"This is the second time we've rented Ocho Palmas and it was just as awesome and relaxing this time as it was the first.
Ruth and Brad do a great job managing this property. They're very communicative throughout the entire rental process and check-in is a breeze. Their office is close by and there's always someone available if you need something during your stay.
I can't think of much to say that hasn't been said already. The previous reviews, including mine, speak for themselves and the pictures of this house really don't do it justice. You have to see it to believe it. I heard from several people that it's one of the nicest homes on the island. You will not be disappointed."

"This could easily have been a five star rating. We were looking for a top floor unit with roof top pool. There were none available on VRBO for the two weeks we needed. Barbara was very helpful and found us one that wasn't listed. Unfortunately, when we got there we saw that it was not as well maintained as the other units. We were hit with a bad odor, there was still garbage under the sink and because of it the unit was filled with hundreds of tiny flies (gnats or fruit flies). Housekeeping came up and dumped the garbage but the flies were still everywhere. The next morning the kitchen was sprayed and a can of Hotspot was left for us. After a few days of spraying we were able to get the insects down to nothing.
The villa is very nicely furnished and the beds are very comfortable. The kitchen is well equipped. We did have difficulty with the WIFI and the signal for the living rooms TV. Victor, the on site manager, was awesome. He was able to hook us up to the Villa router and fix the TV signal connection. It took a few days to work out all the kinks. Also we had two short power outages. No big deal but the router needs to be reset after each. Since it's in the laundry room which is looked, once again we had to get Victor to come to our rescue.
Also the water pressure was very low. The roof top pool was disappointing, also neglected
We loved the location. Very private but a short walk to West Bay Beach. It is up and down a rather steep hill, so the walk is not for the faint at heart.
There is still construction going on. If you are sensitive to noise, you may want to check on the status of the work going on. We didn't mind the work.
The beach area was very nice but it is not really swimmable if you are planning to bring kids. The lava rock, seagrass and coral are very shallow. However, the snorkeling is amazing. If you carefully follow the path out to deeper water you can easily get to the reef. It is spectacular.
The pool area is lovely and we met several warm, welcoming folks there.
We loved going to JavaVine, the Hangover Hut, Vintage Pearl, Argentina Grill, Celeste and BoHo.
We did a lot of Scuba diving with West Bay Divers. They are outstanding.
We did get bitten up pretty bad, but learned that Nurse Andre's 2 in one bug repellant is awesome. Also if you put a heavy layer of coconut oil on your feet, ankles and lower legs, the sand flees get stuck and cannot bite.
All in all we had a wonderful trip and would go back again."

"We just returned from our trip to Roatan and our stay at the Pink Orchid. We were very pleased with our trip and the ease of dealing with the owners, on site staff and local residents. The owners were very informative and easy to contact prior to our trip and the house is exactly (or better) as described on the website. Location is fantastic with an easy walk either way down the beach to the West End community or West Bay Beach for shopping, dining and entertainment. We went with our two teenage children and another couple and the house was perfect for 6 people. Snorkeling and floating right from the dock was great and the kayak trips to the reef for snorkeling (a very short paddle) were off the hook! We saw sea turtles, a moray eel and several barracuda as well as many beautiful reef fish. The local contacts were really good and we had a local chef come prepare and island feast at the Pink Orchid one evening. We caught tuna on a fishing trip right outside the reef in front of the house and went zip lining one day through the jungle very close to the house. Water taxis were readily available right from the dock and it never took more than a few minutes to flag one down. All in all a fantastic trip for our family. I also think that we should report that the ladies on our trip walked by themselves during the day to both the West End community and West Bay and never felt uncomfortable or threatened during these ventures. It seemed much safer than some of the other locations in Central America / Caribbean region we researched. We did heed the owners advice and stay off the beaches after dark."

"Dave and Trish are wonderful host. They took care of all our needs. The pineapple house is the perfect beach front home to get away from it all. The reef right outside the door was outstanding for snorkeling. The valet diving service was a plus, just walk out on your own private pier and a short boat ride to the best diving in the world. We can't wait to return.
Thanks to anyone that made Utila a unforgettable experience."
