  • Would defiinitely go back, but some pointers ...

"First off, I would definitely go back. The house is spacious and well maintained in general. The amenities are great, again in general. Snorkelling off the beach in front is fabulous. And the gentleman who looks after the house is absolutely wonderful. However, the internet access was slow and at the very least needs to have a password put on it. I refused to use it for business due to that insecurity. The AC unit in one of the bedrooms didn't work at first and it wasn't all the effective when it do work. It made a difference, but it never got cooler than "quite warm" even with all doors and windows to the bedrooms closed and the AC on all night when we slept. The golf cart has a few tricks you need to be aware of to keep it going, and the headlight didn't work the entire time we were there. So overall I'd say the place is great but it deserves to have the level of care stepped up a notch. Having said that, remember that I would definitely go back. One solid tip - you really need to rent the golf cart. It's a good 20 minute walk to town depending on what part you want to access. And a final tip - if you snorkel off the beach in front, angle toward the right for easier access to deeper water. If you go straight out there are lots of shallows to get through and it's tough to avoid the coral. Enjoy!"

  • Beautiful Sunrise Views over Utila town!

"The Round House served as a great base for our Utila dive vacation. This was our fourth time on Utila, and for this trip we brought two friends so we needed a larger place than we usually rent. The Round House fit the bill, and as a bonus offered great, easily accessible snorkeling right out front. The "master bedroom" included two beds and an en suite bathroom. Our friends slept in this room and it worked well for them, although beware unless the breeze changes direction from it's norm you'll have to run the A/C at night in this room. It's simply on the wrong side of the house to get a breeze when winds are blowing in the usual direction. However the A/C was cold and cooled the room down quickly. We slept in the "smaller" room, but it was still quite large and included a dresser and a closet that spanned the length of one wall so there was ample room to keep a week's worth of clothing, swimsuits, etc. It received enough of an ocean breeze that we ended up closing the windows and turning on the A/C just because there was a fine spray from the water. The kitchen was very well stocked with cooking utensils, pots, pans, plates, cups, etc. - one of the four of us cooked breakfast every morning and lunch every afternoon very easily. The Blue Bayou area is quite nice, home to several rental properties, and is one of the few places on Utila with snorkeling from the beach and a shore dive. You can walk right out from the beach in front of the house and see all sorts of cool things - eagle rays frequent this area and at night we saw a couple of octopi. I would say though you have a little bit less privacy than some of the other areas of the island and you also really are better served if you rent wheels of some sort (bikes, golf cart, scooter, etc) if you plan on diving with a shop in town every day. We always dive with Alton's, which happens to be the dive shop farthest away, but if you dive with Coral View or Laguna Beach you basically just have to walk across the street. Two of our party were able to rent tanks from Coral View for a shore dive off the house. You could also walk to Gunter's EcoMarine dive shop since it's not to far on the other side of the public beach, it would probably be around 20 minutes."

  • feels like a second home

"we stayed with another befriended couple for 2 weeks in the gardens in two of the upperfloor appartments. the appartments are pretty nice, clean and comfortable furnished. the well equiped kitchen offers you to cook by yourself, what we did a few times. we spend a lot of time on the veranda, reading, having dinner or playing games. there's always a pleasant breeze up there. the appartments are away from the hustle and bustle but it's just a 5 minute walk to the city-center or 1 minute with the tuk tuk. perfect, if you want to party one day and relax the other. the owners jo & tony helped us a lot with organizing the travelling over night from san pedro sula to utila and back. they have taken care of everything and left nothing to be desired. the only disadvantage are the mosquitoes and sandflys all over the island, except the kays. we recommend to use "off" or something when leaving the appartment. the appartments itselfs are protected with mosquito mesh infront of the windows. also the AC in the bedrooms protect you from the little biests, they don't like it cold. all in one, a wonderful vacation in a wonderful accommodation!"

  • Excellent vacation home....

"This cute house on Utila was a pleasure to stay at while on Utila. Utila is a small Island with no cars and main tourist attraction is diving. Due to this having a house with a pool was amazing as some of us were not divers. We soon realized we were also one of very few places with a pool on the Island. The house is mid-range accomodation but great for Utila. It is only the main level of the house. There were no lounge chairs and the hammock was not available as seen. In the kitchen it needed upgraded cutting utensils. All in all though a great lil spot and nothing missing that ruined our trip by any means. Utila is a very low key, backpacker type Island so this property in comparison to most other accomodations on Utila is high end. JJ and his wife who manage the property were also amazing. They were easily accessible and eager to help us with any questions or problems (which were minimal). I would definately stay at this property again if I returned to Utila. :)"
