  • Excellent place for a great Roatan vacation

"We spend 8 nights at DG Coral Vista in July 2014, and the experience was great. The house is in the perfect location; close enough to the beach (5 minutes walk) and places to eat and far enough for the noise. The ocean view from the balcony is breathtaking, making totally worth it climbing the 107 steps to get to the house (very easy to climb). The house is very comfortable; fully equipped kitchen, very comfortable beds, and 4 AC that keep it cool during the hot summer days. A highly recommended place for a family vacation, and I will totally choose DG Coral Vista instead of renting a room in the crowded and busy resorts in West Bay. It worked really well for our family and we have there everything we need to have a fantastic vacation. The owners and property manager were in permanent contact with us before and during our stay, always willing to help and assist us on whatever we need. Gabriela was fantastic in providing us with all the information we needed (arrival, transportation, good places to eat, other logistics, etc.) and in making sure that we have everything we needed to enjoy our time at DG Coral Vista. Definitely, I highly recommended place to stay if you decide to spend your vacations at West Bay, Roatan."

  • Best property on West Bay Beach!

"We just returned from a week at St. Mac's villa and it definitely was one of our favorite vacation spots. Last year we were at Infinity Bay and walked by St. Mac's everyday. I made it my goal to book this place and did so as soon as we got home. We were not disappointed, you just walk out the door onto your own sand, beach chairs, beach!!! No more resort, waking up at 7am to save a chaise by the pool. This was one of the best decisions we made! You never have to leave the West Bay, walk out the door, go diving, snorkeling, swimming! Watch the most beautiful sunsets every night! We stayed in the beachfront, 1 bedroom lower level unit. Very Spacious updated, this unit had every amenity, we were very happy!! Thank you for sharing your home!!"

  • Great Location!

"My family of four spent 8 nights at La Casa Gaviota Azul. Before we arrived, Jami sent us a map, directions and some very helpful links and suggestions. She met us upon arrival and we really appreciated her letting us check-in early as our youngest wasn't feeling well. The accommodations were very clean, comfortable, and updated with a seaside decor. We had all the comforts of home, nothing was missing. We loved being right on the beach in a quiet area, away from the more hectic (and hot!) West End/West Bay. The trade winds were strong while we were there, so we weren't able to snorkel near the house, but the dive boats anchored right outside daily, so I'm sure it must be fabulous. I was impressed with the local care takers who picked up trash along the beach, raked, and rinsed the salt and sand off the patio and windows. They were very friendly and even dropped off a conch shell for our girls one morning. The sheltered lagoon area at Parrot Tree Plantation has cabana beds, seating areas, and canoes for rent. The pool area was nice too! It's a great place to relax if you don't feel like heading out to explore the island, and it's close to the house. If you are here, as others have suggested, be sure to check out Cal's Cantina. The food was wonderful and priced right. Zip lining into Gumbalimba Park and the dolphin encounter at Anthony's Key were also big hits with the kids. There are other recommendations in the "house manual" and several guide books for you to browse through. I would definitely recommend staying here - you won't be disappointed!"

  • Fine house, great location

"Sue Ruttman, known throughout Utila as Ms. Sue, owns a cluster of three houses in the Blue Bayou area a mile or so west of town. Round House, the biggest of the three, sits in the middle of a nice beach. Two identical houses, Oyster Lagoon House 1 and 2, sit just across a narrow lane with their backs against a mangrove and their namesake lagoon. Ms. Sue lives in Oyster Lagoon House 1. We rented Oyster Lagoon House 2. We loved the location. We rented bicycles at $2/day from Angel, the friendly guy who takes care of Ms. Sue’s property. The bikes were not in the best of shape, but they served just fine for our nearly daily trips to town and various sightseeing excursions. After nightfall we walked with flashlights in hand because of the poor condition of the roads. The house is in excellent condition. It has a large front room/kitchen/dining area and two identical bedrooms each with their own toilet and shower. The house works for a small family or two couples. There are porches along the front and back. They offer a fine roost for morning coffee and reading. The caretaker, Angel, is around the property nearly every day. He was extremely helpful and even brought us fresh fish he had caught one evening. He handles all your needs, like ordering beer to be delivered and bottled water as needed. We were given a phone when we arrived that we could use to call him any time. The house also comes with several kayaks. We spent a wonderful day kayaking across the islands through a mangrove forest. The beach across the road is less than 50 meters from a great area of reef. How many places in the world can you snorkel in world-class waters just out your front door? Walking 2 minutes further west you find yourself at a dock with a bar. We snorkeled there almost every day. Nearby is the water taxi pick up for Neptune Beach, another fine snorkeling site, this one equipped with a fine restaurant. We highly recommend the Oyster Lagoon House and the Round House."

Honduras Travel Tips

Seasons to Visit Honduras Vacation Rentals

The climate in Honduras varies in the different regions. While it is generally tropical, the weather is cooler and more temperate in the higher mountain regions. Generally, you can wear lightweight cotton clothing all year long. You will need a good rain jacket especially if you are traveling in the wet season. Make sure that you also have one or two warmer items of clothing if you plan to visit the highlands. Typically, the wet season is from May to October. Tropical storms have been known to blow across from the Caribbean, bringing heavy rain and strong winds. The north coast is one of the most popular tourist regions; however, temperatures can get very hot and visitors are advised to use plenty of sunscreen and wear hats. The most popular travel season is during the drier months which are from November through April.

Activities and Attractions near Honduras Villas

Tegusigalpa has a beautiful historic city center. Colonial architecture can be seen in a number of the ancient buildings. Just outside of the city on one of the hilltops is a relatively new monument known as the Christ of the Picacho. From the monument site, you can enjoy great views out over the city. Another city that has well-preserved colonial architecture is the former capital of Honduras, the city of Comayaguan. Here you can roam the cobbled streets, visit the town plazas and see the quaint white-washed houses. Each year for Easter, there is a week-long celebration that is full of cultural festivities. If you have an interest in the ancient Mayan culture, one place you must visit is Copan. The Copan Ruins Archeological Park houses some impressive structures which give testament to the advancement of the Mayan culture. There is an Acropolis, the Court of the Heiroglyphic Stairway, and the Great Plaza.

There are several national parks and wildlife reserves where you can hike nature trails or join a guided overland tour. Canopy tours through the rainforest are quite popular. There are also various boat trips or kayaking excursions that can be enjoyed down the country's major rivers. There are also caves to go exploring. The beaches in Honduras are legendary and the Bay Islands are a tropical paradise. The coral reefs off the Bay Islands offer excellent scuba diving and snorkeling.

Getting to Honduras Beach Houses

Honduras is located in Central America just to the north of Nicaragua and east of Guatemala. The capital city Tegucigalpa is located in the southern region of the country. The nation's main airport is located just three miles to the southeast of Tegucigalpa. There are daily scheduled flights that operate to Miami in the U.S. For travelers staying in other parts of North America and Europe, your best flight options will be to get a connection via Miami. The airport is served by buses and taxis which can take you in to the city center. If you will be visiting the coastal regions, you can get a connecting domestic flight as this is the most convenient way to travel around the country. Roatan has a cruise ship port and many visitors arrive in the country here.
