  • Great Location for a Stay in Roatan

"We travelled with 3 more couples, the house was perfect for the week, the location is very good since it is close to West Bay and West End and there are a lot of options.. the island is very beautiful and the house was just perfect for us."

  • Nearly as we expected

"As for the positives, the other reviewers were spot on. The lack of other tourists and thus the peace and quiet was amazing. That, coupled with still being close to the necessities, makes the location nearly unbeatable. Just know that you will be removed from most other signs of humanity, and I personally would under no circumstance try and drive back to the house at night, especially after a couple of libations. You'll find out why after the first time you head down the dirt road and across the wooden road through the mangrove. The only downside, and I really wrestled with docking a star for this, is that the bug situation is no joke. Besides scuba diving (which was great), the other thing I was really looking forward to was sitting out on the deck at night, having a drink, and enjoying the tranquility. The sun set at about 6pm, and shortly after that the insects would appear. My wife was pretty squeamish with the various bugs flying around, and my Kindle screen was a magnet for all sorts of interesting (but annoying) creatures. By the end of our stay we unfortunately found ourselves inside more than we would have liked. We also had to keep the door to the kitchen closed because of the sheer number of insects that would have taken up residence with it open. Perhaps screening-in the deck, like the house two doors down, would be a solution. We gladly would have given up some of the view in exchange for some relief from the bugs. Maybe the insects won't bother you, but it was a little disappointing for us. As for the sand flies, the little red welts left by them don't itch, but they're not a good look for most people. The local bug spray in the blue bottle seemed to work, but it's also oil-based so you might keep the bugs away but you'll be asking for a serious sunburn. We went with the deet-based alternatives, and you're going to want to use it early and often. Two other tips: - I'm not sure how anyone could sleep on the bottom floors with the windows open and not get eaten alive by the bugs. We immediately opened the windows when we arrived, and within a couple of hours we had mosquitos and other guests in both downstairs bedrooms, despite the screen on the windows. Perhaps this isn't an issue on the top floor bedroom, but it certainly was downstairs. - The Trooper is no longer a rental option, but you'll need 4WD. Work with Liz ahead of time and she'll find you an alternative."

  • Absolute Paradise!

"Our stay at Ocho Palmas was perfect! We were a group of 3 families and everyone, including the kids, fit comfortably in their bedrooms. Ocho Palmas is very well located and quite convenient with many great restaurants and beaches nearby. If we had any questions or wanted to explore the island the property manager, Brad, was so friendly and always willing to help anytime we had questions. He really made you feel right at home! He is very knowledgeable about the area and the island and he made us feel at ease during our stay. The housekeepers, too, were impressive and really kept Ocho Palmas immaculate during our stay. If you do not want to leave the house you really do not have to, they have everything there that you could possibly need and want. The kitchen is beautiful, very spacious and fully equipped with the nicest appliances, utensils, etc. you could imagine! Truly everything you need to cook a great meal is right there for you! All of the four bedrooms and four bathrooms were spacious and decorated beautifully! Each of the four guest rooms were also well appointed and allowed each couple some privacy. The view from the deck is breathtaking! We never got tired of watching the cruise ships sail by and listening to the waves crashing on the rocks. The pool was very private, perfect for all of us and was a great way to start and finish our day! Ocho Palmas is surrounded by lush tropical landscaping. An unspoiled, quiet shore was close by as was a restaurant and bar. We enjoyed taking the kids to this beach in the morning and watching the fish swim by us. I cannot say enough about how the accommodations made us feel like we were in a magical place! From the well equipped kitchen, to the pool, to the furnishings, to the sound system, to the palapa hut with swings on the veranda, to every detail that the owners provided to make sure our vacation would be perfect and that we would remember this event forever. Staying here is like staying at your own 5 star resort, only with complete privacy! We highly recommend Ocho Palmas as your choice for the best place you could stay in Roatan. We will be back again and again! Thank you so much for an amazing experience and for memories that we will cherish forever!"

  • Wonderful Retreat in Paradise

"This casita is amazing...fully equipped, comfortable, nestled in lush tropical gardens surrounded by nature. The wonderful hostess has thought of everything from storage containers, laundry detergent, and notepads and pens to first aid supplies. We felt so welcome and comfortable; never wanted to leave! Great location for exploring the quiet east end of Roatan; close enough to the "tourist" parts of the island to make them accessible but not close enough to disturb a quiet vacation. Restaurants and shops within 10 minutes; car is essential and 4 wd recommended. The washer/dryer is great to have, as is the television with endless channels if, like my husband, you can't live without baseball. Great host and hostess; can't recommend this place highly enough!"
