  • EXCELLENT!

"This was my first trip not only to Bocas, but to Panama. I travel to Costa Rica often and wanted to see something new. I was hesitant in my search for a hotel or house because I didn't know what to expect and finally booked Bills place. My friend and I were pleasantly surprised just how hospitable Bill was when picking us up at the airport and taking us to a good sized grocery to get supplies. I did all the planning, and my friend was very impressed the minute we stepped for in our condo. Everything we could have possibly needed was there, including a state of the art and fully equipped kitchen, spacious dining area and living room and very large washer and dryer. There was plenty of room for privacy, as my friend and I love our alone time with two ensuite bedrooms with very spacious bathrooms and a separate guest bathroom in the hallway. We really enjoyed our mornings and evening on the porch where we listened to music and drank local beers. Our condo was very clean, neat and had all of the amenities listed. Bill was super helpful with recommendations where to go and swayed us away from some common touristy things like boat tours which I appreciated as I like to live like a local when vacationing. I would highly recommend Burn Brae Plantation to any family member and friends. It was a 5 minutes taxi ride into the hustle and bustle of Town and far enough away to really feel like you are on holiday! I will definitely return!!!"

  • Loved this place

"This place has all the amenities you could want in Bocas del Toro. The spacious home has two private units on the ground level with a shared patio. The open, modern floor plan was clean and spacious with a full kitchen as well as access to a washer and dryer. We enjoyed the location, which is centered between town (2 miles) and beach bluff. Although bicycles were available, we rented an ATV down the street, which was reasonably priced, making it easy to get around in both day and evenings. Sandi was a gracious host—friendly and welcoming but not intrusive. She has dogs for protection, as do most people owning property in Bocas. We enjoyed occasional cocktails on Sandi’s upper patio, and she helped us arrange several tours, which were highlights of our trip. We enjoyed the jungle feel of the area, including the howler monkeys, without giving up modern amenities."

  • An EXCELLENT Choice!

"I spent a most relaxing week alone in this wonderful home. Clean, comfortable (good bed in master bedroom), good location and a very diligent caretaker, Javiar, who speaks English very well. This alone is worth a "star" to those who have limited Spanish skills. The "Big Creek" area, where the home is located, is the perfect distance from town---only 5 minutes away in a taxi. You don't need to call a taxi; just start walking on the main road (2 minutes walk from house) and one will come along. This area is beautiful for walking--lovely beaches and amazing, bountiful flora. (And yes, you frequently hear the "Howlers"--a most ferocious sound from such small monkeys!!) An added plus is that there is a pretty overwater restaurant within walking distance (Tortuga Resort). I never used the air-con as there are adequate windows and many ceiling fans to "catch" the cooling sea breeze. The elevated deck/outdoor living room is BUG FREE!! Again, bless those ceiling fans! The master bedroom has excellent air ventilation and a good mattress, insuring a good night's sleep. The kitchen is well stocked with everything needed (except condiments and spices)--good quality appliances in proper working order. Honestly, this house is SO comfortable that you might have trouble making yourself go explore!"

  • Excellent stay

"The house was clean and the kitchen was well-equipped. Though the waves were too rough for a boat taxi the house's closeness to the sea was music to my ears. The setting was beautiful. The house is surrounded by jungle and the glorious sounds of the sea directly in front of the property. Dominique met us in Boca and it was a good thing that we did a little shopping before taking the taxi boat to Bastimientos. One of the two guys that helps to maintain the property and provide some semblance of security met us at the taxi boat dock with a wheel barrel to help carry our suitcases and the box of grocery items we bought in Boca. One tip, few businesses take credit cards, so bring enough hard cash. There are a couple of small grocery stores and decent places to eat. We hiked to Wizard beach and enjoyed the solitude of the beach. It was a very pleasant stay and would definitely recommend. The A/C in the master bedroom takes a long time to cool down the room, so we just started it awhile before going to bed and closed the bedroom door. It was nice and cool when we finally decided to go to bed. Thanks Jerry and the whole team."

Bocas del Toro Travel Tips

Natural Beauty at Bocas del Toro Vacation Homes

Bocas del Toro is a small archipelago of islands in Panama in Central America. It was the country’s first national park. Because of conservation efforts, it has remained a pristine haven of natural resources. Bird and turtle sanctuaries are numerous and visitors can enjoy nature at its best. Many divers come to explore the underwater world and snorkelers can view the reefs from the surface. There are many trails that are open for visitors to explore and travelers who enjoy trekking can explore a wide range of landscapes. It’s a destination where a more leisurely pace prevails and you can take some time to enjoy the local culture and natural attractions.

Bocas del Toro Travel Attractions

In Bocas del Toro, you are really spoiled for choice. Unless you are staying for an extended period, you will really be hard-pressed to explore all of the attractions the area has to offer. Both the land and sea offer many opportunities for exploration.

The scuba diving is excellent and there are several reputable dive schools in the area that operate daily charters. Snorkeling excursions and leisurely sightseeing cruises can also be easily arranged. For a different kind of snorkeling experience, join an excursion to the mangroves. Here in the crystal clear waters, you can see the sponges, starfish, fire corals and crabs that make this area their home. Surfers’ favorite spots are the waves off the Bastimentos and Colon Islands, and Carenero Quay. While the waves are good, it’s not a place for novice surfers. Many of the waves break close to the beach or dump on coral reefs, and you need to have the ability to break away before you get too close to either.

There are many marked trails for hiking on the different islands and some local tour operators will provide a guiding service to take you around. Some of the longer trails are open for mountain biking and bikes can be hired relatively inexpensively. Two of the more well known trails are the Red Frog Trail and the Sloth Trail.

The Bocas del Toro town is a place with a rich history. Many beautiful old buildings tell their own tales of industries and developments over the ages. Many of the old colonial buildings are being lovingly restored to their former glory, making strolling down the streets a wonderful experience.

Leisurely Days at Bocas del Toro Vacation Houses

Bocas del Toro is the type of destination that you visit to escape hectic your busy life for a while. The beautiful natural surroundings and wealth of outdoor activities will quickly rejuvenate your spirits. Many of the vacation homes are located on the beachfront with sweeping views over the ocean. Enjoy breakfast out on the deck and hear the birds in the trees overhead. Most rental homes are spacious and comfortably furnished. Many are characterized by large windows, open decks and surrounded by lush tropical gardens. Staying here you can enjoy your own private piece of paradise.

Getting to Bocas del Toro

For international travelers, you will need to route via the international airport in Panama City. From there, you can get a connection with one of the domestic airlines into Bocas del Toro. There are regularly scheduled flights but because Bocas is a popular tourist destination, they are often quite fully booked. It’s therefore essential to make your reservation together with your international flight and reconfirm your flight details again prior to your departure. Upon arrival in Bocas del Toro, you can get a marine taxi out to the islands. There are two taxi companies that operate regularly scheduled departures throughout the day.
