  • Perfect Bocas Stay

"I can honestly say I have never before written an online review, though I'm extremely reliant on them when traveling and felt it was my duty to write about this vacation home since it was so, so good. We stayed at Tera's in Bocas from 12/29-1/23. I had never been to Bocas del Toro before and was unsure if I had chosen the right location. The house is situated 4.5 miles from town. To get to and from town, you use the house phone (you purchase minutes in town) to call a cab. We used the driver Miguel for everything - Javier will set you up with him. We generally went to town every day and the fare is $2 per person per trip. From town, we'd spend our days taking boat taxis to explore other islands or dine at one of the many bars/restos there. Our favorite was Ultimo Refugio. The other saving grace was the gourmet supermarket (I'm blanking on the name now) but it's also at the end of town. North of the house is the finest beach on Colon, Bluff Beach. We were in Panama for surf and would head to Bluff nearly everyday. The ride to Bluff is steep ($20/$30) but worth it. There are two great restaurants there and it's beautiful. The only food/bev options within biking/walking distance to the house is a wood fire pizza spot (only open at night) and a great resto called Paki Point on the beach over looking the surf spots Tiger Tails and Ponch. I would not have traded the location of the house for anything. It was mid way between everywhere we wanted to be. We absolutely loved it. The house itself is extremely well maintained. The AC is good and cold, the house was extremely clean and water worked great. Even the laundry was modern and wonderful. The house was equipped with all the major things I'm typically concerned with such as a coffee machine, bottled water for drinking and new/lovely beach and bath towels. Javier the caretaker is awesome. He sorted us out with just about anything we needed. I used his services twice weekly to tidy the house and he did an excellent job. He's really sweet and I found him to be very trustworthy. Overall, a fantastic stay in Bocas. We absolutely loved it and will be back!"

  • Fantastic Experience

"One of our favorite trips ever. Fell in love with Bocas and Bocas Villas was a perfect place to enjoy it from. Philip and Brown were awesome. Quiet, beautiful, peaceful, amazing stand-up paddleboarding, great snorkling, yet close to town and beach and surf. We can't wait to come back."

  • We really enjoyed our stay!

"We stayed at Sandi’s place for 10 days in January 2015. Sandi met us at the Bocas del Toro airport in her Toyota pickup. We stopped for groceries and toured the downtown of Bocas. The apartment is about two miles out of town and off the road about 100 metres. The door was open to the apartment when we arrived and it was a “wow” moment when we looked inside. There was a large interior space, a well appointed kitchen and the bedroom was large and airy with a large en suite bathroom attached. The apartment was very homey and comfortable. There was a nice gas bbq on the back porch that came in very handy. We waited at the Panama City airport for 2.5 hours for the plane to come in and fly us to Bocas. The delay was caused by heavy storms. It was an insight into what was to come for the next 6 days. What I failed to do was read the part where it is the rainy season in January. I thought the rainy season ended in November in the Caribbean but Panama has its own little climactic zone. We were quite comfortable on the large porch reading and conversing. It was a very relaxed atmosphere with the beautiful flowers, birds, humming birds and resident dogs. While we wished we were at the beach down the road, chilling on the porch was still better than shoveling snow back home! We rented some bicycles for a week for $50 each. The ride to town for fresh veggies, groceries and wine was about 20 minutes each way. We had the water on one side and the rainforest on the other. We ate at two restaurants in town. Both were good and a good value for the money. Sandi took us on two excursions, showing us the island. She is very knowledgeable and is well known. We had a lot of fun during our time with her. When the sun came out, we spent time on the beach at the end of the laneway. There is a dock on the water for the ones who can handle the bright hot sun. There is also shade and a fresh water brook on the beach for those who need a break from the sun. This is a place for surfers – the waves are a delight. We had a lot of fun getting to know Sandi over a couple of glasses of wine. She is a superb hostess and keeps a very clean property. She arranged a tour guide at the last minute for our last day in Panama City. We spent a fruitful day in the city before catching our plane back to the ice and snow. Sandi emailed us later to say the sun was still out and the weather was beautiful. Thank you for having us, Sandi."

  • Perfect for our Family

"Our family 2 adults and 2 children ages 10 and 7 had the pleasure to stay in this delightful cabin in Bocas in November 2014. This was the perfect place for our family to stay, it gave us a lot of space to cook and enjoy the jungle. We love adventure filled and active vacations and this was the perfect location for us. We especially loved exploring the island by bikes which was a lovely option provided by Lucas. Our kids loved to spend time with Lucas and Gloria and the chickens and dogs and cat. Lucas chopped coconuts right out of the trees in the yard for the children to enjoy. My husband enjoyed visiting Lucas's music studio and taking a CD home with us. Lucas was great at suggesting wonderful restaurants, arranged a great snorkel tour for us, told us all the places to search for monkeys and sloths, and gave great biking directions to deserted beaches and great swimming areas. We really enjoyed visting the Bastimentos Island and visiting Up The Hill chocolate farm and eating at Alvin's which was a very enjoyable water taxi away. In Bocas we enjoyed wonderful coffee at the new Coffee Shop (close to town) and eating at Refugio. November was a great time to visit Bocas, great weather and almost no tourists, we would highly recommend visting at this time and staying at this great cabin."
