  • Villa Oro, San Juan del Sur

"My husband and I spent two wonderful weeks at Villa Oro. Though there were only two of us, it would easily accommodate another couple, or children. Villa Oro is a wonderful place to stay while visiting San Juan del Sur. The house is in a lovely, quiet location about 10 minutes from town. The house is situated in the hills above San Juan, with stunning views of the ocean, the sunsets, and the night sky. The house is amazingly well equipped, and the kitchen has everything you might want for any cooking you want to do at home. We actually preferred to sip a drink, and eat dinner on the veranda, watching the sun set over the bay. The house is very light and airy, with high ceilings. The living area is large, with French doors that open onto the veranda. The master bedroom has a king size bed, with a lovely master bath. This bedroom also has French doors that open onto the veranda. The whole house has enough doors and windows, so that it was delightful to open them up and let the breeze blow through. The grounds are large, and beautifully landscaped. The howler monkeys came onto the property on several occasions, and the pool was a treat after a day at the beach. Finally, the wifi is great! We had a very small rental car, which was fine for navigating the road to Villa Oro in the dry season. We also had no trouble getting to most all of the beaches in our little Yaris. We enjoyed the fresh fish we bought near the port, the produce in the market, Sanchez Market, the bread at Pan de Vida, and the occasional trip to Pali. The owner is very responsive, and will help you with any questions you have regarding the property, and the onsite caretakers are extremely helpful as well."

  • Great Stay

"4 couples went and shared the house for a week. All of the guys and two of the girls are surfers. We had an awesome time surfing right out front and hanging out at the Iguana pool. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Unfortunately, the first night we were there something broke on the house and the power was out for the whole night (even the generator didnt work). Luckily, the staff was able to get the house fixed the next day and we enjoyed a great rest of the stay. Definitely recommended."

  • Great house, location, food and hospitality

"The house is beautiful with two great master bedrooms. The pool, balcony and patio below are all perfect for watching the surf at Colorados. The food was great and housekeeping kept the place really clean. There was a huge supply of filtered drinking water. Seth hooked us up with a few boat trips to some great reef breaks. We will definitely be back to stay at the Wave Garden house."

  • A Surfer's Paradise ... and a Beautiful, Simple Home

"We LOVED Casa Maderas y Olas!! We stayed there for 1 month during July of 2014, and found it to be very clean, simple, and beautifully decorated. We enjoyed the hard wood floors that kept sand to a minimum and cleaning a breeze. The washer was nice to have since we didn't bring much with us and needed to keep our clothes clean also. The king size beds were comfy and we liked that the two bedrooms were on opposite ends of the house for privacy. The large balcony overlooking the trees was a great place to relax after surfing, and the hammocks were awesome! Plenty of room for everyone to spread out! The kitchen was fully stocked with supplies for cooking, so we were able to save a lot of money cooking at home. Conveniently located only 20min from San Juan Del Sur, we enjoyed going into town for groceries and nightlife when the mood struck, as well as walking to our favorite pizza place- Munchies Bluues, which has the BEST pizza and atmosphere in Nica! For surfers, the location is perfect. Very close to Playa Maderas, offering waves for all levels of surfing, and very consistent surf. Small eateries are also there, so it was nice to grab some snacks and drinks after a great session. Overall, it was one of the best places we've stayed in our travels throughout Central America, and we can't wait to come back again soon ! Tony (property manager) was very helpful, answering any questions we had and making sure we were comfortable, and the caretaker that lived on property was VERY nice and helpful also. He even let us share his power outlet to charge our computers, as well as store our cold items in his refrigerator when the power went out occasionally (very common in Nicaragua). Excellent surf within walking distance... a comfy and beautiful home to relax in... in a welcoming and safe country. Who could ask for more?!! Casa Maderas y Olas?? We loved it!"

Nicaragua Travel Tips

Sporting and Leisure Activities near Nicaragua Vacation Rentals

In the area around San Juan Del Sur, surfing is a popular pastime. The swells in Nicaragua are so legendary that they attract surfers from all over the world. Kite surfers and windsurfers can also enjoy the wind and waves. There are several schools along the coastline that provide equipment and lessons if you want to give these sports a try.

Fishing charters are widely available for those that enjoy deep sea and sport fishing. If you want to hook game fish such as marlin, sailfish or tuna, you will want to head out with an experienced skipper who can take you to the best fishing spots. If you prefer something a little more leisurely, a great way to spend an afternoon is on a snorkeling cruise. Sail out of the bay and anchor off one of the many reefs. Then spend the afternoon snorkeling and enjoy the colorful underwater world. If you hold a scuba diving qualification, there are several dive schools and charter companies that will be able to take you out to explore the many reefs. You can even upgrade your certification or sign up for a specialty course during your stay.

If you enjoy lush foliage and birding and don’t mind heights then a treetop canopy tour in the rainforest is a great daytime excursion. Travel between platforms on a zip line and experience a unique bird’s-eye view of your surroundings. Local outfitters are well equipped and ensure that you complete the excursion safely. Another popular way to explore the interior is on a horseback excursion.

Getting to Nicaragua Villas

One of the main points of entry into Nicaragua is Managua International Airport. The airport hosts a wide number of leading North American airlines as well as various other regional airlines. There are frequently scheduled commercial flights from most major hubs in the U.S.

Seasons to Visit Nicaragua Oceanfront Rentals

The peak travel season for surfers is between the months of May and November, when the swell conditions are at their best. Unfortunately, this is also the heavy rainy season. Showers are typically short-lived but downpours can be heavy. If traveling overland in areas where there are only dirt roads, you will need an all-terrain vehicle. In general, a tropical climate dominates which results in consistently warm temperatures all year long. A popular time for beach lovers is between the months of December and April. Nicaragua provides the perfect escape for those from the Northern Hemisphere who want to get away from icy climates for a while. This is also traditionally the windy season so you may need to hold onto your beach hat.

San Juan Del Sur Vacation Rentals in Nicaragua

San Juan Del Sur is one of the most popular beach destinations in Nicaragua. There are many stylish homes and villas that are available for rent. Many homes have magnificent views out over the bay and large open decks where you can dine in the evening or suntan during the day. Many have beautiful lush tropical gardens, complete with a few local inhabitants such as colorful parrots and monkeys. Many of the homes include a hospitality service where housekeepers will cook, clean and even do the grocery shopping for you. On request, they can also get in touch with local tour operators and arrange sightseeing excursions and transportation for you. On days when you are feeling lazy, you can head down to the beach or relax poolside. Hammocks strapped in the trees provide perfect places to finish reading your favorite book. The living areas are generally spacious and comfortably furnished. Entertainment centers are great for when you don’t feel like heading outdoors.
