  • Sweet little hideaway in Punta Blanca

"This little spot was perfect for the two of us. The property owners mom stays next door and she was awesome in recommending things to do and introducing us to the expats in the area. The view is gorgeous and the price is right. The dogs kept us entertained and were fun to have around. We will be back!"

  • Peace and quiet on a private stretch of sand

"If you are looking for North American luxury with room service and the works, you'll have to go elsewhere and spend three times as much. If you want to sleep right in the middle of the dance floor with DJ throbbing, head to Infinity Bay. However, if you want peace and quiet, unfettered views of the blue green sea from your private patio and your private beach, these villas will be home. The condo is separated from West Bay proper by the rocking outcrop of Las Rocas dive resort. It has its own a stretch of private beach, with the reef a few hundred yards offshore providing decent snorkeling and calm waters. There's a bit more eel grass here than in the heavily trafficked West Bay, but the solitude was well worth it. Being apart from West Bay was a blessing. Just a few minutes walking brought us right to the action, but we could easily escape the parties and throngs of holiday revelers. The unit we rented (Bayview 3b) was not super luxurious, but was perfectly comfortable and well appointed. We never once turned on the satellite TV, but it was an option. The kitchen had literally everything one might need (bakeware, fry pans, pots, blender, to-go mugs, coffee maker, lots of filtered potable water, etc). We self-catered nearly every meal, though many restaurants sit within easy walking distance. Our unit was on the ground floor with 3 steps going down to the beach. We spent nearly all of our waking hours either in the sand and sea, or on the porch. The porch is semi-gated, has a handful of lounge chairs, along with a large glass table and 6 chairs for the table. The porch was very well shaded in the afternoons, and midday, when sun was strong, we simply moved the lounge chairs under the trees (just in front of the condo, in the sand) to get shade. We highly recommend this condo to any and all travelers. It seemed especially nice for families (we brought our a 9-month old baby and his 75 year old grandma)."

  • Nearly as we expected

"As for the positives, the other reviewers were spot on. The lack of other tourists and thus the peace and quiet was amazing. That, coupled with still being close to the necessities, makes the location nearly unbeatable. Just know that you will be removed from most other signs of humanity, and I personally would under no circumstance try and drive back to the house at night, especially after a couple of libations. You'll find out why after the first time you head down the dirt road and across the wooden road through the mangrove. The only downside, and I really wrestled with docking a star for this, is that the bug situation is no joke. Besides scuba diving (which was great), the other thing I was really looking forward to was sitting out on the deck at night, having a drink, and enjoying the tranquility. The sun set at about 6pm, and shortly after that the insects would appear. My wife was pretty squeamish with the various bugs flying around, and my Kindle screen was a magnet for all sorts of interesting (but annoying) creatures. By the end of our stay we unfortunately found ourselves inside more than we would have liked. We also had to keep the door to the kitchen closed because of the sheer number of insects that would have taken up residence with it open. Perhaps screening-in the deck, like the house two doors down, would be a solution. We gladly would have given up some of the view in exchange for some relief from the bugs. Maybe the insects won't bother you, but it was a little disappointing for us. As for the sand flies, the little red welts left by them don't itch, but they're not a good look for most people. The local bug spray in the blue bottle seemed to work, but it's also oil-based so you might keep the bugs away but you'll be asking for a serious sunburn. We went with the deet-based alternatives, and you're going to want to use it early and often. Two other tips: - I'm not sure how anyone could sleep on the bottom floors with the windows open and not get eaten alive by the bugs. We immediately opened the windows when we arrived, and within a couple of hours we had mosquitos and other guests in both downstairs bedrooms, despite the screen on the windows. Perhaps this isn't an issue on the top floor bedroom, but it certainly was downstairs. - The Trooper is no longer a rental option, but you'll need 4WD. Work with Liz ahead of time and she'll find you an alternative."

  • A must stay in paradise!

"We just returned from a week in beautiful Roatan! This house is off the beaten path, which isn't often mentioned in reviews. You will find a private beach, as well as a bar, all within walking distance! The caretaker Pichi was beyond awesome! This guy will do anything he can to help - day or night - it was like having our own personal concierge! From taking us out snorkeling on his boat, taking us grocery shopping, serving as a tour guide and transportation specialist, Pichi is truly a top-notch caretaker! One thing to keep in mind is that you are in fact in the jungle and yes, there will be bugs! We found that Sawyer bug repellents are the best out there! Rocky and Rambo, the two resident perros, are more than welcoming of all guests! We never had to turn on the a/c units, but the layout of the house is very open and airy and it kept the house quite cool at night. We recommend buying a couple bags of ice to put in the freezer for chilled drinks, but buying bottled water wasn't necessary as Pichi kept plenty of 5 gallon water jugs available for the water dispenser. While we were in Roatan, Pichi acquired a van and he offers his transportation services at a rate lower than the other companies on the island with a driver you know and trust! We rented a scooter and a motorcycle for the week from Captain Van's on West End, and we highly recommend doing the same! In our opinion, it is the best way to see the island and we didn't find any place that the scooter couldn't go! There is no better feeling than falling asleep and waking up to the sound of the ocean and in Roatan, there is no better place to experience that than this property!"
