  • Perfect in everyway!

"Wow! What a wonderful place! The photos don't really do it justice! Everything that is stated in the listing for this property was accurate except the view is so much more stunning than any photo! The home was spotless and everything in working order. There is also plenty of purified water on sight so don't worry about that. Jan and John were great in all their correspondence with us and so helpful! Be sure and take their recommendations for restaurants and activities as they were right on the target! Jan and John had recommended that if we go to Ometepe that we stay at least 2 days~We did not and I wish we would have. But we hope to go back someday and explore Ometepe again as it was one of the highlights of our trip. You just can't go wrong with this property!"

  • If people ask, "Why Nicaragua?"

"We heard that a lot before we left. What we can now reply is that it is a beautiful and friendly country with gorgeous beaches. San Juan del Sur is very clean with no street hustlers. Playas Maderas and Hermosa were fantastic with some surfing even in the winter month. Best of all was our stay at Casa Miramar. We were a group of 8 adult family and friends. The villas are high class, spacious and well-equipped. The staff kept it clean and us fed. I absolutely recommend getting the meal plan. No meal that we ate at a restaurant was as good as the food we were served right at home. On our last night, Marta made a plantain pie that was unlike anything we had tasted anywhere else, and it was totally delicious! It was such a treat to get breakfast every day, often with pancakes. My family has rented through vrbo for many years all over the world and we all agreed that this was our favorite. We used local taxi drivers to get to the beaches and to Granada and Masaya. It saved a lot of money over the tours. Many in the group went to the yoga studio every day and nearly everyone got a massage , right in the villa, on the last day. Vanessa and Will dropped by and they and Ingrid were always helpful and accomodating. Here are my only warnings: the villas have many stairs and are not suited to people who are not mobile; the hill to the villas is steep-no problem for most but I was winded; December is festival time and we often had trouble sleeping because of loud music and firecrackers; one bedroom is not shown in the photos--it is small with twin beds, high windows and no view; the pool area is not fenced so young children would have to be closely supervised. All in all, we would give it ten out of ten stars!!!"

  • Great place

"Went with 9 guys for a weekend getaway. Staff was very accommodating. Place is big and beautiful. Need a car to get into town as it's about a 10 min drive away. But the villa is kept up nicely and a great view of the bay. We had a chef who was great and had prearranged all the groceries. All in all a good place. They charge an extra 5% for using a credit card so bring cash. And the cash needs to be good quality (they reject bills with any tears). The live on property caretaker was a nice guy and he did a good job. No one on staff speaks any English so ensure to speak Spanish or have a good dictionary."

  • The Great Escape!!

"Our stay at Casa La Serena was a true escape and complete juxstaposition from the energy that came from SJDS. The support from Gabby, Laura and Shayla coudln't have been more helpful, from answering our pre visit questions, to taking us for a tour of San Juan, to helping us get familar with the lay of the land. If you plan on staying at Balcones for a few days be sure to stock up bc the drive back to town can take time away from your planned R&R. If you enjoy fresh seafood be sure to pick up some from fish/shrimp/lobster etc from the fish market at the pier in town. At Casa La Serena you will be immersed in the sound of slience so be prepared to slow down, shift into neutral and enjoy alot of R&R. The howler monkeys will remind every morning not to sleep in too late and that as much as you may think you are alone you aren't. There is a little establishment called Matildas on the beach near by where you can purchase some cold refreshments and a freshly prepared lunch if you need to recharge, or just enjoy sun and sand (Dont expect a 5 star restaurant, but a true Nicaraguan experience!!) If you want to spoil yourselves even more than you have up to this point ask about purchasing a day pass to Morgans Rock. They have a great restaurant, infiniti pool overlooking the ocean, we had the beach to ourselves (although most beaches in Nica are often like that) They have handfull of tours you can book so check out what they have to offer. There wasnt much to complain about, all in all you cant control the nature that will surround you on your stay but isnt that why you are booking this place?!! to immerse yourself into a suspended state of relaxtion and to be one with nature!! (don't panic the scorpions aren't lethal)....In the end enjoy relaxing in the infinti pool with a cold Tona as you watch the Sun Set over the ocean..what more can you ask for..."
