  • A Colonial Adventure

"Hi, I stayed at Casa Gallo recently with two friends and a four-year old. The house is gorgeous with wonderful amenities.(books, music, hammocks, gardens, rocking chairs, AC's, phones, laundry room, chaise lounges, filtered water, etc.) Jose and Maria-Elena were so friendly and accommodating. The day we arrived they were at the house waiting to greet us. Every afternoon ,we used the pool which was wonderful especially with a youngster. One morning Maria-Elena made us a delicious breakfast that lasted several days. Jose took me to Mombacho Volcano and we even saw a sloth in the forest. The location is perfect and a short walk to the center of Granada. I would highly recommend this home for everyone. Don't miss a visit to the tortilla lady in Parque Central or a class at the Chocolate Museum down the street. The lady gets there around 5:00 and makes the most delicious tortillas with Nica cheese. It was our appetizer almost every night. The photos on the website is exactly what you get. Thank you Richard and Trudy for sharing your beautiful home! • Unexpected paradise

"We needed a place to house three families, including 6 adults and 7 kids. After lots of searching, we were just happy to finally reserve a place with room for us all. On arrival, we realized that Casa de Sol was so much more than we thought. Unparalleled views of the beautiful Laguna de Apoyo; the top of Volcan Mombacho peaking over the rim of the opposite ridge; troupes of Howler Monkeys in the trees; large and luxurious bedrooms; well stocked kitchen and spacious living areas; huge infinity pool overlooking the lake; helpful staff; all of this and more made for the vacation of a lifetime. We've stayed in many vacation rentals in Nicaragua, and this one was by far the most well supplied and maintained. It really feels as if you are invited to share in the owners' personal retreat. If you have small children, be advised that there are some architectural aspects of the property where style and views were valued over safety, such as no railing on the balcony overlooking the pool/lake. This wasn't a surprise to us as we were well-advised beforehand by the owners. Our group included children with the ages of 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, and 9, and after setting some ground rules about where they could and could not go we had a fantastic time. We highly recommend Casa el Sol and look forward to our next visit."

  • Just Like Livin' In Paradise

"We had a great time! Luis and Lesvia exceeded expectations at every turn. We arrived Christmas day and Luis met us at the car rental counter and drove us home while Lesvia put on a feast for the first night - pretty sure alchemy was involved; it was so simple and yet fantastic. Luis taught both of our kids to surf and no matter what we asked about, he seemed to know someone who could hook us up. My son loved deep sea fishing and everyone else enjoyed eating the red snapper, grouper and tuna we caught. Somehow, Luis found lobsters and French champagne for New Year's Eve for the adults while Lesvia made pizza from scratch for the kids. We never ate out but with fresh squeezed mango/papaya/orange juice, the freshest fish and various local dishes prepared by Lesvia, who needed to? Luis even scaled the palm trees to get each of us our own fresh coconut to sip and then Lesvia made ice cream from the rest though I personally suggest adding some of the 7 year old Flor de Cana, grabbing a hammock and watching the sun set. Definitely recommend taking a day to have Luis take you to the Masaya volcano and jungle zip line. Now that we're back in the sub-zero snow of another Midwestern Winter, we're already thinking about our next trip."

Nicaragua Travel Tips

Sporting and Leisure Activities near Nicaragua Vacation Rentals

In the area around San Juan Del Sur, surfing is a popular pastime. The swells in Nicaragua are so legendary that they attract surfers from all over the world. Kite surfers and windsurfers can also enjoy the wind and waves. There are several schools along the coastline that provide equipment and lessons if you want to give these sports a try.

Fishing charters are widely available for those that enjoy deep sea and sport fishing. If you want to hook game fish such as marlin, sailfish or tuna, you will want to head out with an experienced skipper who can take you to the best fishing spots. If you prefer something a little more leisurely, a great way to spend an afternoon is on a snorkeling cruise. Sail out of the bay and anchor off one of the many reefs. Then spend the afternoon snorkeling and enjoy the colorful underwater world. If you hold a scuba diving qualification, there are several dive schools and charter companies that will be able to take you out to explore the many reefs. You can even upgrade your certification or sign up for a specialty course during your stay.

If you enjoy lush foliage and birding and don’t mind heights then a treetop canopy tour in the rainforest is a great daytime excursion. Travel between platforms on a zip line and experience a unique bird’s-eye view of your surroundings. Local outfitters are well equipped and ensure that you complete the excursion safely. Another popular way to explore the interior is on a horseback excursion.

Getting to Nicaragua Villas

One of the main points of entry into Nicaragua is Managua International Airport. The airport hosts a wide number of leading North American airlines as well as various other regional airlines. There are frequently scheduled commercial flights from most major hubs in the U.S.

Seasons to Visit Nicaragua Oceanfront Rentals

The peak travel season for surfers is between the months of May and November, when the swell conditions are at their best. Unfortunately, this is also the heavy rainy season. Showers are typically short-lived but downpours can be heavy. If traveling overland in areas where there are only dirt roads, you will need an all-terrain vehicle. In general, a tropical climate dominates which results in consistently warm temperatures all year long. A popular time for beach lovers is between the months of December and April. Nicaragua provides the perfect escape for those from the Northern Hemisphere who want to get away from icy climates for a while. This is also traditionally the windy season so you may need to hold onto your beach hat.

San Juan Del Sur Vacation Rentals in Nicaragua

San Juan Del Sur is one of the most popular beach destinations in Nicaragua. There are many stylish homes and villas that are available for rent. Many homes have magnificent views out over the bay and large open decks where you can dine in the evening or suntan during the day. Many have beautiful lush tropical gardens, complete with a few local inhabitants such as colorful parrots and monkeys. Many of the homes include a hospitality service where housekeepers will cook, clean and even do the grocery shopping for you. On request, they can also get in touch with local tour operators and arrange sightseeing excursions and transportation for you. On days when you are feeling lazy, you can head down to the beach or relax poolside. Hammocks strapped in the trees provide perfect places to finish reading your favorite book. The living areas are generally spacious and comfortably furnished. Entertainment centers are great for when you don’t feel like heading outdoors.
