  • Great trip, family with kids

"Joyce, Just wanted to send an overdue note of thanks. My family of 6 (4 kids age range 6-10), accompanied by in-laws who hand carried their own pizza dough across the border, had an amazing time at your place on the lake. It was everything we'd hoped for and more, a genuine treat. Perhaps more than anything else, we were struck by the friendliness and warmth of the people we met, and just how relatively intact the indigenous cultures are. My 6 year old had broken her leg less than 2 weeks before our trip, and you probably aren't surprised to hear how helpful the locals were, whether it was hoisting her into a boat or just striking up conversation in the towns (no doubt we'd have missed a lot without my wife's spanish). Tim was great and I'm still grinding his coffee every morning back home. Miguel was also great, and brought his son to play soccer with ours. And of course those dogs, especially Pedro, he is one funny dog and the perfect companion when our 6 yr old had to miss things because of her broken leg. I could go on and on, but it hopefully suffices to say that the style, warmth and beautiful layout of your place was fully appreciated by our group! Thank you again, and we hope to visit again if the stars align in the future. Chicago, IL"

  • Piece of Paradise

"My friends and I just spent another lovely week at Rico's house. This is the second time we've stayed there, and we thoroughly enjoyed it. Rico, as always, was extremely attentive and helpful, as was his caretaker, Carlos. The house is cozy and well equipped and the gardens are lush – it is a little piece of paradise. We hope to be returning soon!"

  • Heaven on Earth

"i went their on my own, and wanted to have a calm 11 days vacation looking at a nice view. I had that as The view was magnificent and i woke up everyday looking at the lake's beauty and hearing the musical bird sounds. just sitting at the dock and reading was a pleasure. and the owner Alicia made it so easy and safe to be there; a list was provided with all the numbers that i could need including a spanish school, massage, yoga teacher and some fun activities (kayaking/hiking .. etc) so i got my relaxation, my "me time" but i also had super fun with kayaking and hiking a volcano. add to that meeting amazing people you can only think they came out of a Paulo Coelho novel. i can go on and on about the lake. p.s. i also learned how to live in peace with the spiders; they are harmless in there"

  • Cozy Nest in the Heart of Pana

"This property is one of six in a small Hotel, "Milagros del Lago," located on the Main Street of Panajachel some three blocks from the waterfront. It is an efficiency with all the necessary amenities: kitchen, dining table, living area with divider for bedroom with king bed, and plenty of closet space. The bathroom is roomy and the water is hot. Tasteful decor and furniture give the space a homey feel. The balcony, second floor, overlooks the street, and is a comfortable perch for watching merchants and tourists interact. The windows are double glazed and seal out most street noise, allowing for a restful sleep. Cable TV provides abundant English Language channels and the Wifi is strong and consistent. There is a pleasant rooftop area and a well stocked paperback library. Tastefully selected art adorns the hotel walls? Views of the lake and volcanoes are complimentary. The proprietor has made a genuine effort to be "Green'" using organic soap and recycling. There is daily maid service from Monday until Friday. The maid does laundry for a nominal fee. One caveat: like much of Guatemala, the water in Pana is not potable, but five gallon jugs of drinking water are provided. Should I again plan a visit to Panajachel, Patti's petit hotel will be my first consideration!"
