"It’s a cliché on review sites to say that photos don’t do a place justice, but it happens to be true in this case. I always thought those scenes of lakes and volcanoes you’d see painted on the sides of hippie vans in the ‘60s and ‘70s were romantic fantasies; now I realize that they were fairly accurate depictions. The house and grounds are amazing, and although it must have been sad to see part of the property disappear under the rising lake water, it’s great to have the water just a few steps away from the house. I already miss my twice-daily swims (one in the morning after sunning like a lizard on the dock, and another in the late afternoon after baking in the sauna.) The kayak was great, too, for exploring the shoreline in either direction, from Tzununa to San Juan. My wife and kids also used it to paddle over to morning yoga classes. Miguel and Mateo are really sweet guys, and were helpful in many ways, such as lighting the sauna and bringing warm tortillas in the morning. Tim was also very helpful and informative, and kept us supplied with freshly baked bread and freshly roasted coffee."

  • A Star in the Lake

"This property is absolutely gorgeous, a true wonder. It was built taking into account every detail, from functionality to good taste and it`s built over a huge rock. When you get to the house, the most impressive thing you notice is the beauty and majesty of Atitlan Lake and it´s volcanoes (from left to right: Tolimán 3158 m., Atitlán 3535 m. and San Pedro 3020 m.). The house is surrounded by the mountains, having the best toilette view ever. The hut tub heated with wood is perfect for relaxing with a good wine and enjoy the sights and sounds of nature. Eating in the terrace is a pleasure, no matter what time of the day. Cooking in the well equiped kitchen is inspiring, also a bunch of great cook books, and is very easy to pick up vegetables, spices and fruits from the garden. It is possible to have delivery from La Casa del Mundo and a couple of other restaurants as well. The bathroom with tub and shower has great view and very hot water. Ideal place for yoga and meditation. Not a place suitable for young kids, unless supervised at all times. Access to the house is quite difficult if you are not physically fit, especially hauling luggage. Although you can hire a bunch of people to help carrying the luggage for Q5 each. Private shuttles to and from all other towns in the lake are available booked with time. To sit on the balcony`s hammock reading a good book is an awesome experience. In conclution it is worth the climbing, and it is an amazing place to have a great time. Our family is looking forward to visit the house again."

  • Wonderful getaway with friends

"Lake Atitlan is one of the most beautiful places I've ever been, and this house made the stay even more amazing. A group of seven of grad students stayed in this lovely home for a week in March and had a fantastic time. The house is comfortable, clean and has all the amenities we needed. We cooked in the large kitchen, feasted and played games at the huge dining table and even toasted marshmallows in the mayan fireplace. Most of our days were spent lounging on the dock taking in the gorgeous sites and swimming in the lake, which is clear, clean and lovely. The hammock on the patio near the flowering trees is another treat. The staff on hand at the house were thoughtful and efficient, and the landlord was wonderful - she gave us all sorts of ideas for how to entertain ourselves and made our vacation perfectly relaxing. I would go back in a heartbeat."

  • Perfect house to get away from City Life

"We spent 3 nights in this property and it was wonderful. The location was beautiful right in front of a lake with unobstructed view of the water and 2 volcanoes beyond. The night sky is blanketed with all the bright stars and moon. Fireflies are flying around at night in the front yard. There were 4 adults in our group and the house was just perfect size. Francesca was the main person we emailed and spoke to on the phone to set up the rental. We basically emailed her numerous times to ask numerous questions on all the topics we had a concern about and she answered them all promptly. Rene met us at the Pana van shuttle stop and placed us on a private boat to directly take us to the house. There is a private dock right in front of the house so you do not need to pull all your belongings with you from the short but tricky walk along the wooden walk way to Paxanax (public dock) boat stop. Once we arrived at the house's private dock Pascual was there to help up unload our belongings to the house and gave us a tour of the property. Pascual also purchased us a huge stack of wood to use on the sauna which we used two nights in a row. During our stay there were two long term renters on the small cottages behind us but we never heard any noise from them at all. We did meet one of the long term renters and she was amazingly friendly. We spent a lot of our time just relaxing on the balcony/patio laying on the hammock and patio chairs. We also spent a lot of our mornings just sitting on the private dock drinking locally grown and roasted Guatemalan coffee that we purchased from the restaurant in the village. That coffee was delicious! Thank you for the coffee maker and filter! :) We cooked most of our dinners in the Kitchen. We didn't do any excursions while we were there because we mainly wanted to just rest, relax and catch up with old friends. The bathroom is definitely a new experience for all of us because it is open to the outdoors. We found it hilarious that if someone is in the bathroom using it and the rest of us are in the balcony/patio that we could continue our conversation with the person in the bathroom included. The views from the upstairs loft bedroom are amazing to wake up to as well as the big day bed in the living room. If you plan to stay here make sure you purchase you food and supplies in Pana because they are the only one with a big grocery store. However, Pascual can do the grocery shopping for you. We will definitely visit again!!! We LOVED it."
