  • We knew we had arrived to a paradise

"“A True Paraside of Beauty and Peace” The swimming pool is amazing in between forest and jungle. The central quarters off the pool where Mr. Neal also lives had a beautiful recreational area complete with various pieces of workout equipment. Ken Neal is a visionary and when he first discovered and developed this piece of land starting in 2002 he knew the draw it would have. Ken is a most gracious, wonderful person originally from Canada. We rode with him often into Boquete several times and once into David. He was informative, funny and delightful and always inquired about our needs and comfort. Did we drink the water? Absolutely, and it was wonderful. This was our first time traveling out of the country together as a family and Ken took care of us as though we were his own. After passing many hotels along the freeway on our 8 hour drive from Panama City, then to enter the gates of Boquete River Inn, it took our breath away to see this oasis of beautiful trees and sculpted landscape. We chose to use the taxi service which was VERY reasonable. Ken suggested a certain taxi driver by the name of Ariel and he was spot on for reliability. Ken also loaned us his own cell phone that we just added minutes to, for our convenience. He was truly gracious. Our 15 year old was pleased to have wi-fi of course, but for us... the peace, beauty of the volcano, Vulcan Baru directly in front of us and the night sky filled with sounds of cicada, nocturnal birds, etc. was thrilling. At times heat lightening over the volcano entertained us with magnificent shows. Every couple of days a refreshing downpour in the evening would cool the air and you realized why it's so green and lush. (Very much like the Pacific Northwest where we come from.) This is Panama's winter, so there is more humidity, but the temperature still stays about the same all year long. (Between 78 and 82 degrees F) Boquete is cooler than David and Panama City by far. We experienced that first hand. I have read where some posting their observations about the driveway into the Inn as being too rough. Go slow and steady and you will have no problem. For us it was part of the fun of finding paradise at the end of the road. The price was fantastic. Because it was the slow season and we stayed for 2 weeks we were only charged a minimal cost per day. Thank you, Ken! Boquete is a fabulous place to explore and the food is very cheap and really, really delicious. We got some fantastic bargains there."

  • Fantastic Stay at Valle Escondido

"This property at Valle Escondido has to be seen to be believed! When we first arrived and told a local that we were staying at Valle Escondido he said that it was "Paradise" and he was right! The community itself is an amazing place, but the owners have really spared no expense in building and outfitting this wonderful property. The landscaping is so beautiful, with hundreds of tropical plants and shrubs covering the yard surrounding the home. While technically a "gated community", it does not feel like one at all. Most of the security comes from the fact that the community was built inside a crater surrounded by vertical walls of greenery. But to be honest, Boquete felt very safe anyways The home itself is very spacious with a fully stocked kitchen and all the required necessities to self-cater if you desire. The internet is as fast as the States! I've been to places where you have to bring your own salt & pepper. The owners go above and beyond in providing much more including a whole bag of local coffee, spices, oil, etc. You could easily prepare gourmet meals and enjoy them right on the massive deck. The deck overlooks the beautifully manicured gardens where beautiful birds abound. Just sit on the outdoor couch or chairs and be amazed by the beauty of the place! Overall, I would highly recommend this beautiful property. It is a mere 10 min. drive from the town center where you'll find lots of shopping and restaurants. One consideration is that you would definitely want to rent a car of you decided to stay here. The walk to town is about 20-25 minutes, but to get around Boquete and really appreciate the area, a car is a must. The owners can connect you with a reputable rental car agency. We would definitely stay again!"

  • Felt right at home.

"We loved our stay at Casa Valhalla! The 3 bedroom unit is roomy and comfortable. The kitchen and baths are new and modern. The beds were comfortable and we slept better than we had in months. The back yard is a beautiful place to enjoy playing with your kids. The house is in a great location between town and hiking trails. It was so nice to feel like we were at home instead of in a hotel or hostel. I say book it while you can!"

  • Oasis in a Jungle

"We spent a month this past June 2014 in Panama, and we stayed at El Rio Encantado. We arrived late in the afternoon and Frank, the owner, showed us the way to our cabin, which was cottage 2 where we stayed for the first two weeks, then we moved to cottage 3 for another two weeks and on our last day, we stayed at the guest house. There are 3 cottages, a Guest House, the owner's house and a beautiful tree house (Frank's pride) under construction, which when finished, will have a zip line to cross the river. All cottages were clean and well-equipped. The Guest House is the smallest of all the units. This property is located on the road to Caldera and the river of the same name runs through it. Frank did a good job turning Rio Encantado into a civilized jungle complete with electric gate at the entrance, private roads, lit up pathways and stairs, a big swimming pool and manicured gardens turning a rugged terrain of land, river, waterfall and swimming holes into a designer jungle. What is amazing is that depending on where you are within this property, you can experience different micro climates. Frank's house and the Guest House sit at the entrance of the property with a lookout overlooking his resort and the swimming pool below. The climate there is warm and dry as it is at the highest point in the property. The climate in cottage 2 is warm and humid as it sits half way down the valley and it is under a dense canopy of trees. Cottage 3 is all the way down on the river, the climate there is dry and fresh as the sun comes through the foliage together with a gentle breeze. We were lucky we got to stay in different cottages except for cottage 1 and experienced these subtle but different micro climates, all within walking distance of each other but far enough to allow for privacy. The place was an oasis after a busy day out in town. Frank invited us for dinner in various occasion; once for BBQ hamburgers, the meat was good but the bread was burned. Later on, we learned that he never cooks because he doesn't know how to. So we thank you Frank for trying. On our last day, Frank invited us for a wonderful three course dinner prepared by Pablo, who is Frank's personal chef. Frank and his staff ( Jose and Rebecca) are excellent hosts. We enjoyed our stay and their hospitality. We would definitely recommend Rio Encantado to our friends."
