  • Wonderful view and location for a family-friendly or “weekender” beach house

"This beach house is a perfect weekend or vacation beach getaway. The house has beautiful gardens and an even better view of the Pacific and Masachapa’s beach. If you’re not up for a swim at the beach the house also has a pool and we enjoyed drinks while relaxing in the pool and watching the sunset. One of the house’s best features is its outdoor layout. Cooking, dining, sitting in a rocking chair or lying in a hammock can all be done while enjoying the ocean breeze and view. Despite its convenient proximity to Masachapa for yummy seafood, groceries or exploring, the house is private and set above the beach. Oh and it’s less an hour from Managua. Enjoy!"

  • This is an INCREDIBLE getaway - beyond expectations

"My husband and I loved this house, property and location. It's incredibly decadent yet rustic at the same time. The view from the pool and bedrooms is ridiculous and so are the sunsets every night. We loved the "nature" feel of the place with howler monkeys waking you up sometimes in the middle of the night, birds making all kinds of cool noises and ocean breezes coming right through the screened bedroom "walls" -- nothing like it. We were surprised there weren't more bugs - we didn't see a single mosquito. We did, however, see and kill (sorry) a scorpion! We had lots of possums visiting as well. The walk to the beach is super easy and we hiked up two or three beaches north which were quiet and beautiful (the beaches south are more crowded and not as pretty). The kitchen has everything you need, and the bedrooms & bathrooms are sooooo funky, gorgeous and earthy all at the same time. Gabby was also first rate helping us get food and sharing her local knowledge. We'd come back in a heartbeat!"

  • Excellent stay in San Juan Del Sur

"This house was great - we were all very pleased with our choice to stay here. The large airy rooms, pool, quirky-cool character, and on-site housekeeping were huge bonuses that exceeded our expectations going in. The house really is a couple of blocks off the beach and we were glad for that as it buffered us from the noise of the beachfront avenue. While the beach in SJDS was nice, the real gems are out of town. Remonso and Maderas were our favorite beaches although we didn't try Hermosa - it was closed because "Survivor" was being filmed there during our stay! The pool was perfect for our two young children and was impeccably maintained by Luis and his wife. Luis and Darlen were a wonderful addition to our experience at this house, as they looked out for our every need and were available around the clock. We weren’t sure how it would be to have staff share the grounds with us, but it ended up being an enriching experience. We took them up on their offer to cook for us on several occasions and were very pleased. Two highlights were a seafood feast of shrimp and lobster, and a traditional Nica meal including gallo pinto (fried beans and rice), maduros (cooked, soft bananas) and home-made tortillas. Better than the restaurants in town! We had a group of 8 and had more than enough room for us to spread out. We did have a rental car and it was convenient to have, although not absolutely necessary as there are shuttles heading out to the various beaches. Overall, I give this VRBO house my highest recommendation."

  • Comfortable beach house

"We originally booked the house for one week, but enjoyed the space so much that we extended our stay for another week. The location is great, right on the beach. The bus to Leon stops in front of the house, and you can buy eggs, tortillas, bread and veggies across the street. There are also several restaurants within walking distance if you don't feel like cooking. The caretakers, Abel and Socorro were wonderful, especially fun helping us with Spanish! It really was a great vacation...we recommend this house for its privacy, comfort and location."

Nicaragua Travel Tips

Sporting and Leisure Activities near Nicaragua Vacation Rentals

In the area around San Juan Del Sur, surfing is a popular pastime. The swells in Nicaragua are so legendary that they attract surfers from all over the world. Kite surfers and windsurfers can also enjoy the wind and waves. There are several schools along the coastline that provide equipment and lessons if you want to give these sports a try.

Fishing charters are widely available for those that enjoy deep sea and sport fishing. If you want to hook game fish such as marlin, sailfish or tuna, you will want to head out with an experienced skipper who can take you to the best fishing spots. If you prefer something a little more leisurely, a great way to spend an afternoon is on a snorkeling cruise. Sail out of the bay and anchor off one of the many reefs. Then spend the afternoon snorkeling and enjoy the colorful underwater world. If you hold a scuba diving qualification, there are several dive schools and charter companies that will be able to take you out to explore the many reefs. You can even upgrade your certification or sign up for a specialty course during your stay.

If you enjoy lush foliage and birding and don’t mind heights then a treetop canopy tour in the rainforest is a great daytime excursion. Travel between platforms on a zip line and experience a unique bird’s-eye view of your surroundings. Local outfitters are well equipped and ensure that you complete the excursion safely. Another popular way to explore the interior is on a horseback excursion.

Getting to Nicaragua Villas

One of the main points of entry into Nicaragua is Managua International Airport. The airport hosts a wide number of leading North American airlines as well as various other regional airlines. There are frequently scheduled commercial flights from most major hubs in the U.S.

Seasons to Visit Nicaragua Oceanfront Rentals

The peak travel season for surfers is between the months of May and November, when the swell conditions are at their best. Unfortunately, this is also the heavy rainy season. Showers are typically short-lived but downpours can be heavy. If traveling overland in areas where there are only dirt roads, you will need an all-terrain vehicle. In general, a tropical climate dominates which results in consistently warm temperatures all year long. A popular time for beach lovers is between the months of December and April. Nicaragua provides the perfect escape for those from the Northern Hemisphere who want to get away from icy climates for a while. This is also traditionally the windy season so you may need to hold onto your beach hat.

San Juan Del Sur Vacation Rentals in Nicaragua

San Juan Del Sur is one of the most popular beach destinations in Nicaragua. There are many stylish homes and villas that are available for rent. Many homes have magnificent views out over the bay and large open decks where you can dine in the evening or suntan during the day. Many have beautiful lush tropical gardens, complete with a few local inhabitants such as colorful parrots and monkeys. Many of the homes include a hospitality service where housekeepers will cook, clean and even do the grocery shopping for you. On request, they can also get in touch with local tour operators and arrange sightseeing excursions and transportation for you. On days when you are feeling lazy, you can head down to the beach or relax poolside. Hammocks strapped in the trees provide perfect places to finish reading your favorite book. The living areas are generally spacious and comfortably furnished. Entertainment centers are great for when you don’t feel like heading outdoors.
