  • It felt like home..

"ony and Jo don't just rent their property, the make you feel like you home. A couple so hospitable and warm! They picked us up from the ferry and showed us the island of Utila. The next day we had a wonderful trip to the Cayes with them and other tenants from the Gardens,it was like a family getaway, hot dogs on a deserted island is something unforgettable.Tony and Jo also arranged a Kayak trip with Steve through the mangroves and out into Turtle Bay,and helped us with advise about anything we asked! Oh yeah, the property? :) Booking our stay we got the quickest response with the most detailed answers and advice,so we knew everything about the Gardens AND Utila island way before we arrived,it was very helpful. The property is very clean and very well maintained( new microwave and stove, nice dishes, furniture, decor, purified water, and a real garden!) compared to other buildings on the island,if you are looking for apartment - long or short term -it's the best choice. It's located off the main street, which is a 10-15 minute walk,or less, - or a dollar taxi drive ( Tony and Jo were so kind to let us use one of their cell phones, we could call a taxi any time and it would arrive to the Gardens in 5 minutes) There are properties right on the main street, where all the action is,sounds attractive, but really, they didn't look nearly as clean and new as the Gardens, with its perfectly maintained territory, with all the appliances you need for cooking or just chilling, and a great price as well,so we were more than happy with our choice.Central America can be a very different experience compared to US but we did feel at home throughout our entire stay in Utila. Thank you Tony and Jo, we'll see you next year!"

  • Living onto beach

"Initially we booked Blue Bayou Beach House for 5 nights. We were attracted by the location right next to the coral reefs and of course an affordable price. And we weren't disappointed. The house has a beautiful porch from where you can hum right into the corals. Just outside the house is a great wall with the most amazing corals. Lots of coral fishes. The house is a bit rustic, however charming. There is though one nuisance: Sand flies! You don't notice them, before it's too late. You don't see them, you don't feel, when they bite, but you will seen see the impact of them on your body. So be advised to take need precautions (repellents, baby oil,...). Before making the booking, we had a very positive correspondence with the owners, Deanna and Ed. Very responsive and very helpful. We felt confident throughout the engagement with Deanna and Ed. On the island we were welcomed by Mike, who is kind of a janitor, and he made sure we were put on a taxi (or rather a tuc-tuc) to take us to the beach house. Mike also made sure, everything was ok during our stay. Thanks a lot to Mike!! We enjoyed our stay at Blue Bayou Beach House very much, and we actually extended with it another 2 nights. There are lots of things to do on Utila. Definitely a place to return to...."

  • Beautiful Sunrise Views over Utila town!

"The Round House served as a great base for our Utila dive vacation. This was our fourth time on Utila, and for this trip we brought two friends so we needed a larger place than we usually rent. The Round House fit the bill, and as a bonus offered great, easily accessible snorkeling right out front. The "master bedroom" included two beds and an en suite bathroom. Our friends slept in this room and it worked well for them, although beware unless the breeze changes direction from it's norm you'll have to run the A/C at night in this room. It's simply on the wrong side of the house to get a breeze when winds are blowing in the usual direction. However the A/C was cold and cooled the room down quickly. We slept in the "smaller" room, but it was still quite large and included a dresser and a closet that spanned the length of one wall so there was ample room to keep a week's worth of clothing, swimsuits, etc. It received enough of an ocean breeze that we ended up closing the windows and turning on the A/C just because there was a fine spray from the water. The kitchen was very well stocked with cooking utensils, pots, pans, plates, cups, etc. - one of the four of us cooked breakfast every morning and lunch every afternoon very easily. The Blue Bayou area is quite nice, home to several rental properties, and is one of the few places on Utila with snorkeling from the beach and a shore dive. You can walk right out from the beach in front of the house and see all sorts of cool things - eagle rays frequent this area and at night we saw a couple of octopi. I would say though you have a little bit less privacy than some of the other areas of the island and you also really are better served if you rent wheels of some sort (bikes, golf cart, scooter, etc) if you plan on diving with a shop in town every day. We always dive with Alton's, which happens to be the dive shop farthest away, but if you dive with Coral View or Laguna Beach you basically just have to walk across the street. Two of our party were able to rent tanks from Coral View for a shore dive off the house. You could also walk to Gunter's EcoMarine dive shop since it's not to far on the other side of the public beach, it would probably be around 20 minutes."
