  • The Great Escape!!

"Our stay at Casa La Serena was a true escape and complete juxstaposition from the energy that came from SJDS. The support from Gabby, Laura and Shayla coudln't have been more helpful, from answering our pre visit questions, to taking us for a tour of San Juan, to helping us get familar with the lay of the land. If you plan on staying at Balcones for a few days be sure to stock up bc the drive back to town can take time away from your planned R&R. If you enjoy fresh seafood be sure to pick up some from fish/shrimp/lobster etc from the fish market at the pier in town. At Casa La Serena you will be immersed in the sound of slience so be prepared to slow down, shift into neutral and enjoy alot of R&R. The howler monkeys will remind every morning not to sleep in too late and that as much as you may think you are alone you aren't. There is a little establishment called Matildas on the beach near by where you can purchase some cold refreshments and a freshly prepared lunch if you need to recharge, or just enjoy sun and sand (Dont expect a 5 star restaurant, but a true Nicaraguan experience!!) If you want to spoil yourselves even more than you have up to this point ask about purchasing a day pass to Morgans Rock. They have a great restaurant, infiniti pool overlooking the ocean, we had the beach to ourselves (although most beaches in Nica are often like that) They have handfull of tours you can book so check out what they have to offer. There wasnt much to complain about, all in all you cant control the nature that will surround you on your stay but isnt that why you are booking this place?!! to immerse yourself into a suspended state of relaxtion and to be one with nature!! (don't panic the scorpions aren't lethal)....In the end enjoy relaxing in the infinti pool with a cold Tona as you watch the Sun Set over the ocean..what more can you ask for..."

  • October getaway

"My GF and I decided to escape the funky Fall weather in the Colorado Mountains and get a beach fix before ski season. This place was the answer. OK, everyone said the weather in October was always raining. Not true. Some rain but the GREEN of the land and the uncrowded quiet made up for it. It was our second visit to SW Nica. We knew this was the general area we wanted, and Hacienda Iguana was pretty much exactly it. Just modern enough, and as secure as anyone could want. Online, this 1BR Condo looked like everything we needed and it didn't disappoint when we got there. Very clean with a full sized kitchen and good appliances. Modern bathroom with a sweet glass block shower. And a provided cell phone made staying in touch with the nearby managers Seth and Lindsey especially easy when we had a few questions. Their staff was also exceptional in answering our needs at anytime. Super waves all along the beach most days didn't disappoint, even though it was the *off season*. The light sand beach (Playa Colorado) is arguably the best in the country, and even has good shelling for those who might enjoy that sort of thing. Also a nine hole golf course within walking distance. The pool right out the door and downstairs is well maintained and appreciated after a day in the ocean. We made up for the closed (only in October) restaurants by stocking up with everyday groceries on the way there with our driver, and easily arranged to return for more after a week. Inexpensive fresh fish/lobster from the small fishing village next door were the main courses for patio sunset dinners, accessed via a quick and fun ride on a rental motorcycle from NSR. Or there's some phone numbers in the information folder to call for delivery if desired. Good, funky restaurants there too, that remain open in the off season. All in all we left after 3 weeks completely satisfied and refreshed, though a little sore from surfing. Would definitely recommend this Unit for a couple wanting what we did. It's comfortable, not too small, and not too big. Perfect..."

  • Wave Garden

"Our group of 8 adults stayed at the Wave Garden for 9 days in July 2014 and had an amazing time. The house was located directly in front of the Colorados surf break and offered all day viewing entertainment of the surfing. The house was comfortable, clean, and spacious. Favorite parts of the house were the indoor and outdoor pools, lush tropical gardens, art, outdoor bar, and upstairs balcony with crochet hammocks. We kept the glass accordion doors open all day to enjoy the sea breeze. Bedrooms were icy cold at night with the ACs. We got the meal plan and enjoyed every one of Roger and Amilkar's meals! The banana pancakes, dragonfruit juice, cantaloupe smoothies, lobster tails, red snapper, fish tacos, salads and refried beans were our favorites. We were never hungry and were hesitant to try any meals outside of the house because ours were so amazing. We did venture to Magnific Rock one night for a sunset dinner and highly recommend that for both the food and amazing panoramic views. We spent our days surfing at Colorados and Panga Drops, hiking, biking, strolling the beaches for shells, and relaxing in the pools and the hammocks. We rented bikes and explored Hacienda Iguana, the eco reserve, and parts of nearby Rancho Santana. We saw monkeys, exotic birds, iguanas, and lots of crabs! Check the pool for crabs before you get in! They were harmless but loved to take a dip in the pool! We hiked to Gigante and enjoyed Tonas at Buena Vista. We also hiked to Los Perros (both the short way and long way) and made it over to the stairs and explored Playa Duna. Some in the group also rented moto bikes and explored that way. We enjoyed happy hour at the Iguana Beach Club -- $1 Tonas and must-try Passionfruit Margaritas and Banana Daikiris. Seth and Lindsey were so attentive and helpful with all the coordination. I coordinated the trip, transportation from the airport, and meal plan with Lindsey ahead of time and Seth was very attentive to our needs while in the house. I really appreciated the cell phone provided in the house to contact them at a moment's notice. Nicaragua is a beautiful country and the people are so friendly. We were worried about safety prior to travelling but never felt unsafe while there. We can't wait to go back!!!"
