  • Perfect for a jungle and beach getaway

"This house is exactly what we thought it would be when we chose it - unique, fun, open. The view and the location are perfect. Waking up to a picture perfect sunrise with the lively jungle sounds is a charming welcome to the day. My husband and 9 year old daughter and I stayed here for 10 days or so and found that everything on the property is carefully tended to by the caretakers. They will not invade your privacy as they are respectful about that but they also made sure they were available when we needed to ask questions. Some of our favorite activities: the tree climb with Andy at Everyday Adventures, zip-lining, hiking to the waterfall that is close to the house (you can swim into the little pool that it falls into) and kayaking with Aventuras Tropicales. Other than that, swimming and watching the animals could occupy a full day. There are quite a few beaches around; each have something to offer. The beach right in front of the house plus one right around the corner are fun in different ways. Other reviewers have said this, but I kind of ignored it, so I'll write it too - you do not need to bring many things. Keep it simple and you will be glad that you did. T-shirts, shorts, tank tops, flip-flops, water shoes and good shoes for hiking, plus a little bug spray and most definitely sun-screen. I brought a 3 oz container of Jungle Juice bug repellant and between the three of us, we only went through half of it as it was only necessary some nights. Darren, the owner, is about as nice as anyone we have met in a long time. We throughly enjoyed getting to know him, plus renting from someone like him on a property like this made the vacation even better."

"Mike and HRG really outdid themselves when they planned the perfect group vacation for us at Casa Tropical. From sport fishing, to tours, to even our own private chef. Everything was great and we will definitely be making this trip each year as a tradition. thanks so much Mike"

  • Pura Vida Jungle Retreat

"I am a seasoned traveler to Costa Rica and spend much of my time in vacation rentals. They are such a great value over hotels. I know all of Costa Rica and by far the best region is Uvita and Dominical for the best beaches and rivers to play in. This region still has the rawness of Untouched jungles. The house is just magnificent. It sits at a very good elevation about a 1,000 feet above the ocean. The rap around views are incredible! The forest canopy is above and below. I was able to enjoy all the wild life from the comfort of the pool deck. I am a photographer and kept my camera at the ready. White-Faced monkies were in the tree adjacent to the house one day. The bird life plentiful with many toucans singing in the morning and flying about. The house is an architectural digest cover house. The floor plan focuses on nature. From every room you feel a part of the outdoors. The photos of the house show it very well. What is missing is in those shots is the sounds, the breezes, the views of the passing mist clouds that pass through the mountain and above the rio. You could spend your entire trip right at the house and be extremely satisfied. The kitchen is very well supplied with everything you will need. Washer& dryer, iron and any other need is available. The wifi was a great feature. I could watch streaming tv using my tablet and stay in contact with family and friends. The house is 5 kilometers off the costal highway. I know of all the roads in the region and this mountain road is the best. You will need a 4x4 just like you would for any house that is remote in Costa Rica. The drive up is your own jungle exploration. You will marvel at the ocean views of the Whales Tail in Uvita. As you make the drive you will see primary forest with large 100 year old hard wood trees. The house is very private. Mercedes lives close by for any assistance with the house or for activites or just recommendation to beaches or restaurants. There are 5 star restaurants close by and then there are the road side ceviche stands. All great. The beaches range from Domincal with beach bars and surfing to private beaches at Domicalito and many more."

  • Great choice

"The house, neighborhood and location were fabulous! The house has great space for family gathering, is well equipped and beautifully maintained. It is a short distance to the pool (short walk). We loved the gated community for feeling safe and got to meet a few neighbors briefly. The beach is very clean and felt private most of the time....we were the only people there most days."
