  • Wonderful house and helpful owners

"My family spent a month at Casa Irie from mid December to mid January and we had a great time. The house is very comfortable and laid out very well for use by families. we enjoyed the foosball and the guitat which were nice touches and used the ipod dock for listening to music. The highlight of the place though is the infinity pool and the spectacular view of Nacascolo bay especially the sunsets every night. we would stand in the pool and watch the sun go down. It was beautiful. The caretakers, Ben and Grethyl was so nice and helpful and kept the place spotless every day. It really added to the pleasure of our trip. Of course Nicaragua has it's problems with infrastructure and power. Electricity was sometimes spotty and the road to the house required first gear on some of the hills. we had rented an old land cruiser and it was no problem. Still, that is no fault of the property itself and it only added to the adventure and did not decrease our enjoyment of our time there. The town was fun, nice places to eat and we made good use of the barbecue grill on the deck. The beaches were great. We often were the only ones on the beach or there might be three or four other people and we would joke how crowded the beach was. My grandkids got to see baby turtles hatching at la Flor beach and we spent a couple of lovely days at Coco beach, Hermosa beach and Marsella beach. My grandkids got to go ziplining, horseback riding and took surfing lessons. Rebecca, and Dan, the owners kept good contact with us by Email. The wifi at the house was excellent and they helped with any minor problems we had. I would have no hesitation going back to Casa Irie and would recommend it to anyone looking for a rental in San Juan del Sur."

  • Thanksgiving Holiday

"My wife and 6 kids decided to do something completely off the grid for once. It was my daughters last Thanksgiving while still a college student so this was the year. We researched CR, Mexico and the Virgin Islands. Never really thought of Nica until our travel agent went there to investigate a resort. I thought that would be interesting...Nicaragua. Well I did my research and putting a surf beach, fairly close to Managua and a surf shop nearby we found Mar y Estrella. We all loved being off the internet, w/o cell service and socializing within ourselves, and of course surfing as a family. The beach was like Newport, Corona or Huntington Beach in So Cal must of looked like 100 years ago. Nobody there with perfect waves all day long. The caretakers and cook were wonderful and hard not to befriend immediately. Day trips fishing and volcano exploring at Mombacho and neighboring Granada were nice to break up the serenity of sitting on the beach or taking a siesta in the hammock. Louise was easy to work with and has given me countless tid bits of extra info and tips. Some caveats... 1. Driving anywhere will take you twice as long as you think. 2. "Some" spanish is not enough. Someone needs a minimal conversational spanish to get anything except for Granada 3. A four wheel drive is recommended, any rain and dirt roads become like wet rubber cement 4. You learn to share the road with ox drawn carts, loose chickens, goats and pigs Last thoughts... Sunsets were unbelievably beautiful, Dinner at Hotel El Casino in Caseres is worth the small drive (ask for Patrice, the owner) and Nica people are wonderfully friendly and we were treated very well"

  • A Hidden Gem

"We have just returned from a month of rest & relaxation at this awesome Nica property. The pool was fantastic, and the proximity to the ocean was amazing! However, the absolute best advantage of this property over other properties are Luis and Lesbia! Although they started out being the caretaker & cook, they ended up to be great friends. Luis met us at the airport & took over all the driving, grocery buying, touring, ATV rentals, surfing lessons, fishing, and overall problem solving. Without his help, this vacation would not have been the same! Lesbia is an absolutely fantastic cook and one of the sweetest people I know. Every meal was better than the last! Coming from the Midwest, we enjoyed seafood almost everyday. She also took care of all the laundry and cleaning. But what I will miss most about Lesbia is her beautiful smile and her kindness! This brother/sister team are the best! The accommodations are not luxurious but adequate. But as was stated in a previous review, who goes on vacation to sleep! Actually, I think most of my sleeping was done in one of the hammocks or pool chairs. The Internet was fantastic, & we easily kept in touch with our families. The beach was incredible.....private & great surf! Although I am not an ocean swimmer, it was greatly enjoyed by other members of our group. My favorite activity was the pool...always refreshing & well-maintained by Luis. From the pool, you have a great view of the Pacific! So, as the Nebraska winter continues to rage on, we are keeping warm with our wonderful memories of our Nicaraguan trip! Thank you, Jamie, for being so helpful along the way! We look forward to returning someday!"
