  • What you see and more!

"My husband and I just returned from spending 8 nights at Casa Culebra. It was a fabulous experience for so many reasons. First, we were met by the Concierge, Elisha McKay, in town to review contracts, house information, etc. Then Elisha took us around the town of San Juan del Sur pointing out restaurants, markets, and shops that we might want to go to. This was all invaluable information to have. Also, Elisha had shopped for groceries for us, so that our first night and morning, we would be set up in the house. We picked up our 4-Wheel Drive Land Cruiser from John at Classic Cruiser Nicaragua and followed Elisha out to Casa Culebra. It was a challenging drive the first couple times -- no doubt about it -- but we greatly appreciated Elisha escorting us and bringing us into the property. The house is amazing. You just cannot get a sense of how wonderful it is from the photos. There is breeze coming from all over, so not only do you not need air conditioning, but we even had to put a blanket on at night. It was a wonderful place to be. We cooked most of our meals there --- picking up fish from the fish markets recommended by Elisha --- and bread from Pura Vida Bakery -- yum! Fruit and vegetables from the market in town also recommended by Elisha. We had everything we needed to cook in the kitchen. I think it makes a difference that this isn't just rental house..the owner also uses it, so you can see the care she takes in furnishing it. We were treated to wake up calls from the monkeys and a great variety of birds. I appreciated having the binoculars available at Casa because we forgot ours. It was great to have the pool too. We loved the beaches close by and also adventured out to a few south of SJDS. We will be back to Casa Culebra!"

  • Great Time with the Family at Talanguera--Met Montealegre from across street!

"This unit is right across the street from the Harvard educated, non-corrupt business man who ran for President and Mayor of Managua and was thwarted, sadly, by corrupt Right and Left. Great neighborhood, easy walk to beach. My wife is Nicaraguan, so I get the benefit of her language skills, but honestly, you don't need much Spanish to get along down there. People are really, really nice. I don't speak that much Spanish myself. We like this area of town because it is quieter and more family-oriented. The nicer beach houses are on this side, and Pacific Marlin subdivision is just down the street. There is some construction noise which didn't bother us since we have small kids and it's noisy all the time around us anyway. Pool area is nice. Some of the workers live next door, and it's great for security--no worries about kids going around the property or the pool. Be careful and don't lock yourself out of the room safe like I did, but Monica was great about helping us get that fixed. The internet was wonky, but we didn't use it that much--it seems to suffer if more than one computer is on it and it went out one weekend (I think it may be the service provider; this is Nicaragua, after all, so don't expect US level of service). Power went out one day in town, but was fine. You can use water in stairwell outside for showers while powered pump is down. Wasn't a problem and didn't last long. After a few weeks in SJDS, we feel like locals. Nice small town feel with plenty to do. Realize they are filming 2 seasons of CBS's Survivor at Hermosa and Yankee beaches, so those might be closed for a while. We met the builder/architect--great guy. Great development. Honest owner and local agent. Wish we had the $$ to buy there!"

  • New Years 2014

"Lovely house, and very secluded. Great if you want total privacy and nature. It was a little too far for us, but we still had a fantastic time. Caretaker Juan was great, super helpful and never far away if you needed something. View was incredible!"

  • Best family vacation ever!

"Our family spend 5 weeks at CASAMARI in April/May... and absolutely loved it. We were very cautious travelling with 3 kids under 12 to a foreign + less fortunate country where few people spoke English (and we didn't speak Spanish!). Everything from the booking/deposit/communication with the owner to the property was excellent. The owner Mari was amazing in all communications, giving us peace of mind before and during our stay. When we did encounter problems/needed assistance, Maria/Raul were there to help. The house itself is beautiful large 2 story house, with the top story being the 'house', and the bottom being 3 side by side condos. Everyone shares a pool and BBQ area on the bottom level, while the deck on top is private to the house. The house is very large (pictures don't reflect the size). There are 2 huge bedrooms (king, x3 doubles) and a third smaller room (double). Wireless internet was excellent... and very important as we had to work down there. Words can't describe the 180 degree views of the bay, the sunsets - whether looking out of the 8' windows inside or outside on the covered deck. Location is approximately 2 blocks from the beach, and 3 blocks from town. No car is required... in fact it's cheaper to hire car/drivers or take shuttles to/from the neighboring areas. Life is simple and slow... which is why we went. While there is lots to do, don't expect many first world amenities, or decent medical services for that matter (bring a good first aid kit-antihistamines and antibiotic ear drops are essential). Food choices are simple, local, cheap - whether buying from the market or eating out (we did it all with no bad experiences). The beer is always cold and amazing... often a great meal replacement for the adults! Expect occasional power outages common in Nica... Having a cell phone was important for communication (minutes/data are cheap). Expect roosters and dog barking late night/early am, and music to be heard til 2am on party nights (Semena Santa is a 7day 24hr party... LOUD!; bring earplugs if you are light sleeper!). This simply added to the atmosphere... and we felt safe the entire time. We highly recommend CASAMARI, and feel it is easily the best house rental in SJDS. We simply can't wait to return!"
