"Our family stayed here during March break for 7 days. Our daughters were 15 and 13 at the time and loved the experience. If you're looking for something different than all-inclusive, a bit of an adventure and want to see the real Costa Rica this is the place. Private and quiet but minutes from everything you may need. The house was just as described and clean when we arrived. Melissa (housekeeper) and her daughter were just finishing cleaning the house when we arrived. Fiona (Owner) called us at that time as well to see that we had arrived and everything was Ok. There were bikes for us to use during the week, and kayaks. The property is nicely landscaped and well taken care of without being overly manicured. The beach is rocky but with shoes is still nice to walk and beachcomb. At high tide the water is shallow for wading and again with water shoes it is no problem to walk out.
The home is simple but beautiful with lots of wood and tile and wide open windows for air flow. Every morning I watched the sunrise from our bed through the window. What a glorious way to awake. We expected to be awoken by Howler monkeys every morning but the fruit on the trees around us were not ripe. They visited the property once in the afternoon and hung out for a while. On our second last day they awoke us with their loud calls. Very cool but creepy at the same time. We found where they were hanging out and could visit them when we wished. We saw the iguanas a few times, and some beautiful birds. At night we loved to sit out in the outdoor living area and just chill. The hammock was the favorite.
There is a full bath upstairs and all so a well appointed "outhouse" outside with flush toilet, sink and shower.
There is everything you need to cook your own meals but we chose to eat out every night and check out the great restaurants in town and in Montezuma.
We all fell in love with the dogs Blackie, Looky and Poppy the cat. They were Melissa's pets who adopted and "protected" us during our stay.
If you're looking for a simple but comfortable place to get away from it all, look no further. Cabuya is filled with friendly people. Fiona was wonderful to work with and she made sure our stay was great. Questions sent to her by email were quickly answered.
Our only complaint was we had to leave too soon. We were just catching the Pura Vida"

"Our stay at Villa Kristina Maria was absolutely perfect. Our group of 7 included three generations including twin 15 month-old girls. Careful placement of furniture made the place baby friendly and safe. We all enjoyed the pool which is nothing short of spectacular with its waterfall and gorgeous plantings. We expected it to be the center of activity for our one week stay with many side attractions to explore. It turned out that we spent almost the whole time at the Villa and rarely left. The bird watching was the best right from the front porch. Watching the storms come trough over the ocean was great entertainment in itself. We did lose power a number of times which we found out is fairly normal. It was never off for very long but we had to plan ahead with candles at the ready. It just added to the adventure. Speaking of adventure the driveway down to the house could double as a ski jump and gave everyone a small thrill every time we drove it. Put it all together and it is a fantastic place to stay and just hang out in the jungle. There is lots to do in the area but you may find that the best attraction is the Villa itself."

"This was our third trip to Casa Amarilla and I always leave hoping there will be many more to come. This time we only stayed for a week. In the past we'd stayed for a month. I wish we could stay for a year! We absolutely love it here. Pavones is an amazing area that is still sort of a best kept secret. On the drive from SJO to Finca Estrella you pass through the bustling touristy towns of Jaco, Hermosa, and Manuel Antonio where you sometimes see more American's than Ticos. As you drive further south everything becomes a little calmer. The beaches are beautiful. We love Pilon because we are almost always the only people there and it is a short drive down the hill. My husband even made the journey by foot two years ago. I definitely recommend a 4WD vehicle for getting around. Each year that we've stayed we've seen monkeys, toucans, and macaws all from the deck. Nature is all around you here. You see from your bedroom windows what others pay for tour guides to see. And if you don't notice it on your own Freddy is always there to help point things out. I could go on and on about the incredible kindness of the people who work on Finca Estrella for pages and pages. Freddy is the most easy going and helpful person. My children talk about Grace all the time. We were happy to go on an excursion to a waterfall with her husband Enrique who is a phenomenal tour guide. The minute we get home from this place I start looking for flights back."

"If you're looking for privacy, with a stunning view, beautiful accommodations and easy access to nearby amenities, this is the place for you. My husband and I traveled to Lattice House for a week's stay with our teenage son and a friend of his. We arrived to a lovely meal prepared by Alexandra. We were also greeted by Ana, the uber competent property manager. Any requests for assistance on excursions or questions about the house were handled by her promptly and cheerfully.
The house and view were even better than pictured in the listing. The main living area has a very open feel, with no screens and because of the lovely light breezes, we were never once bothered by biting bugs. I was very concerned about this because I am usually the target of "no-seeum" bugs while on tropical vacations. No need to worry about that here.
The first day, we walked to the waterfall on the property.... and we all work out quite a bit...it still took some effort to get there and back but it was worth it.
We could not get enough of the pool with the truly amazing views. I also spent some quality time in the soak tub off the master bedroom at sunset, which I highly recommend. I made a sound recording of the waves crashing and the jungle noises so I can always remember the experience. It was so relaxing after a day of...relaxing.
I stay at a lot of very fine VRBO homes for vacation and have had great experiences. What put this one over the top for me was how we could have such privacy in a beautiful, popular location and have someone like Ana who knows all the ins and outs of the area to assist with anything you need.
Booking the property with Patricia, the owner was a breeze and we got our deposit back immediately upon our arrival home. Thanks for sharing your beautiful home, Patricia. You have outstanding taste in vacation homes!
I highly recommend this property to people who want to experience the unspoiled beauty of the Costa Rican coast. We will be back!"
