"This place does everything a beach house should. It's steps to the sand, lots of space to lounge indoors and a beautiful pool and outdoor entertaining area if you want a break from the sand. It won't take you long until you're in the groove. Swim, eat, sleep... maybe a couple of sunset cervesas and a bonfire under the stars. The house is perfectly positioned in a quiet part of the beach, easy walking distance to local shops and restaurants. As keen surfers, we had perfect waves on our doorsteps and had little reason to wander far. We'll definitely be back!"

"My wife and I stayed here for 3 nights as part of our Costa Rica honeymoon. This is a beautiful open-air house with a gorgeous, well-kept property. The house is fully equipped with a kitchen, dining room, sound system, and hammock and couches for relaxing. The upstairs bedroom may be one of the loveliest places I have ever had the joy to wake up in. Wake up early, make some coffee, and go sit on the bench. Just do it. The family was very helpful and it was a joy to get to know them a little bit. Joselito showed us around the property and the differences between the kinds of oranges, lemons, and limes that grow as well as a really cool "miracle fruit" that makes everything on your palate quite sweet. Tato and Eddy are the family's labs that are very friendly and came to check on us a couple times a day and hang out with us. They are truly some sweet dogs and made us feel like we were home. We wish we stayed longer to explore more of the Osa but our trip was short and we really just wanted to relax. This is off the grid a bit and we enjoyed staying off of our electronics. We spent a good amount of time just listening to some of the Putumayo mixes already at the house and cooking food and making juices and smoothies. Elieth cooked us dinner our last night and it was the best meal of our trip. Seriously. Take any casado you have had the whole trip, and Elieth makes it better. More spice, more flavor, homemade tortillas, and leftovers! Jose grew the beans on their farm and they were excellent, even after a week of eating beans and rice. I would recommend this place for anyone and everyone that likes adventure, natural beauty, food, and fun. The bugs were pretty rough in the evening until about 8 or 9:00, but hey, they are pretty rough here in the middle of Missouri as well. The only thing we wished was that the beach in front of and next to the house were more conducive to swimming and laying out. The beach is quite rocky and during high-tide would be quite dangerous to swim in. Playa Tamales is the closest beach to swim and lay out and it is a short drive, though about a 45 min - 1 hour walk. Mark and Phoebe are very helpful and are available to answer any and all of your questions as well as make recommendations for food and adventures. We look forward to a future trip with a bigger group. Cheers, Andrew and Caitlin"

  • Loved our stay in this tranquil house surrounded by wildlife!

"We stayed at Casa de Carroll for a week, and could not think of a better place to be. It is secluded and surrounded by tons to see. We saw so much wildlife just from the house - troops of howler and capuchin monkeys (and once where they even crossed paths in the trees heading in opposite directions), olingo, coati, toucans, hummingbirds, chachalacas, vultures, frigatebirds, pelicans, lots of butterflies including the Blue Morphos...and much more. It was fantastic to just sit outside or lounge in the pool and spot so many beautiful things. The bedrooms all have an AC unit (which was important while we were there). It was very warm during the day, but we spent most of our time on excursions or at beaches and could also hop in the pool for a quick cool down. We also hit the pool every night to close out the day. The pool was our favorite feature of the house. The bathrooms were great, and there was plenty of room to spread out. The location of the house makes it easy to explore north and south. We visited beaches in both directions and found something beautiful and appealing about each one - Playa Uvita (Marino Ballena), Playa Ventanas (fun caves to explore at low tide or when the tide is coming in and great body surfing), Playa Hermosa (great sunset beach), Playa Dominical (great place to surf or watch surfers) and Playa Matapalo (beautiful secluded beach that stretches on forever). We were also able to do a few tours, including a guided day in Manuel Antonio, night mangrove tour north of Quepos, and a horseback ride to Nauyaca Falls. One afternoon we also went to the butterfly sanctuary between Quepos and Manuel Antonio. If you want to see the Blue Morphos up close I highly recommend this place. We had a couple meals catered in, and then either cooked on our own or ate out. The kitchen is well equipped. The restaurants that we liked the most were Mama y Papa in Ojochal, Langosta Feliz in Matapalo (order the Mariscos for two) and La Palapa Restaurant at Cuna del Angel Hotel (at the turnout for the dirt road to the house). All communication with the owners, including booking the rental, was very easy. The property manager (Kelley) was also helpful while we were in the house with recommendations for restaurants and activities, and assistance when we needed it. It is fantastic home and we are so grateful we got to spend a week in it! Pura Vida!!"

  • Playa Perfect

"Our merry group consisted of 3 adults of considerable age - if not maturity, 3 post-teen kids of a serious nature and my lovely girlfriend, mother of the kids. A real vacation had eluded most of us for awhile and we were ready. An excellent rental home made better by location. Hermosa Palms is close enough to the "charms" of Jaco and Herradura, but not so close that they are distracting. The house itself is well appointed. I cooked for our crew of seven and found the kitchen adequate. The beach and the community pool were excellent. Typically of Costa Rica (we all live here), Easter is the busiest beach time of the year - you might see 10 people in a 2 kilometer stretch. A lot fewer still if (like me) you beach walked at sunrise. The Hermosa Palms is owned/occupied by folks with every kind of gadget and vehicle imaginable. I was deeply pleased that neither engines or partying kept us up late at night."
