  • Wonderful vacation home!

"We spent a wonderful month at Villa Mountain Serenity and really could have spent an additional month if time had permitted. The property is very comfortable, in a great location, and was really perfect for us. Mornings always started early with coffee at poolside, binoculars in hand for bird watching, and listening to the lovely toucans who were ever-present in the mornings and early evenings. After many hot and humid day trips, we returned to the house to enjoy the mountain breezes, swim, prepare dinner on the grill, and pore over the home's numerous Costa Rican natural history books in search of something we'd seen that day. It really was the perfect retreat. Do not miss the Uvita Farmer's Market on Saturday. Although quite small, they offer wonderful tamales, breads, fruits and veggies either not available or far fresher than those found in the supermarkets, eggs, homemade plantain chips, spices, artisan cheeses, and hand crafts. Be sure to go early as they run out of the popular items. The only disappointing purchase was a bag of shrimp that turned out to be bland and mushy. The grocery stores in the area (Dominical and Uvita) are fine for meat, dairy, rustic baguettes, and most other items, albeit expensive, but the fresh produce is really lacking. San Isidro is a larger town and offers a better selection. They also have a farmer's market on Thursday(?) but we couldn't find it. The best fruit stands are found along the road from Dominical to San Isidro. Be warned, this road is quite dangerous with trucks drifting into the oncoming lane on turns. We saw several really horrible accidents and always proceeded very slowly around blind corners. Other food finds, Cafe Delicias (sp?) in Dominical sells croissants that are quite good, but cannot comment on the restaurant food as we didn't try it. Although we mainly cooked at home, our favorite restaurants were Villa Leonor in Ojochal (hearty food, beautiful beach and setting), Porque No?, Roadshack Deli, and Sabor Espanol. We found La Fogata Pizzeria disappointing when we ordered dishes other than pizza. I'd like to spend my last allowed characters in this review to thank Massi, Vilma, and all of the wonderful staff from Costa Ballena Management who made our stay at VMS so comfortable. Massi responded very quickly and professionally to all issues that arose and we only regret not getting the chance to meet him. We would return to VMS in a heartbeat, and hopefully will!"

  • Nie besser gefaulenzt! :)

  • This place is absolutely gorgeous.

"The infinity pool is even better than in the pictures, with generous lounge chairs, an excellent grill, large deck & dining table. The under cover kitchen/living area is well laid out with many places to enjoy the expansive view of the sea & sound of the surf. Palm trees & flowers abound & if relaxing in the hammock here this doesn’t feel like paradise, I don’t know what does. Even better, guests here are cared for with the most expertise I have ever encountered. Javier can fix you up with all the adventures you desire, at reasonable prices & to fit your schedule. He seems to know everyone. We opted for snorkeling at Isla Tortuga, zip-lining at Montezuma & ATV exploration. I recommend all three. He can get you fresh seafood off the boat, recommend & take you to restaurants in St. Teresa, & ensure that minor repairs get made almost immediately. He can set up a beautiful dinner for you cooked at your house, & we highly recommend this treat. His local knowledge & expertise turned our nice week into a fantastic one. If you are considering this rental, double check that he will be available during your visit. I gave this five stars because of how much I enjoyed my stay. We're a family of 6 adults & recognize that this beautiful place might not be for everyone. The bedrooms are simply furnished in a sparse beach style & the two smaller ones are in a separate house with no view. Steep drop offs make this unsuitable for those with small children. Internet access works for only two devices at time, so the wifi happy must take turns. The living area is all outdoors, & you sometimes share your space with various other life forms. A dishwasher would have helped that situation. The sea breezes do fail & the overhead fans aren’t always up to the job, especially during midday. A few simple room fans would have made a world of difference. Note that the this is one of many private homes on the grounds of a hotel that is not so friendly. We were prohibited from using their poorly kept & seldom used tennis courts, even when we offered to pay & book our use in advance. Guests in private homes also cannot use or rent the hammocks on the beach, visit the hotel’s lookout point, etc. Our response was to not eat or drink at the hotel either. I’ve stayed at more lavish places & been on trips with far more planned entertainment. Yet this gorgeous place, with its amply privacy, time to relax & its many local adventures, provided a vacation that left me relaxed, refreshed & smiling"

  • Best House Rental in Santa Teresa

"Where to start...what an amazing house! First of all the location of this house couldn't be any better. Very centrally located, 200 meters to the main beach road of Santa Teresa, and such a short walk to the beautiful pristine beaches. The house itself is just beautiful and very well maintained. 2 bedrooms, one with an amazing king size bed, with a big L couch that easily sleeps 2 people if needed. The second bedroom can be made up with a queen or two single beds, making it very flexible for all different groups of travelers. 2.5 bathrooms, very spacious living and dining room space, with an amazing infinity pool. With the intensely hot sun during the middle of the day, seeking shelter in the house to relax and cool down was just perfect and breezy being perched up on the hill surrounded by the Costa Rican wildlife! The two house cats made our stay even more fun as well! The house owner Siggi was simply awesome. She was very organized, and made every effort possible to make sure we were all taken care of properly. It was her organization that assured us our valuables and possessions were completely safe in her house (which I might add has a full on gate to keep any unwanted people out) Having a 4x4 is definitely necessary to reach the house, as I can imagine in the wet season the road gets washed out alot. One of the best parts was having coffee grinds and milk in the fridge for our first morning wake up - the finishing touch by Siggi to her wonderful house and hospitality. This place is a must visit and is as beautiful as described and shown through the pictures."
