  • Favorite place

"We live in San Marcos about 40 minutes from the Laguna. Whenever we need to get away or have family/friends in town, we always book a the Casa del Sol. Tamara is great and super accommodating as well as her staff. House is beautiful, always clean and ready for us. And of course, no words are needed for the Laguna itself."

  • Exceptional!

"My family of 7 stayed here for 10 days. It was one of the best vacations we have ever had. The place is one of a kind. The laguna is a something that is very special. The water is perfect temperature and crystal clear. It is something that is very unique and it is incredible to have it in your front yard. The house is really fantastic as well. It is in perfect condition and is five star. We had many meals in the open kitchen with the view of the lake. It is by far the best place in the area. The best part of the trip was getting to know the caretakers- Wilmer and Estella and thier children. They took very good care of us. Everyday we would leave on our adventures and Estella would clean the entire house. Wilmer is a master gardner and his work is brilliant. I cannot say enough about this property. We left on our last day at 3am and Wilmer woke up to see us off. Just incredible hospitality. Please understand- my family and I love to travel and we have been blessed to go to some extraordinary places, however Quinta Lee will forever be remembered as one of the most extraordinary homes we have ever stayed in."

  • Great Time with the Family at Talanguera--Met Montealegre from across street!

"This unit is right across the street from the Harvard educated, non-corrupt business man who ran for President and Mayor of Managua and was thwarted, sadly, by corrupt Right and Left. Great neighborhood, easy walk to beach. My wife is Nicaraguan, so I get the benefit of her language skills, but honestly, you don't need much Spanish to get along down there. People are really, really nice. I don't speak that much Spanish myself. We like this area of town because it is quieter and more family-oriented. The nicer beach houses are on this side, and Pacific Marlin subdivision is just down the street. There is some construction noise which didn't bother us since we have small kids and it's noisy all the time around us anyway. Pool area is nice. Some of the workers live next door, and it's great for security--no worries about kids going around the property or the pool. Be careful and don't lock yourself out of the room safe like I did, but Monica was great about helping us get that fixed. The internet was wonky, but we didn't use it that much--it seems to suffer if more than one computer is on it and it went out one weekend (I think it may be the service provider; this is Nicaragua, after all, so don't expect US level of service). Power went out one day in town, but was fine. You can use water in stairwell outside for showers while powered pump is down. Wasn't a problem and didn't last long. After a few weeks in SJDS, we feel like locals. Nice small town feel with plenty to do. Realize they are filming 2 seasons of CBS's Survivor at Hermosa and Yankee beaches, so those might be closed for a while. We met the builder/architect--great guy. Great development. Honest owner and local agent. Wish we had the $$ to buy there!"

  • Oasis in the woods

"We were invited to come for an art getaway to Casa Rio. At first I was disappointed it was not on the ocean, but as soon as we arrived we fell in love with the place. The architectural details are rather contemporary zen and it takes advantage of the air. With slatted ventsing around the main sala we need'nt worry about being too warm. The river location was such a delight. There are monkeys everywhere and they entertained us morning and night. There were other flora and fauna to enjoy as well. The home was well stocked for a rental. We cooked our own meals and all was available for our usage. The outdoor showers were interesting although not very private. Hacienda Iguana is such a beautiful place, with a well maintained golf course, spectacular beach and shady walking trails. The new restaurant on the beach, Pili's is excellent. We had dinner and lunch there. All was way above par and Pili herself is a delight. Will definately go there again and recommend Cas Rio."

Nicaragua Travel Tips

Sporting and Leisure Activities near Nicaragua Vacation Rentals

In the area around San Juan Del Sur, surfing is a popular pastime. The swells in Nicaragua are so legendary that they attract surfers from all over the world. Kite surfers and windsurfers can also enjoy the wind and waves. There are several schools along the coastline that provide equipment and lessons if you want to give these sports a try.

Fishing charters are widely available for those that enjoy deep sea and sport fishing. If you want to hook game fish such as marlin, sailfish or tuna, you will want to head out with an experienced skipper who can take you to the best fishing spots. If you prefer something a little more leisurely, a great way to spend an afternoon is on a snorkeling cruise. Sail out of the bay and anchor off one of the many reefs. Then spend the afternoon snorkeling and enjoy the colorful underwater world. If you hold a scuba diving qualification, there are several dive schools and charter companies that will be able to take you out to explore the many reefs. You can even upgrade your certification or sign up for a specialty course during your stay.

If you enjoy lush foliage and birding and don’t mind heights then a treetop canopy tour in the rainforest is a great daytime excursion. Travel between platforms on a zip line and experience a unique bird’s-eye view of your surroundings. Local outfitters are well equipped and ensure that you complete the excursion safely. Another popular way to explore the interior is on a horseback excursion.

Getting to Nicaragua Villas

One of the main points of entry into Nicaragua is Managua International Airport. The airport hosts a wide number of leading North American airlines as well as various other regional airlines. There are frequently scheduled commercial flights from most major hubs in the U.S.

Seasons to Visit Nicaragua Oceanfront Rentals

The peak travel season for surfers is between the months of May and November, when the swell conditions are at their best. Unfortunately, this is also the heavy rainy season. Showers are typically short-lived but downpours can be heavy. If traveling overland in areas where there are only dirt roads, you will need an all-terrain vehicle. In general, a tropical climate dominates which results in consistently warm temperatures all year long. A popular time for beach lovers is between the months of December and April. Nicaragua provides the perfect escape for those from the Northern Hemisphere who want to get away from icy climates for a while. This is also traditionally the windy season so you may need to hold onto your beach hat.

San Juan Del Sur Vacation Rentals in Nicaragua

San Juan Del Sur is one of the most popular beach destinations in Nicaragua. There are many stylish homes and villas that are available for rent. Many homes have magnificent views out over the bay and large open decks where you can dine in the evening or suntan during the day. Many have beautiful lush tropical gardens, complete with a few local inhabitants such as colorful parrots and monkeys. Many of the homes include a hospitality service where housekeepers will cook, clean and even do the grocery shopping for you. On request, they can also get in touch with local tour operators and arrange sightseeing excursions and transportation for you. On days when you are feeling lazy, you can head down to the beach or relax poolside. Hammocks strapped in the trees provide perfect places to finish reading your favorite book. The living areas are generally spacious and comfortably furnished. Entertainment centers are great for when you don’t feel like heading outdoors.
