  • Perfect place to base yourself for a week in Panama!

"We have just returned from one week at Playa Serena. Steve and Dianne’s condo was a perfect spot for our stay. The listing description was accurate and the photos do reflect the condo's appearance and amenities. The condo complex and this unit were spotless and well maintained. The condo itself is simply furnished but has everything you need that you would have in your own home including comfortable living room furniture and king bed, a great gas bar-b-que on the balcony, nice linens and beach towels, kitchen staples. The living room and bedroom are both big and bright. However, the bathroom is very tiny, which to me was odd, given the spaciousness of the rest of the condo. But it was modern and clean. The balcony has table and chairs, but white plastic - a bit more comfy furniture would be nice. Being on the first floor, it was an easy walk to the beach and to the pool, and was very private. We were there in low season, so not too many people around. However, those that we met were very friendly and social. We were told that the complex is 60% Canadian and 40% US residents. The property manager, Carlo, was a very nice, helpful man. Gave us some good suggestions and also helped us out when we had a car problem. He added that sense of security when you are in an unfamiliar place. The complex also has security features - gated at the entrance and at the beach. Any staff we met were friendly. There was only one negative about Playa Serena, but it is temporary. There is construction going on. On one side, a house is being renovated and on the other a high rise complex is being built. So, everyday there is loud construction noise at the pool. At the condo, you could only hear the house renovation out on the balcony, but it was minimal compared to the high rise condo construction noise at the pool. We were told the high rise will be completed by March 2014. I think you would find construction almost anywhere you went along that coastal area. It seems that building is going on everywhere we looked. A few things to note about the Playa Serena area: Nice beach for walking and enjoying the ocean. 10 minute drive to Coronado with modern grocery shops and restaurants. Within an hour’s drive to great hiking and waterfalls in El Valle and near Penonome. One hour outside of Panama City. In all, Playa Serena is a great place to base yourself for exploring the area. We would certainly come back to this condo."

  • A fun time was had by all

"My husband and I just spent two months at this rental. Booking the unit was easy and Amy was very responsive and easy to work with. She answered several questions before we booked. We had an amazing time at Playa Serena. The grounds and condo were meticulously kept and staff was very friendly. Hearing the waves right outside 24/7 was amazing and very relaxing and the view of the ocean from the balcony was breathtaking. We swam in the ocean or the pool or both almost every day. Some days the ocean was warmer than the pool. The photos accurately reflect the apartment and we had most everything we needed. There was good cookware for making our own meals and plenty of silverware and dishes. A few of the kitchen utensils are in need of replacement but we did fine preparing meals. The unit was very comfortable and neighbors in the building were friendly and helpful. We did not have a car but figured out the bus system fairly quickly and got around fine. The view out the balcony was surreal. Palm trees, ocean waves and the pool. What better way to relax. We loved having morning coffee or evening pineapple smoothies on the balcony. We made several trips (by bus) to the mercado and fish market in Rio Hato and had fresh fish frequently. Shopping in Coronado was easy by bus or a $5 taxi ride and the variety of stores had everything we needed. Gorgona is a small fishing village with an expat presence but the real expat population is in Coronado. We liked being close enough to get there yet far enough to be in a more quiet setting. We took the buses to Panama City a few times, to the MiraFlores locks (a must see), Albrook Mall, Multilevel Mall and even rode the subway which just started operating in June. We went whale watching, did trivia night at an expat hangout in Coronado and played giant Jenga at La Ruina which is one of the two restaurants within walking distance from the Playa Serena. We are already planning a return to Gorgona and would definitely stay at this unit again."

  • Absolutely fabulous!

"My husband, teenage son and I recently enjoyed a spectacular week on Contadora Island. We had the pleasure of meeting Peter, a gracious and very honest property owner as well as Kevin & Jasmine, his dedicated Inn Keepers. They were always available to give advice or answer questions to make our stay everything we'd hoped for and more. A fabulous boat tour of the surrounding islands was easily arranged thanks to their guidance. Contadora is a safe, tiny, quiet island and perfect get away with deserted white sand beaches and turquoise waters. Driving around in the Kawasaki mule was a blast. In March it was sunny and a steamy 34 degrees daily with nighttime temperatures only dropping to around 24. As supplies are limited and expensive on Contadora, we tried virtually all of the restaurants and highly recommend Clarita's for an inexpensive local meal or Gerald's for great food/atmosphere (especially when his pet deer Mimi came by to visit)! We would return to Contadora without hesitation and highly recommend reserving your stay with Peter & Anke. Enjoy!"
