  • The perfect place in Utila

"The Round House exceeded my expectations for a vacation rental in Utila. We arrived on 12/21/14 stayed for 6 nights and could have easily stayed 10. The house is well equiped, clean, and in my opinion perfectly situated from town. The snorkeling out the front door is some of the best the island has to offer. The ability to swim and snorkel without making any arrangements is worth a lot by itself. The house is located about a 15 minute walk or 5 minute bike ride from town. Probably not as ideally situated if you really want to party, but for a family (as we were with two teenagers) or someone that enjoys some privacy it is perfect. Angel the caretaker is a total gem and will help with whatever you request. Utila is super safe, low key, and has a great island vibe. The large covered porch, big kitchen, beer and soda waiting in the fridge, high ceilings, comfortable beds and short stones throw to the water makes this the perfect island getaway."

  • Villa Dorado

"We stayed for two months, I wish we hadn't. The house is beautiful. Amazing views, lush forest, fresh fruits off the trees all great. We were told there was a generator in case of long power outages, it was not operational and no effort made to make it so. Also in case of power outages, the gas stove in the apartment was to be for our use, it was also out of gas and not filled for sometime. The power was out for 12 hours one time and 10 another. The housekeeper is wonderful. The beach property that was to be included with our own private beach was not available, an alternate plan was available but if we wanted to spend our days at Campamento we would have stayed at Campamento. The house roof leaks in many places, it needs some maintenance. We enjoyed walking up and down the hill to town, it is quite a hike up! Would we stay there again, probably not. When paying tip top rates, we expected tip top accomodations."

  • This one's "just right!"

"This was our second stay at Infinity Bay, and first at this wonderful condo! A spacious layout in a perfect location with views of the pool and ocean...not too far from the beach, not too close to the bar / music for it to be too loud. Did we mention the "comfy king size bed", 2 balconies, and 2 baths both with showers! We enjoyed the full kitchen as an option to dining out everyday. The dryer was great to, well, dry things out and warm them up before our next snorkel in the aquarium just a few steps to the beach! Dana, the owner, was informative, relaxed, a pleasure to deal with, and made "the arrangements" effortless. All in all..just perfect! We look forward to our next visit to Roatan / Infinity Bay and will definitely be staying at VRBO rental #237222"

  • We were SOOO HAPPY AT ORCHID BREEZE

"My wife and I, and three adult children could not have enjoyed our brief vacation more. Eric and Karen are very kind and helpful, incredible resources for information when needed. We opted to rent a Mazda pickup truck from Avis at the airport which worked very well for multiple trips to airport to pick up kids. Otherwise we just enjoyed the house and the beach just short stroll down the hill. We loved walking the beach to West End. Karen directed us to Denisse at Clearwater Adventures. What a joy! How convenient to have a snorkeling-Scuba-adventuring outfitter right out our backdoor. The house is very comfortable. Sorry to admit, but we appreciated the efficient internet connections. We grilled the fresh fish and shrimp that "Jerry Lewis" delivered to the house. Ample dinning area for our family, always plenty of room on the deck. Seems like I should come up with some sort of negative just so people wont think I am on the payroll, but no, when we go back to Roatan, Orchid Breeze is where we will be. I will say that if you are going to rent a pickup be sure you are comfortable driving a stickshift stopping and starting on steep terrain. I really enjoyed driving in and out of Orchid Beach but often thought about friends who don't know how to drive a stick and what a challenge it would have been for them. Our heartfelt thanks to Karen and Eric, and a big hug for Denisse at Clearwater."

Honduras Travel Tips

Seasons to Visit Honduras Vacation Rentals

The climate in Honduras varies in the different regions. While it is generally tropical, the weather is cooler and more temperate in the higher mountain regions. Generally, you can wear lightweight cotton clothing all year long. You will need a good rain jacket especially if you are traveling in the wet season. Make sure that you also have one or two warmer items of clothing if you plan to visit the highlands. Typically, the wet season is from May to October. Tropical storms have been known to blow across from the Caribbean, bringing heavy rain and strong winds. The north coast is one of the most popular tourist regions; however, temperatures can get very hot and visitors are advised to use plenty of sunscreen and wear hats. The most popular travel season is during the drier months which are from November through April.

Tegusigalpa has a beautiful historic city center. Colonial architecture can be seen in a number of the ancient buildings. Just outside of the city on one of the hilltops is a relatively new monument known as the Christ of the Picacho. From the monument site, you can enjoy great views out over the city. Another city that has well-preserved colonial architecture is the former capital of Honduras, the city of Comayaguan. Here you can roam the cobbled streets, visit the town plazas and see the quaint white-washed houses. Each year for Easter, there is a week-long celebration that is full of cultural festivities. If you have an interest in the ancient Mayan culture, one place you must visit is Copan. The Copan Ruins Archeological Park houses some impressive structures which give testament to the advancement of the Mayan culture. There is an Acropolis, the Court of the Heiroglyphic Stairway, and the Great Plaza.

There are several national parks and wildlife reserves where you can hike nature trails or join a guided overland tour. Canopy tours through the rainforest are quite popular. There are also various boat trips or kayaking excursions that can be enjoyed down the country's major rivers. There are also caves to go exploring. The beaches in Honduras are legendary and the Bay Islands are a tropical paradise. The coral reefs off the Bay Islands offer excellent scuba diving and snorkeling.

Getting to Honduras Beach Houses

Honduras is located in Central America just to the north of Nicaragua and east of Guatemala. The capital city Tegucigalpa is located in the southern region of the country. The nation's main airport is located just three miles to the southeast of Tegucigalpa. There are daily scheduled flights that operate to Miami in the U.S. For travelers staying in other parts of North America and Europe, your best flight options will be to get a connection via Miami. The airport is served by buses and taxis which can take you in to the city center. If you will be visiting the coastal regions, you can get a connecting domestic flight as this is the most convenient way to travel around the country. Roatan has a cruise ship port and many visitors arrive in the country here.
