"A repeat visit to the Crows Nest on Corn Island proved it was even better than I remembered. . Meditating on the unbelievably blue waters, fresh coconuts, great walks through tropical gardens. Amenities and location can't be beat . It has everything I want when traveling in the tropics. A comfortable bed,a great bath , a cool breeze and a great beach. The Crows Nest remains a great value. "My husband and I stayed here for 3 weeks in May. Maribel and Faxis are an aunt and nephew team that take care of the property and an absolute joy. We still miss Maribel. The beds and pillows are so comfortable, whew! There is AC in every room that keeps you in the comforts of home (U.S.). The kitchen is phenomenal, for any where. The outside seating area is perfect for coffee and evening cocktails and hanging out. The pool is one of Rancho Santana locals favorites because of the shade, a precious commodity!!! There is a tv for the men ;) We were able to watch the NHL playoffs from Nicaragua, who can ask for more. We stayed by ourselves and had a few people in and out too. The layout is so comfortable whether your two people or ten. We can't wait to go back!!! Recommendation: Rent a car. This is not a unique recommendation for this property, you're going to want to explore the surrounding beaches and what not, you're going to want a car no matter what ( that is coming from a cheapskate!)"Guest: Whitney B. "Our biggest mistake in choosing to stay at Casa Arbol was only staying 3 nights. It is a lovely place in a beautiful setting, but it is quite remote and the road getting there is extremely slow going. Getting there and away is fairly time-consuming, so the more time you can book, the more you will enjoy your stay. The pros: The house is beautifully designed, with a well-equipped kitchen, comfy beds, gorgeous views, and a VERY short drive (or somewhat arduous, hilly hike) to one of the most spectacular beach sunsets imaginable. Waking up to the amazing jungle views and sounds was absolutely beautiful. Gabby, the rental agent, is extremely helpful and nice. She organized a surf lesson for us (highly recommended!) and was tremendously helpful when we woke up to a flat tire on our rental car. Even with a rugged 4WD SUV, AN ABSOLUTE MUST, we got a flat. The cons, or things just not mentioned in the owner's description that would've been helpful to know: There is wifi, but no phone service. Not a huge deal, but would've been good to know in advance. Also, the place really is quite remote. It took at least 30 mins to get there from town, so once you're there, you're there. A basic first-aid kit is recommended, as are flashlights/headlamps. Be prepared to do a lot of your own cooking -- the kitchen is great and there's a nice gas grill on the beautiful deck. Gabby took us to a fantastic fish market -- super fresh seafood at incredibly low prices. Also, the pool is nice but quite small, and it is not private. It is shared with the house next door, which is closer to Casa Arbol than the owner photos indicate. Again, not a big deal, just a bit of a surprise based on the photos in the listing. Overall, we had a lovely stay and would come back again if we had more time!"Guest: Michael B. Date of Stay: November 2013 Review Submitted: February 2, 2014View listing
Nicaragua Travel Tips
Sporting and Leisure Activities near Nicaragua Vacation Rentals
In the area around San Juan Del Sur, surfing is a popular pastime. The swells in Nicaragua are so legendary that they attract surfers from all over the world. Kite surfers and windsurfers can also enjoy the wind and waves. There are several schools along the coastline that provide equipment and lessons if you want to give these sports a try.
Fishing charters are widely available for those that enjoy deep sea and sport fishing. If you want to hook game fish such as marlin, sailfish or tuna, you will want to head out with an experienced skipper who can take you to the best fishing spots. If you prefer something a little more leisurely, a great way to spend an afternoon is on a snorkeling cruise. Sail out of the bay and anchor off one of the many reefs. Then spend the afternoon snorkeling and enjoy the colorful underwater world. If you hold a scuba diving qualification, there are several dive schools and charter companies that will be able to take you out to explore the many reefs. You can even upgrade your certification or sign up for a specialty course during your stay.
If you enjoy lush foliage and birding and don’t mind heights then a treetop canopy tour in the rainforest is a great daytime excursion. Travel between platforms on a zip line and experience a unique bird’s-eye view of your surroundings. Local outfitters are well equipped and ensure that you complete the excursion safely. Another popular way to explore the interior is on a horseback excursion.
Getting to Nicaragua Villas
One of the main points of entry into Nicaragua is Managua International Airport. The airport hosts a wide number of leading North American airlines as well as various other regional airlines. There are frequently scheduled commercial flights from most major hubs in the U.S.
Seasons to Visit Nicaragua Oceanfront Rentals
The peak travel season for surfers is between the months of May and November, when the swell conditions are at their best. Unfortunately, this is also the heavy rainy season. Showers are typically short-lived but downpours can be heavy. If traveling overland in areas where there are only dirt roads, you will need an all-terrain vehicle. In general, a tropical climate dominates which results in consistently warm temperatures all year long. A popular time for beach lovers is between the months of December and April. Nicaragua provides the perfect escape for those from the Northern Hemisphere who want to get away from icy climates for a while. This is also traditionally the windy season so you may need to hold onto your beach hat.
San Juan Del Sur Vacation Rentals in Nicaragua
San Juan Del Sur is one of the most popular beach destinations in Nicaragua. There are many stylish homes and villas that are available for rent. Many homes have magnificent views out over the bay and large open decks where you can dine in the evening or suntan during the day. Many have beautiful lush tropical gardens, complete with a few local inhabitants such as colorful parrots and monkeys. Many of the homes include a hospitality service where housekeepers will cook, clean and even do the grocery shopping for you. On request, they can also get in touch with local tour operators and arrange sightseeing excursions and transportation for you. On days when you are feeling lazy, you can head down to the beach or relax poolside. Hammocks strapped in the trees provide perfect places to finish reading your favorite book. The living areas are generally spacious and comfortably furnished. Entertainment centers are great for when you don’t feel like heading outdoors.
