  • Madeline's Place - My favoreite

"We've been visiting lovely San Juan del Sur annually since 2003. We only discovered Madeline's Place in 2009 and have anxiously returned each year since. Enrico and Maddie make us feel welcome as we arrange reservations via email. The place is amazing... ...beautiful two-bedroom apartment with a nice kitchen, reliable appliances, room for the crew (Rhoda and I usually stay in the main bedroom while surf buds bunk it in the additional room), wireless internet with good signal, a TV that provided all the Royals playoff games, and the pool. Did I mention the pool? Who goes surfing all day in Nicaragua and then gets to enjoy a Flor de Caña and OJ by the beautiful pool. Even the neighbors have been charming (one can't have too many good friends). Angela is warm and takes great care of the place on schedule. The staff provides impecible security and treats us like family, and over our five years they have become like family. Each afternoon at 5:30, it's time to walk across the road to photograph another spectacular sunset. It's a short walk along the beach to any restaurant in town. We rely on Allan Carcamo, the best surf guide in Nicaragua to get to Playa Madera, Hermosa, Remanso, etc. daily. Even the Super Poli (the grocery store) is walkable. I offer my heartiest recommendation to Madeline's Place. Just don't make your reservations for the last weekend in September into the first days of October. I hope we'll be there..."

  • Wonderful Holiday Vacation

"I stayed at Casa Mono for Christmas 2014 and it was everything that all of the reviews say -- beautiful, peaceful, and wonderful (honestly, I'm not sure that the pictures even do it justice!). The house is really a series of structures "connected" by one continuous "roof"/covering. One of the things that is so wonderful about this layout is that it centers around the outdoor space. Additionally, it allows for people to be in the bedrooms and/or the kitchen area and/or the living room area while still feeling like you have your own space. The complex is very well run -- very present 24 hour security and very helpful maintenance crew who were attentive -- and the owners made the booking easy. The office manager at ReMax, Gabby, was really above and beyond, including helping us coordinate our lost luggage on Christmas Eve! Overall it was a wonderful vacation and I hope to be back soon!"

  • Amazing spot right in front of the main surf break!

"I rented this house along with 2 other couples and one 3 year old. It was absolutely amazing. If you have surfers with you, we did, the main break Colorados is literally in front of the house. If you weren't a surfer, this house would still make a lovely romantic getaway. The upstairs has a separate entrance and is HUGE, so just decide who gets that ahead of time if you are traveling with companions. The rental agency Iguana Surf Rentals was fabulous to work with. Nicaragua is a truly lovely country, worth visiting. We used Mateo Blevins for arranging our chef, transportation, and any and all needs we had during our stay, he was great!"

  • Perfection!

"My husband and I stayed here for 3 weeks in May. Maribel and Faxis are an aunt and nephew team that take care of the property and an absolute joy. We still miss Maribel. The beds and pillows are so comfortable, whew! There is AC in every room that keeps you in the comforts of home (U.S.). The kitchen is phenomenal, for any where. The outside seating area is perfect for coffee and evening cocktails and hanging out. The pool is one of Rancho Santana locals favorites because of the shade, a precious commodity!!! There is a tv for the men ;) We were able to watch the NHL playoffs from Nicaragua, who can ask for more. We stayed by ourselves and had a few people in and out too. The layout is so comfortable whether your two people or ten. We can't wait to go back!!! Recommendation: Rent a car. This is not a unique recommendation for this property, you're going to want to explore the surrounding beaches and what not, you're going to want a car no matter what ( that is coming from a cheapskate!)"

Nicaragua Travel Tips

Sporting and Leisure Activities near Nicaragua Vacation Rentals

In the area around San Juan Del Sur, surfing is a popular pastime. The swells in Nicaragua are so legendary that they attract surfers from all over the world. Kite surfers and windsurfers can also enjoy the wind and waves. There are several schools along the coastline that provide equipment and lessons if you want to give these sports a try.

Fishing charters are widely available for those that enjoy deep sea and sport fishing. If you want to hook game fish such as marlin, sailfish or tuna, you will want to head out with an experienced skipper who can take you to the best fishing spots. If you prefer something a little more leisurely, a great way to spend an afternoon is on a snorkeling cruise. Sail out of the bay and anchor off one of the many reefs. Then spend the afternoon snorkeling and enjoy the colorful underwater world. If you hold a scuba diving qualification, there are several dive schools and charter companies that will be able to take you out to explore the many reefs. You can even upgrade your certification or sign up for a specialty course during your stay.

If you enjoy lush foliage and birding and don’t mind heights then a treetop canopy tour in the rainforest is a great daytime excursion. Travel between platforms on a zip line and experience a unique bird’s-eye view of your surroundings. Local outfitters are well equipped and ensure that you complete the excursion safely. Another popular way to explore the interior is on a horseback excursion.

Getting to Nicaragua Villas

One of the main points of entry into Nicaragua is Managua International Airport. The airport hosts a wide number of leading North American airlines as well as various other regional airlines. There are frequently scheduled commercial flights from most major hubs in the U.S.

Seasons to Visit Nicaragua Oceanfront Rentals

The peak travel season for surfers is between the months of May and November, when the swell conditions are at their best. Unfortunately, this is also the heavy rainy season. Showers are typically short-lived but downpours can be heavy. If traveling overland in areas where there are only dirt roads, you will need an all-terrain vehicle. In general, a tropical climate dominates which results in consistently warm temperatures all year long. A popular time for beach lovers is between the months of December and April. Nicaragua provides the perfect escape for those from the Northern Hemisphere who want to get away from icy climates for a while. This is also traditionally the windy season so you may need to hold onto your beach hat.

San Juan Del Sur Vacation Rentals in Nicaragua

San Juan Del Sur is one of the most popular beach destinations in Nicaragua. There are many stylish homes and villas that are available for rent. Many homes have magnificent views out over the bay and large open decks where you can dine in the evening or suntan during the day. Many have beautiful lush tropical gardens, complete with a few local inhabitants such as colorful parrots and monkeys. Many of the homes include a hospitality service where housekeepers will cook, clean and even do the grocery shopping for you. On request, they can also get in touch with local tour operators and arrange sightseeing excursions and transportation for you. On days when you are feeling lazy, you can head down to the beach or relax poolside. Hammocks strapped in the trees provide perfect places to finish reading your favorite book. The living areas are generally spacious and comfortably furnished. Entertainment centers are great for when you don’t feel like heading outdoors.
