"We cannot recommend Casa Flor de Luna highly enough. Our stay helped to make our six days in Granada an exceptional experience. The Casa is well located, a couple of blocks off of the main road coming in from Managua and a 10-15 minute walk to Parque Central and all Granada restaurants and attractions. The house includes a garage which was ideal for our rental car. The main floor of the house has a spacious salla/living room, a well appointed kitchen with all necessary appliances and utensils. There are two very spacious bedrooms with comfortable beds (2 upstairs and 1.5 downstairs). It also includes three bathrooms with large shower stalls in each. All of the rooms have ceiling fans. The two bedrooms have AC but we never used it. We found we could sleep and relax comfortably with just the fans. We were frugal with lights and always ensured electrical items were off / unplugged unless we were using them. Our cost for electricity for 6 days was $8.37 but beware if you use AC and leave things on! The house is equipped with cable tv and Internet and very reliable wifi. The pool is a fantastic asset in the heat of Granada. It is very private (in the enclosed courtyard) and while small, it is ideal for a cooling dip. The decor is comfortable and the lifestyle wonderfully Nica. You are also only a few blocks walk to two grocery stores that, while expensive by local standards, offer a wide range of amenities including fresh fruit, veggies, meat, bread, cold cuts, cheese, wine and beer. What more do you need? The local agents, Heydi and Eric, are friendly, helpful and nearby. The cleaner and pool guy, Jenny and Javier respectively, are also friendly and efficient. This is a wonderful Casa and will help to make your stay in Granada special."Guest: Rick P Date of Stay: September 2014 Review Submitted: September 23, 2014View listing
"Just stayed here for 12 days with 9 of my friends. This place is awesome, super close to the surf break Colorados which is perfect if your looking to surf everyday. The pool and set up of this house is insane. The volleyball net in the pool is pretty key for some fun nights. I would suggest this house to any group. The cleaners of the property are super rad people, they helped us get in contact with the local fisherman to drop of some fresh fish and lobsters. All around great place to stay at!"Guest: Andy Date of Stay: June 2014 Review Submitted: June 17, 2014View listing
"We have been to Nicaragua on several occasions. Since 2010 we have had various family members, relatives and friends stay multiple times at Casa Sonrisas. This desired destination keeps offering more each time, and the home owner has really perfected the quality of service she provides to her guests. Most recently I was in Granada in February of 2014 with a group of 5 visitors. This was my second stay at Casa Sonrisas and my expectations once again were exceeded. Upon arriving we settled in very quickly, Casa Sonrisas has a way of making one feel as if you've come home again. This elegant colonial home is charming and extremely spacious. The rooms are clean and furnished with tasteful, unique pieces and comfortable beds. There is a fantastic collection of fascinating original art throughout the home. The bathrooms are well maintained, clean with hot/cold showers. The kitchen is very well equipped and a favorite gathering place. We enjoyed typical Nicaraguan meals prepared by the very courteous housekeeper Carmen. She is very friendly and also does a fantastic job keeping the home clean and tidy. The location of this home is excellent, majestically nestled in a corner and conveniently within a short walking distance to the main square and "La Calzada", offering the opportunity to experience local arts and culture, delicious eats, people and the best of what Nicaragua has to offer. Every Friday-Sunday night staring at 6pm a street food kiosk sets up opposite corner of the home, be sure to try the tacos, to experience Nicaraguan street food at its best! The pool is alluring, especially after a fun filled day taking in the sites in Granada. The owner is extremely helpful, professional and accommodating from the very start. She is very accessible and responds promptly to inquiries. We fully anticipate returning to this home and highly recommend this experience to travelers. Go ahead book your time Casa Sonrisas, you will come back time and time again!"Guest: Wil Date of Stay: February 2014 Review Submitted: March 16, 2014View listing
"This beach house is a perfect weekend or vacation beach getaway. The house has beautiful gardens and an even better view of the Pacific and Masachapa’s beach. If you’re not up for a swim at the beach the house also has a pool and we enjoyed drinks while relaxing in the pool and watching the sunset. One of the house’s best features is its outdoor layout. Cooking, dining, sitting in a rocking chair or lying in a hammock can all be done while enjoying the ocean breeze and view. Despite its convenient proximity to Masachapa for yummy seafood, groceries or exploring, the house is private and set above the beach. Oh and it’s less an hour from Managua. Enjoy!"Guest: NicaPC58 Date of Stay: February 2014 Review Submitted: April 10, 2014View listing
Nicaragua Travel Tips
Sporting and Leisure Activities near Nicaragua Vacation Rentals
In the area around San Juan Del Sur, surfing is a popular pastime. The swells in Nicaragua are so legendary that they attract surfers from all over the world. Kite surfers and windsurfers can also enjoy the wind and waves. There are several schools along the coastline that provide equipment and lessons if you want to give these sports a try.
Fishing charters are widely available for those that enjoy deep sea and sport fishing. If you want to hook game fish such as marlin, sailfish or tuna, you will want to head out with an experienced skipper who can take you to the best fishing spots. If you prefer something a little more leisurely, a great way to spend an afternoon is on a snorkeling cruise. Sail out of the bay and anchor off one of the many reefs. Then spend the afternoon snorkeling and enjoy the colorful underwater world. If you hold a scuba diving qualification, there are several dive schools and charter companies that will be able to take you out to explore the many reefs. You can even upgrade your certification or sign up for a specialty course during your stay.
If you enjoy lush foliage and birding and don’t mind heights then a treetop canopy tour in the rainforest is a great daytime excursion. Travel between platforms on a zip line and experience a unique bird’s-eye view of your surroundings. Local outfitters are well equipped and ensure that you complete the excursion safely. Another popular way to explore the interior is on a horseback excursion.
Getting to Nicaragua Villas
One of the main points of entry into Nicaragua is Managua International Airport. The airport hosts a wide number of leading North American airlines as well as various other regional airlines. There are frequently scheduled commercial flights from most major hubs in the U.S.
Seasons to Visit Nicaragua Oceanfront Rentals
The peak travel season for surfers is between the months of May and November, when the swell conditions are at their best. Unfortunately, this is also the heavy rainy season. Showers are typically short-lived but downpours can be heavy. If traveling overland in areas where there are only dirt roads, you will need an all-terrain vehicle. In general, a tropical climate dominates which results in consistently warm temperatures all year long. A popular time for beach lovers is between the months of December and April. Nicaragua provides the perfect escape for those from the Northern Hemisphere who want to get away from icy climates for a while. This is also traditionally the windy season so you may need to hold onto your beach hat.
San Juan Del Sur Vacation Rentals in Nicaragua
San Juan Del Sur is one of the most popular beach destinations in Nicaragua. There are many stylish homes and villas that are available for rent. Many homes have magnificent views out over the bay and large open decks where you can dine in the evening or suntan during the day. Many have beautiful lush tropical gardens, complete with a few local inhabitants such as colorful parrots and monkeys. Many of the homes include a hospitality service where housekeepers will cook, clean and even do the grocery shopping for you. On request, they can also get in touch with local tour operators and arrange sightseeing excursions and transportation for you. On days when you are feeling lazy, you can head down to the beach or relax poolside. Hammocks strapped in the trees provide perfect places to finish reading your favorite book. The living areas are generally spacious and comfortably furnished. Entertainment centers are great for when you don’t feel like heading outdoors.
