiking and rafting. You'll need a 4-wheel drive to go anywhere off the main highway and the road to Casa Namaste is one of the best maintained in the area. But the beauty of this property is that you don't have to go anywhere. We woke up to the sunrise, bird calls and howler monkeys. Afternoon was happy hour by the pool and dinner we prepared in the well-equpped kitchen. Venture down to the bottom of the hill to swim in the natural waterfalls and whirlpools. And did I mention the view? The pictures don't do it justice. We're a family of world travelers who like to "go local" whenever we can. This was one of our all-time best experiences with a rental property. Highly recommended."
