"Just stayed here for 12 days with 9 of my friends. This place is awesome, super close to the surf break Colorados which is perfect if your looking to surf everyday. The pool and set up of this house is insane. The volleyball net in the pool is pretty key for some fun nights. I would suggest this house to any group. The cleaners of the property are super rad people, they helped us get in contact with the local fisherman to drop of some fresh fish and lobsters. All around great place to stay at!"

  • Wave Garden

"Our group of 8 adults stayed at the Wave Garden for 9 days in July 2014 and had an amazing time. The house was located directly in front of the Colorados surf break and offered all day viewing entertainment of the surfing. The house was comfortable, clean, and spacious. Favorite parts of the house were the indoor and outdoor pools, lush tropical gardens, art, outdoor bar, and upstairs balcony with crochet hammocks. We kept the glass accordion doors open all day to enjoy the sea breeze. Bedrooms were icy cold at night with the ACs. We got the meal plan and enjoyed every one of Roger and Amilkar's meals! The banana pancakes, dragonfruit juice, cantaloupe smoothies, lobster tails, red snapper, fish tacos, salads and refried beans were our favorites. We were never hungry and were hesitant to try any meals outside of the house because ours were so amazing. We did venture to Magnific Rock one night for a sunset dinner and highly recommend that for both the food and amazing panoramic views. We spent our days surfing at Colorados and Panga Drops, hiking, biking, strolling the beaches for shells, and relaxing in the pools and the hammocks. We rented bikes and explored Hacienda Iguana, the eco reserve, and parts of nearby Rancho Santana. We saw monkeys, exotic birds, iguanas, and lots of crabs! Check the pool for crabs before you get in! They were harmless but loved to take a dip in the pool! We hiked to Gigante and enjoyed Tonas at Buena Vista. We also hiked to Los Perros (both the short way and long way) and made it over to the stairs and explored Playa Duna. Some in the group also rented moto bikes and explored that way. We enjoyed happy hour at the Iguana Beach Club -- $1 Tonas and must-try Passionfruit Margaritas and Banana Daikiris. Seth and Lindsey were so attentive and helpful with all the coordination. I coordinated the trip, transportation from the airport, and meal plan with Lindsey ahead of time and Seth was very attentive to our needs while in the house. I really appreciated the cell phone provided in the house to contact them at a moment's notice. Nicaragua is a beautiful country and the people are so friendly. We were worried about safety prior to travelling but never felt unsafe while there. We can't wait to go back!!!"

  • Just perfect and for a reasonable price

"We stayed two nights at this Casita (family, 3 small children) and had a wonderful time! The house is very comfy, well equiped kitchen and a plenty of space for children to play and for parents to sit down (both inside and outside) and enjoy a shot of Flor de Cana... A 5min walk to a beautiful surf beach, swimming pool (ideal for both adults and children), restaurant (delicious) and a yoga cabana (one of the best yoga classes we have ever taken.) But above all it is an excelent base (for a reasonable price) for exploring the surroundings - beaches, surfing, restaurants with great views, turtles and other animals, etc. If you want to explore, better come with your own car if you can. Enjoy!"

  • Casa la selva

"Excellent staff, very accommodating. A very secure, safe location to relax poolside in your secluded back yard and then walk across the road to great surf. I would recommend getting picked up and taken back to airport by staff. Also, get it catered. Lobster, MahiMahi, etc."

Tola Travel Tips

Getting to Tola Vacation Rentals

Tola is a small beachfront community located on Nicaragua’s Pacific coastline. It is approximately two to three hours southwest of Managua. To get there, you will fly into Managua International Airport. The airport hosts most North American airlines. There are several flights that operate each week between major hubs in the U.S. such as Ft. Lauderdale, Atlanta, Houston and Miami. If traveling from Europe, you may need to route via one of these cities or another Central American cities. From Managua, the easiest option is to hire a car and drive down to Tola. Some of the vacation homes offer a private transfer service which can be arranged on request. This can save you the hassle of having to hire a car and drive yourself.

Beautiful Natural Surroundings at Tola Villas

Many of the vacation homes in Tola are located in gated resort communities. This provides added security and a wide range of facilities. The most well-known resort is the Hacienda Iguana which is a premier golf resort. Much of the natural vegetation has been preserved and at any time of the day, you may see and hear the howler monkeys that are indigenous to the area. You may also spot the resident iguanas that regularly patrol the grounds. Each year in season, the huge leatherback turtles come to the beach to lay their eggs. Many of the vacation homes have beautiful gardens and outdoor decks so you can enjoy the natural surroundings. Relax in a hammock with your favorite book and enjoy the tranquility of Tola. Many of the homes are built from natural hardwoods and have large windows which allow for beautiful views. Enjoy comfortable furnishings and spacious living areas. Some villas offer the services of a housekeeper or chef that can take care of all your vacation cleaning and catering needs. There are a handful of private vacation homes that are located along the beachfront. These are generally larger, more luxurious, and suitable for groups of friends or large families.

Be Close to the Surf at Your Tola Oceanfront Rentals

Tola is known as one of the premier surf destinations worldwide. On either side, it has two main surf areas that are within a few hundred meters of one another along the coast. Playa Colorado is to the south and known as the Nicaraguan Pipeline. The area is a sand-bottomed beach break which is fed by the waters streaming out of the river mouth of the Rio Colorado. This famous surf spot is where most of the Nicaraguan surfing videos are filmed. The second prized surf spot is just to the north of Tola and known as Ponga Drops. Here, there is a deep water reef that amplifies the swell, providing excellent surfing conditions. The result is an impressively large rolling wave that allows for long rides and carving turns.

For non-surfers, the area still has plenty of attractions. Golfers can enjoy the 9-hole golf course as a regular daily outing. For those looking for something more energetic, you can get in touch with some of the local tour operators. They can arrange guided horseback riding or hiking excursions. If you are looking for a thrill, you can go on a treetop canopy excursion through the rainforest.
