The climate in Honduras varies in the different regions. While it is generally tropical, the weather is cooler and more temperate in the higher mountain regions. Generally, you can wear lightweight cotton clothing all year long. You will need a good rain jacket especially if you are traveling in the wet season. Make sure that you also have one or two warmer items of clothing if you plan to visit the highlands. Typically, the wet season is from May to October. Tropical storms have been known to blow across from the Caribbean, bringing heavy rain and strong winds. The north coast is one of the most popular tourist regions; however, temperatures can get very hot and visitors are advised to use plenty of sunscreen and wear hats. The most popular travel season is during the drier months which are from November through April.

Tegusigalpa has a beautiful historic city center. Colonial architecture can be seen in a number of the ancient buildings. Just outside of the city on one of the hilltops is a relatively new monument known as the Christ of the Picacho. From the monument site, you can enjoy great views out over the city. Another city that has well-preserved colonial architecture is the former capital of Honduras, the city of Comayaguan. Here you can roam the cobbled streets, visit the town plazas and see the quaint white-washed houses. Each year for Easter, there is a week-long celebration that is full of cultural festivities. If you have an interest in the ancient Mayan culture, one place you must visit is Copan. The Copan Ruins Archeological Park houses some impressive structures which give testament to the advancement of the Mayan culture. There is an Acropolis, the Court of the Heiroglyphic Stairway, and the Great Plaza.

There are several national parks and wildlife reserves where you can hike nature trails or join a guided overland tour. Canopy tours through the rainforest are quite popular. There are also various boat trips or kayaking excursions that can be enjoyed down the country's major rivers. There are also caves to go exploring. The beaches in Honduras are legendary and the Bay Islands are a tropical paradise. The coral reefs off the Bay Islands offer excellent scuba diving and snorkeling.

Getting to Honduras Beach Houses

Honduras is located in Central America just to the north of Nicaragua and east of Guatemala. The capital city Tegucigalpa is located in the southern region of the country. The nation's main airport is located just three miles to the southeast of Tegucigalpa. There are daily scheduled flights that operate to Miami in the U.S. For travelers staying in other parts of North America and Europe, your best flight options will be to get a connection via Miami. The airport is served by buses and taxis which can take you in to the city center. If you will be visiting the coastal regions, you can get a connecting domestic flight as this is the most convenient way to travel around the country. Roatan has a cruise ship port and many visitors arrive in the country here.
