  • Our New Favorite Home on Roatan

"This is truly one of those homes that you don't want to leave for the duration of your vacation. If you do venture out, it's within walking distance (not for the faint of heart) of West Bay or a two minute car ride, yet still feels very secluded and away from it all. I easily made our reservation through Ruth, via email, and was greeted by Sam and Brad when we arrived at their office to pick up the keys. Sam went to the house with us and showed us where everything was and explained how all the gadgets work, along with loaning us a local cell phone. This house is not short on entertainment. There are TV/DVD combos in every bedroom and a big screen television in the living room, with a small selection of DVDs. There's a speaker on the back patio to hook your Ipod/phone up to so you can have music while you're on the deck or in the pool. The stainless steel kitchen appliances are top notch and there's an additional stand alone ice maker that sits on the countertop. This home more than enough dishes, cookware, utensils, silverware and drinking glasses of all varieties. There were only two of us in the house and we chose the back bedroom, nearest the pool, because of the amazing view of the ocean. The bed was extremely comfortable and had high quality bedding. We always had adequate water pressure and plenty of hot water for showers in the adjoining bathroom. My favorite part of the house was the view from the deck. I never got tired of hearing the waves crashing on the rocks, just a few feet from the infinity pool. The constant breeze was a bonus and helped to keep the bugs away. Speaking of the pool, it's very clean, a nice temperature and is surrounded by plenty of chairs, loungers and nice plush beach towels. This is our fourth time renting on Roatan and I think we've finally found the house that we'll definitely rent again."

  • Great Location in West Bay

"Casa De Paradise was very well described. It is in an excellent location in West Bay. One of the best rental kitchens that I have even been in, with good knives even! I cook a lot on our vacations and I was lacking nothing. The front deck overlooking the beach was amazing. My husband was in the hammock every day. The fruit truck came every few days and we were able to walk down to the docks early in the morning and buy fish from the locals. We used Mayan Divers as suggested from the owners and had a great diving experience that was VERY convenient. We would walk up the beach every day and check out nightly dinner specials. Don't miss the $15 2 tail lobster dinner at Beachers two doors down. Unless you want to go cruising the island, you don't need a car. If you do, we walked down to "The Mall" and rented from Yony for $50/day. We stocked up at the grocery store on the ride in front the airport. This was a very easy, convenient and relaxing vacation for us at this location. The only reason I did not give a 5 star rating was because of the music from the resort next door. The people renting the other unit behind us did not hear it like we did, but we had to listen to the club music next door. If we would have been with a group of friends and drinking and chatting until 11pm, we would have thought nothing of it. However, we were ready for bed at 9p and our neighbors were not. Nice thing is that is stopped at 11pm on the dot each night. I did contact the owner regarding this and she responded very promptly and was concerned. However, each hotel and property is allowed to enjoy their music until 11pm. Like I said, I am sure that there are many vacationers that this would not even be an issue for. Tips or enjoying West Bay-1. Bring lots of small bills. You pay more when it is charged on your credit card and we tended to overpay for things because we did not have smaller bills. 2. Load a suitcase with some non-perishable food. They have the same things the US has in their stores, but so much more expensive. 3. Get it in your mind that you WILL get a massage! $20 for a 40 minute massage on the beach should not be passed up and get at least one or two while you are there! Casa de Paradise was a great place to be!"

Honduras Travel Tips

Seasons to Visit Honduras Vacation Rentals

The climate in Honduras varies in the different regions. While it is generally tropical, the weather is cooler and more temperate in the higher mountain regions. Generally, you can wear lightweight cotton clothing all year long. You will need a good rain jacket especially if you are traveling in the wet season. Make sure that you also have one or two warmer items of clothing if you plan to visit the highlands. Typically, the wet season is from May to October. Tropical storms have been known to blow across from the Caribbean, bringing heavy rain and strong winds. The north coast is one of the most popular tourist regions; however, temperatures can get very hot and visitors are advised to use plenty of sunscreen and wear hats. The most popular travel season is during the drier months which are from November through April.

Tegusigalpa has a beautiful historic city center. Colonial architecture can be seen in a number of the ancient buildings. Just outside of the city on one of the hilltops is a relatively new monument known as the Christ of the Picacho. From the monument site, you can enjoy great views out over the city. Another city that has well-preserved colonial architecture is the former capital of Honduras, the city of Comayaguan. Here you can roam the cobbled streets, visit the town plazas and see the quaint white-washed houses. Each year for Easter, there is a week-long celebration that is full of cultural festivities. If you have an interest in the ancient Mayan culture, one place you must visit is Copan. The Copan Ruins Archeological Park houses some impressive structures which give testament to the advancement of the Mayan culture. There is an Acropolis, the Court of the Heiroglyphic Stairway, and the Great Plaza.

There are several national parks and wildlife reserves where you can hike nature trails or join a guided overland tour. Canopy tours through the rainforest are quite popular. There are also various boat trips or kayaking excursions that can be enjoyed down the country's major rivers. There are also caves to go exploring. The beaches in Honduras are legendary and the Bay Islands are a tropical paradise. The coral reefs off the Bay Islands offer excellent scuba diving and snorkeling.

Getting to Honduras Beach Houses

Honduras is located in Central America just to the north of Nicaragua and east of Guatemala. The capital city Tegucigalpa is located in the southern region of the country. The nation's main airport is located just three miles to the southeast of Tegucigalpa. There are daily scheduled flights that operate to Miami in the U.S. For travelers staying in other parts of North America and Europe, your best flight options will be to get a connection via Miami. The airport is served by buses and taxis which can take you in to the city center. If you will be visiting the coastal regions, you can get a connecting domestic flight as this is the most convenient way to travel around the country. Roatan has a cruise ship port and many visitors arrive in the country here.
