"My wife and I spent 9 nights to celebrate our 60th birthdays. I really can't add much more to the existing reviews except you can believe them. A great place for a self-sufficient couple. We didn't rent a car because as we knew from our visit over 20 years ago that the roads aren't great out in this area. Franklin and Junior picked us up at the airport in Pauls 'Beast' pickup and took us by a modernized grocery store to provision up. We shopped on the fly, but it worked out fine. We were able to buy lobster from a fisherman who stopped at the dock. We also managed to score some lobster and conch on the reefs nearby while snorkeling. All the toys are there for water play, but thankfully no 'waverunner'. Dories are available as water taxis to take you to nearby restaurants on the water if you want a lunch out. We enjoyed BJ's and Pokeys. The canal (mangrove tunnel) is pretty cool if you can catch a ride through there at high tide, and a quick ride over to Jonesville, or Oak Ridge for limited food/drink provisions (we didn't plan the rum supply correctly). We were lucky enough to catch a ride by ocean to Fantasy Island toward French Harbor for a lunch and feeding of the lion. Met some happy people over there. Thankfully, we met Paul on the last couple of days we were there and enjoyed spending time with him, a most gracious host. Franklin managed our maintenance issues handsomely considering the 'island time' effect. Junior was a joy and hooked us up with a lot of local knowledge. We felt secure because of his omnipresence on the property. Diving on the Mesoamerican Reef is the best you will find within 20 hours airline flight. This was only 3 hours from Atlanta......."

  • Wonderful!

"Our family of eight had a wonderful vacation at Fuego Del Mar. We felt like the rich and famous! The home is incredible. The pool is beyond words. We thought it was much larger in person than we anticipated from the pictures. There were several floats available. The small outside fridge held plenty of beverages. The bathroom off of the deck was convenient. We loved having the kayaks to use. Everyday we went snorkeling on the reef - about a 10 minute kayak trip. Beautiful reefs so close. The house itself is amazing. The dining room is awesome. We all thought our beds were comfortable. The decor of the house is cool. There is a true attention to detail throughout the home. We used Rosa to cook for us every evening. They were the best meals ever. We all highly recommend the shrimp masala. One day she grilled lobster for us that we bought from a man off the dock. Very fresh! The gift shop was super. Mostly pottery type items made by locals and the very talented owner, Nikki! We were pleased to help the local economy and have a couple of quality items as momentos. The staff was so attentive - candles lit every night, help bringing up groceries from the car, setting the kayaks in the water, and the list goes on. Everything about this trip was memorable. We thank the staff and Phil for making this a perfect family vacation. The only caveat is the location. You will be in walking distance of nothing. A couple of times our 20 something kids got a bit antsy and had the driver take them into town. Most of us were totally content to take in the view and lounge by the pool for the entire week. Highly recommend Fuego del Mar. Great home and great service from beginning to end!"

  • This one's "just right!"

"This was our second stay at Infinity Bay, and first at this wonderful condo! A spacious layout in a perfect location with views of the pool and ocean...not too far from the beach, not too close to the bar / music for it to be too loud. Did we mention the "comfy king size bed", 2 balconies, and 2 baths both with showers! We enjoyed the full kitchen as an option to dining out everyday. The dryer was great to, well, dry things out and warm them up before our next snorkel in the aquarium just a few steps to the beach! Dana, the owner, was informative, relaxed, a pleasure to deal with, and made "the arrangements" effortless. All in all..just perfect! We look forward to our next visit to Roatan / Infinity Bay and will definitely be staying at VRBO rental #237222"

  • Far Tortuga Excellent

"We just returned from a 12 day stay at Far Tortuga. We have stayed many places in the Caribbean and this house ranks at the top of our list. Right from the arrival when we were met at the airport by Kevin, Claire and Desiree made us feel welcomed. We rented a 4x4 truck and Claire coordinated everything so that it was waiting upon arrival. Desiree was great showing us the local grocery store and then taking us to the house. The pictures do not this place justice, it is beautiful. It is exactly as stated and has a great vibe to it. Desiree gave great recommendations for dining out and some activities. The kitchen is well stocked with all that you would need. The weather was great and snorkeling is fantastic right out in front and off the dock. It was hard for us to leave the house to explore because it is so relaxing. It is off the beaten path and this makes for quiet stay. Thanks for sharing this house."

Honduras Travel Tips

Seasons to Visit Honduras Vacation Rentals

The climate in Honduras varies in the different regions. While it is generally tropical, the weather is cooler and more temperate in the higher mountain regions. Generally, you can wear lightweight cotton clothing all year long. You will need a good rain jacket especially if you are traveling in the wet season. Make sure that you also have one or two warmer items of clothing if you plan to visit the highlands. Typically, the wet season is from May to October. Tropical storms have been known to blow across from the Caribbean, bringing heavy rain and strong winds. The north coast is one of the most popular tourist regions; however, temperatures can get very hot and visitors are advised to use plenty of sunscreen and wear hats. The most popular travel season is during the drier months which are from November through April.

Activities and Attractions near Honduras Villas

Tegusigalpa has a beautiful historic city center. Colonial architecture can be seen in a number of the ancient buildings. Just outside of the city on one of the hilltops is a relatively new monument known as the Christ of the Picacho. From the monument site, you can enjoy great views out over the city. Another city that has well-preserved colonial architecture is the former capital of Honduras, the city of Comayaguan. Here you can roam the cobbled streets, visit the town plazas and see the quaint white-washed houses. Each year for Easter, there is a week-long celebration that is full of cultural festivities. If you have an interest in the ancient Mayan culture, one place you must visit is Copan. The Copan Ruins Archeological Park houses some impressive structures which give testament to the advancement of the Mayan culture. There is an Acropolis, the Court of the Heiroglyphic Stairway, and the Great Plaza.

There are several national parks and wildlife reserves where you can hike nature trails or join a guided overland tour. Canopy tours through the rainforest are quite popular. There are also various boat trips or kayaking excursions that can be enjoyed down the country's major rivers. There are also caves to go exploring. The beaches in Honduras are legendary and the Bay Islands are a tropical paradise. The coral reefs off the Bay Islands offer excellent scuba diving and snorkeling.

Getting to Honduras Beach Houses

Honduras is located in Central America just to the north of Nicaragua and east of Guatemala. The capital city Tegucigalpa is located in the southern region of the country. The nation's main airport is located just three miles to the southeast of Tegucigalpa. There are daily scheduled flights that operate to Miami in the U.S. For travelers staying in other parts of North America and Europe, your best flight options will be to get a connection via Miami. The airport is served by buses and taxis which can take you in to the city center. If you will be visiting the coastal regions, you can get a connecting domestic flight as this is the most convenient way to travel around the country. Roatan has a cruise ship port and many visitors arrive in the country here.
