"Wonderful home. It was extraordinary to be woken up at dawn by a thousand singing birds just in time to watch the mist lift from the lake, to see the lights of the little towns across the lake begin to turn off, and to watch sun come up. Peaceful, quiet retreat. Loved it."

"While I strive to be altruistic, there is still a selfish part of me. I almost am wary of writing a review because I hope to return back to Casa Paloma many many times and fear that everyone will realize what a magic place this is and there won't be any openings. Alas, we can not live our lives ruled by fear or scarcity, so i sit here to tell you the good word. This house is magic. Guatemala is magic. The town of San Marcos is magic. By magic, I mean that things that don't seem possible, become possible in a delightful and enchanting way. For example, I enjoyed staying in the house so much, walking in to town, chatting with the angelic gardeners Miguel and Mateo and the charming boat rides to explore other parts of the lake so much that when I called to change my flight to stay longer, the airline agent said, "You know what? I like you, I'm not going to charge you a change fee!" See....MAGIC! You can easily see from the pictures that it is a beautiful home, but you cannot see the lightning bugs that buzz around after sunset, the way the sky is pink some mornings just before dawn or feel the powerful healing energy of the sacred land around this home, town and country. Joyce's house and visiting Antigua is one of my most favorite trips I have been on and I look forward to going back again and again and trust that there will be enough time at the house for all of us. Blessings on your adventures and know that if you go to this house, you will receive extra blessings!"

Beautiful, secluded location to enjoy Lake Atitlan
"We spent 5 days at Casa Wenche and would definitely return. The grounds are breathtaking, with impressive landscaping and endless views of the lake and volcanoes. This property is away from the hustle and traffic of Panajachel but easily accessible by boat. The house is well appointed and will be best enjoyed by the physically fit who are able to navigate the many stairs that connect the home to the village and dock. You also need to be able to board and disembark small boats easily. Casa Wenche is quiet and peaceful, with access to expansive grounds and a nice pool. The caretaker, Ramos, was always available (he lives on the property) and attentive. We also met the welcoming owner, Erik, as he was in town at the main house while we were there. Short boat rides will connect guests with other Atitlan lakeside villages worthy of exploration. A scenic trail connects to a few nearby villages as well. Bring your own groceries from Panajachel
and pack light for minimum hardship in traveling by boat. There are some small restaurants within walking distance, too. Casa Wenche is a great value and a rejuvenating place to be. We recommend staying for several days to get the most out of it. Our only wishes for an even better stay would be for a stand-up fan in case of hot days and some screens on the interior windows to help keep the bugs out."

"Lake Atitlan is one of the most beautiful places I've ever been, and this house made the stay even more amazing. A group of seven of grad students stayed in this lovely home for a week in March and had a fantastic time. The house is comfortable, clean and has all the amenities we needed. We cooked in the large kitchen, feasted and played games at the huge dining table and even toasted marshmallows in the mayan fireplace. Most of our days were spent lounging on the dock taking in the gorgeous sites and swimming in the lake, which is clear, clean and lovely. The hammock on the patio near the flowering trees is another treat. The staff on hand at the house were thoughtful and efficient, and the landlord was wonderful - she gave us all sorts of ideas for how to entertain ourselves and made our vacation perfectly relaxing. I would go back in a heartbeat."
