  • Paradise at Casa Sueno

"Four couples ranging in age from 55 to 67 just returned from a week in paradise. We stayed at Los Cardones Surf Lodge 6 years ago and toured Casa Sueno when it was being built so we knew the area, the secluded, empty beach and what to expect. We were not disappointed. The accommodations were wonderful – particularly the great patio area where we spent much of our time. We appreciated Janelle’s (the property manager) help and advice both before and during our stay. She had all our food in the house for us when we arrived and she even provided us with unexpected bake treats a couple of times during our visit – a nice touch! Eveling prepared delicious meals including killer ceviche, homemade tortillas and side dishes, and we chose to grill chicken or fish for ourselves for dinners. We can’t express ourselves any better than JPF and Karen E did when they wrote their reviews. It was the most relaxing vacation we have had. Waves were good for the surfers, shells were plentiful, we saw a turtle lay her eggs and watched 83 baby turtles hatch at Los Cardones. Some of our group went fishing with Dan (Janelle’s husband) and each caught a fish and enjoyed a good day at sea. Our personal home massages were to die for and the extra refrigerator for our Tonia’s kept the beer at just the right temperature. Burrito Bandito serves great food on the way into Casa Sueno, should you need a bite or cold beverage before the long drive in. Hoping to return in the future, as this is a “must go to” destination for those that like off the beaten path places, solitude and gorgeous sunsets."

  • Great B & B - Amazing Garden Cafe

"My husband and I spent 4 days at La Alcoba in Granada. Overall it was a great experience. The breakfast at the adjoining Garden Cafe was fantastic! Really fresh food with great menu choices. The staff were friendly and the cafe was very quaint and clean. The center courtyard was relaxing to just sit and drink some excellent Nicaraguan coffee. The room itself is very large with high, wooden ceilings. There is a mini fridge and a coffee maker with complimentary coffee....we used it every morning! Although the room is not air-conditioned, there are ceiling fans and the air circulation kept the place cool. Also, there was no hot water in the shower....again...not an issue as the water was never really "cold" and with the heat, you were refreshed to have a cool shower! The only negative I have to note has to do with the location. It was both a blessing and a curse. It is very close to the Central Park of the city as well as the main thoroughfare....but because of that, it was noisy. There were cars, motorcycles, people, horse drawn carts going through the streets into the night. We tend to rise early and go to bed early so the level of activity right outside our door made this a bit challenging! So overall an excellent choice for anyone wanting to check out all that Granada and the surrounding area has to offer."

  • We loved this house last year and loved it even more this year!

"Another great stay for me and a group of friends. Bill was great to deal with beforehand. Sandra cooked us amazing Nicaraguan meals. The pool was refreshing but warm. Stayed on the porch from sunrise to sunset. Won't repeat what I've said before or what others have said. We'll be back next year!"

Nicaragua Travel Tips

Sporting and Leisure Activities near Nicaragua Vacation Rentals

In the area around San Juan Del Sur, surfing is a popular pastime. The swells in Nicaragua are so legendary that they attract surfers from all over the world. Kite surfers and windsurfers can also enjoy the wind and waves. There are several schools along the coastline that provide equipment and lessons if you want to give these sports a try.

Fishing charters are widely available for those that enjoy deep sea and sport fishing. If you want to hook game fish such as marlin, sailfish or tuna, you will want to head out with an experienced skipper who can take you to the best fishing spots. If you prefer something a little more leisurely, a great way to spend an afternoon is on a snorkeling cruise. Sail out of the bay and anchor off one of the many reefs. Then spend the afternoon snorkeling and enjoy the colorful underwater world. If you hold a scuba diving qualification, there are several dive schools and charter companies that will be able to take you out to explore the many reefs. You can even upgrade your certification or sign up for a specialty course during your stay.

If you enjoy lush foliage and birding and don’t mind heights then a treetop canopy tour in the rainforest is a great daytime excursion. Travel between platforms on a zip line and experience a unique bird’s-eye view of your surroundings. Local outfitters are well equipped and ensure that you complete the excursion safely. Another popular way to explore the interior is on a horseback excursion.

Getting to Nicaragua Villas

One of the main points of entry into Nicaragua is Managua International Airport. The airport hosts a wide number of leading North American airlines as well as various other regional airlines. There are frequently scheduled commercial flights from most major hubs in the U.S.

Seasons to Visit Nicaragua Oceanfront Rentals

The peak travel season for surfers is between the months of May and November, when the swell conditions are at their best. Unfortunately, this is also the heavy rainy season. Showers are typically short-lived but downpours can be heavy. If traveling overland in areas where there are only dirt roads, you will need an all-terrain vehicle. In general, a tropical climate dominates which results in consistently warm temperatures all year long. A popular time for beach lovers is between the months of December and April. Nicaragua provides the perfect escape for those from the Northern Hemisphere who want to get away from icy climates for a while. This is also traditionally the windy season so you may need to hold onto your beach hat.

San Juan Del Sur Vacation Rentals in Nicaragua

San Juan Del Sur is one of the most popular beach destinations in Nicaragua. There are many stylish homes and villas that are available for rent. Many homes have magnificent views out over the bay and large open decks where you can dine in the evening or suntan during the day. Many have beautiful lush tropical gardens, complete with a few local inhabitants such as colorful parrots and monkeys. Many of the homes include a hospitality service where housekeepers will cook, clean and even do the grocery shopping for you. On request, they can also get in touch with local tour operators and arrange sightseeing excursions and transportation for you. On days when you are feeling lazy, you can head down to the beach or relax poolside. Hammocks strapped in the trees provide perfect places to finish reading your favorite book. The living areas are generally spacious and comfortably furnished. Entertainment centers are great for when you don’t feel like heading outdoors.
