  • YOU WILL CHERISH THE MEMORIES

"Firstly, I'm not a review writer. Never wrote one before, probably won't ever write one again. But we were so blown away by our amazing four nights at Casa Tzampoc last week that I couldn't help myself. From our first contact with Barry & Nannette, it felt more like getting back in touch with old friends rather than making travel plans. They had limitless patience for our myriad questions. Even before making our booking, they went out of their way to call us and make sure all of our questions were addressed. THE HOUSE: Effortlessly walks that fine line between the pure simplicity we were searching for and grand luxury. Easily accommodated all nine of us (we're an extended family with kids). The outdoor fireplace was awesome, pool was perfect, large showers were heaven. Even the small touches were appreciated - the towels are extra plush. House is easy to get to, i.e. no boat needed (unlike some other properties we considered), and for small grocery shopping Santa Catarina is a quick walk. And the house is IMMACULATE - yup, they sweep under the beds. WiFi & TV worked consistently, kitchen appliances are modern. THE STAFF: Nicholas (caretaker) checked in on us but was never intrusive. Teresa and Pascuala were our cooks and made great breakfasts to order. And they were lovely to be around. THE AREA: Go! You will love it as much as we did. It's magical. San Pedro for the nightlife, San Marcos for a relaxing afternoon. And please stay at Casa Tzampoc...it will feel like your second home and you will cherish the memories you create there."

  • Beautiful and unique!

"Pamakanya is amazing. What a festive, cool, unique and lovely home!!! We went with our 3 kids ages 4,7 and 9 and my 70 year old parents. We all fell in love. It's all so cool, the views from the upper house are incredible. I recommend at least one sunrise session from the deck (you can't actually see it but the sounds and morning light are captivating). Having our own dock, kayaks and houses was a delight. Katie and her whole crew were incredibly responsive, kind and accommodating from start to finish. 4 days wasn't enough and we'd LOVE to return if we can!"

  • Peaceful, Serene, Spectacular Views

"What more can I say that has not been said by the past guest? This place is simply amazing. The view itself will make your jaw drop. There was times when I woke up and it felt like you woke up in another part of history because the volcano and the serene waters make you feel like you are in a period where civilization did not exist. Pierre is a great host and I am amazed what his imagination has been able to do with the place, it truly is an escape and if you are looking for some relaxation this is the place to be. When you stay in Pasaj-cap you do not only rent the apartment which is simple, comfortable, with windows that make it seem like you're sleeping outside, but also all the wonderful green-space and the wonderful pier (great for taking a dip in the lake). Do not hesitate to book this location, you will not regret it."

  • Perfect house to get away from City Life

"We spent 3 nights in this property and it was wonderful. The location was beautiful right in front of a lake with unobstructed view of the water and 2 volcanoes beyond. The night sky is blanketed with all the bright stars and moon. Fireflies are flying around at night in the front yard. There were 4 adults in our group and the house was just perfect size. Francesca was the main person we emailed and spoke to on the phone to set up the rental. We basically emailed her numerous times to ask numerous questions on all the topics we had a concern about and she answered them all promptly. Rene met us at the Pana van shuttle stop and placed us on a private boat to directly take us to the house. There is a private dock right in front of the house so you do not need to pull all your belongings with you from the short but tricky walk along the wooden walk way to Paxanax (public dock) boat stop. Once we arrived at the house's private dock Pascual was there to help up unload our belongings to the house and gave us a tour of the property. Pascual also purchased us a huge stack of wood to use on the sauna which we used two nights in a row. During our stay there were two long term renters on the small cottages behind us but we never heard any noise from them at all. We did meet one of the long term renters and she was amazingly friendly. We spent a lot of our time just relaxing on the balcony/patio laying on the hammock and patio chairs. We also spent a lot of our mornings just sitting on the private dock drinking locally grown and roasted Guatemalan coffee that we purchased from the restaurant in the village. That coffee was delicious! Thank you for the coffee maker and filter! :) We cooked most of our dinners in the Kitchen. We didn't do any excursions while we were there because we mainly wanted to just rest, relax and catch up with old friends. The bathroom is definitely a new experience for all of us because it is open to the outdoors. We found it hilarious that if someone is in the bathroom using it and the rest of us are in the balcony/patio that we could continue our conversation with the person in the bathroom included. The views from the upstairs loft bedroom are amazing to wake up to as well as the big day bed in the living room. If you plan to stay here make sure you purchase you food and supplies in Pana because they are the only one with a big grocery store. However, Pascual can do the grocery shopping for you. We will definitely visit again!!! We LOVED it."

Lake Atitlan Travel Tips

Things to See and Do near Lake Atitlan Vacation Rentals

Lake Atitlan is recognized as being one of the deepest lakes in Central America, although its actual depth is not accurately known. It is estimated to be more than 340 meters deep. The lake is believed to have been formed when waters filled a volcanic caldera following an eruption some 84,000 years ago. The result is a beautiful emerald green lake that lies snugly between the remaining three volcanic peaks. Guided climbs of the peaks can be arranged but will require a good level of fitness. Some people rent a bicycle and cycle part of the way and then climb the rest of the distance to the summits. There is also a trail which circumnavigates the lake but the route is not very well marked. If you are keen for an exploratory walk on the trail, first check with the locals before setting out. Another way to explore the lake shore is to hire a boat and hop from one village to the next. You can also hire Jet Skis or kayak with which to explore the lake.

There is a large agricultural community around the lake shore and often there are markets where you can pick up some delicious fresh produce. Some of the fruits and vegetables grown in the area include strawberries, tomatoes, cucumbers, avocados, onions beans and squash. Eating out at any of the local restaurants is a delight. Spicy foods and interesting dishes make up the menus. The only town known to have some nightlife is Panajachel. Here, there are several bars and restaurants where the younger crowds congregate.
