  • Wonderful Honeymoon

"My husband and I had an amazing time staying at Al & Sandra's Spooky Channel Guest House. Everything you see in this listing is accurate and it is above and beyond what we were anticipating. We were greeted at the airport by Al who took us to the very nice grocery store right away. During the course of our 2 week stay, Al & Sandra offered numerous times to take us to the grocery store, West End, West Bay, etc. whenever they went anywhere and it was always appreciated when we carpooled. The house is nice, cozy, and very clean. Its well stocked with condiments, towels, linens, etc. When we werent spending our time at the beach in West End or West Bay, we absolutely LOVED swimming wtih the dolphins at Anthony Keys Resort, and talk to Al about deep sea fishing if that is your thing- he hooked us up with 2 memorable fishing excursions and we had a blast! Al & Sandra recommened great restaurants- you have to have the caribbean jerk chicken at Blue Parrot! We also loved utilizing the fabulous dock right out front- which was fantastic to snorkel from- lots of good fish, coral, and sea creatures to see! Whether is was lounging around on the beach or dock, or playing hours of rummy on the nice little screened in porch with a Salva Vida Beer (our favorite), Al & Sandra made our stay fantastic, and when I got sick and had to stay 3 more days, they were very helpful and understanding. They are great people to have a beer with and they are very knowledgable abotu the island. You will have a blast and I hope we can return someday to see Roatan, and Al & Sandra. Pack light and bring bug spray for the terrible sand flies is the best advice I can give you."

  • A delightful Vacation

"We spent a wonderful vacation in Roatan, at Belvedere and Casanueva. The occasion was a special family reunion: three generations and family members coming from different places. We found this property to be the ideal solution for us. The property managers were always prompt and friendly in offering guidance and suggestions throughout our stay. They made us feel very welcome and comfortable. Personnel at the villas was very friendly and willing to help. The two villas are absolutely stunning, clean and comfortable providing privacy and relaxation ; the views fantastic, the location just perfect: only a few minutes walk to the best beach . The outdoor area with its lush, tropical garden surrounding the inviting panoramic pool, has an incredible sea view over the coastline ; there are plenty of comfortable loungers, two gazebos with armchairs, tables and chairs. Within walking distance, there are good restaurants and shops. It was just so lovely to sleep with windows open and enjoy the heavenly Caribbean breeze blowing. The family enjoyed BBQing outside on the outdoor kitchen by the pool as the sun set and also having breakfast in one of the several decks or gazebos. We had a fantastic time."

Bay Islands Travel Tips

The Bay Islands are a number of Caribbean Islands to the east of the Central American country of Honduras. Lying in the beautiful blue waters of the Caribbean Sea, this unspoiled tropical paradise offers a laid-back vacation spot with plenty of optional activities. The best known of the Bay Islands is Roatan which remains largely uncommercialized, although it has excellent restaurants and diving. Other islands include Utila, Guanaja and Cayos Cochinos.

Bay Islands Vacation Rentals Offer the Perfect Home Away From Home

Those looking to enjoy an island-style retreat will love a spacious vacation rental. Typically painted in pastel island colors and set in tropical gardens amidst bougainvilla, palms and exotic plants, many vacation homes have private swimming pools. Imagine waking to the sound of the ocean and having breakfast on the verandah while planning the day’s activities. With your own private vacation home, you can take an afternoon siesta, watch the sunset with a drink on the terrace and generally do as you please. The spacious bedrooms, bathrooms and cool living areas make it the ideal choice for romantic breaks and honeymoons, and for families who want their own space.

Things to do on the Bay Islands of Honduras

The activities offered on Bay Islands are varied and extensive. Water-based activities include kayaking in the calm waters or sailing, fishing, snorkeling and diving. The Bay Islands are in one of the most extensive reef systems in the world with excellent visibility. See many types of soft and hard corals, sponges, beautifully colored fish and marine life. Relax on the sandy beach or go searching for exotic seashells. Horseback riding along the water’s edge is a relaxing way to experience these idyllic shores, or head inland to explore some of the jungle areas. Take an eco-tour with a guide to see the natural wildlife of Bay Islands or take a dolphin-watching trip. Glass bottom boats are great ways to experience the diverse marine life on the reef. You can even island-hop or go cave exploring.

Bay Islands Travel Options

The Bay Islands of Honduras are very convenient and easy to get to, being just a two-hour flight from Miami. Sol Air connects Miami with San Pedro Sula on the mainland twice daily and there are direct connections to the islands of Guanaja, Roatan and Utila.

Taca airlines operate direct flights from both Miami and Houston to Roatan and offer connecting flights from Los Angeles, New Orleans and San Francisco. Once on the islands, it is easy to walk, cycle or use a local taxi or boat service to get around.

Places to Visit from Bay Islands Resorts

Roatan is a picturesque and unspoiled island with a hilly interior covered with lush greenery. The main beaches are West Bay beach rentals with its white coral sand beach, Camp Bay and Paya Bay. Roatan is known as a world-class diving destination and the reefs, the second largest after the Great Barrier Reef, are protected as a national treasure. The Cayman’s Trench sees the reef suddenly drop to a depth of thousands of meters and the occasional whale shark may be seen. Closer to shore, beginners can dive in the protected lagoon waters which have no strong currents. At the end of the day, head for the dockside bars and restaurants, and enjoy a cocktail while viewing the spectacular sunset. Roatan also has a small museum and botanical garden.

Mainland Honduras makes a great day out. Arrange a visit to the ancient Mayan city of Copán. The impressive ruins depict the amazingly advanced culture of the Mayans, centuries ago. River rafting is also a fun activity and a great way to navigate the wildlife of the tropical rainforest.

Weather and Climate in Honduras

The weather on the Bay Islands is different to that on mainland Honduras. The islands enjoy tropical sunny days with heavy rain showers at times. The wettest months are September, October, January and February. The islands’ high season is from February to April when visitors escape from the cold winter temperatures further north. The average water temperature is a balmy 29 C which is 84 F.
