  • Perfect place to base yourself for a week in Panama!

"We have just returned from one week at Playa Serena. Steve and Dianne’s condo was a perfect spot for our stay. The listing description was accurate and the photos do reflect the condo's appearance and amenities. The condo complex and this unit were spotless and well maintained. The condo itself is simply furnished but has everything you need that you would have in your own home including comfortable living room furniture and king bed, a great gas bar-b-que on the balcony, nice linens and beach towels, kitchen staples. The living room and bedroom are both big and bright. However, the bathroom is very tiny, which to me was odd, given the spaciousness of the rest of the condo. But it was modern and clean. The balcony has table and chairs, but white plastic - a bit more comfy furniture would be nice. Being on the first floor, it was an easy walk to the beach and to the pool, and was very private. We were there in low season, so not too many people around. However, those that we met were very friendly and social. We were told that the complex is 60% Canadian and 40% US residents. The property manager, Carlo, was a very nice, helpful man. Gave us some good suggestions and also helped us out when we had a car problem. He added that sense of security when you are in an unfamiliar place. The complex also has security features - gated at the entrance and at the beach. Any staff we met were friendly. There was only one negative about Playa Serena, but it is temporary. There is construction going on. On one side, a house is being renovated and on the other a high rise complex is being built. So, everyday there is loud construction noise at the pool. At the condo, you could only hear the house renovation out on the balcony, but it was minimal compared to the high rise condo construction noise at the pool. We were told the high rise will be completed by March 2014. I think you would find construction almost anywhere you went along that coastal area. It seems that building is going on everywhere we looked. A few things to note about the Playa Serena area: Nice beach for walking and enjoying the ocean. 10 minute drive to Coronado with modern grocery shops and restaurants. Within an hour’s drive to great hiking and waterfalls in El Valle and near Penonome. One hour outside of Panama City. In all, Playa Serena is a great place to base yourself for exploring the area. We would certainly come back to this condo."

  • AMAZING!!!!

"This amazing condo lived up to every expectation we had. The condo complex was quiet and beautifully maintained, the ocean was steps away, and the condo itself was impeccably decorated, clean, and luxurious. We (my husband and I and our adult daughter) spent hours reading, lounging, and enjoying the glorious views from the balcony We cooked our meals in the well-appointed kitchen, or barbequed on the porch. The pool was small but clean and beautiful (and we were the only ones there), and the beach was lovely (though the waves were often very powerful, making swimming a challenge). After a long drive, we were met promptly by the friendly manager, Melinda from Denver, who showed us around the condo and let us know she was available to help in any way. When we had trouble with the washing machine, she responded promptly to fix it. Of all the places we stayed in Panama, this was by far our favorite. If you are looking for a place away from the tourist crowds and high-rises (like at Coronado beach where we also stayed), and where the natural beauty of Panama still exists, this is a great choice. We left this little piece of heaven feeling refreshed, relaxed, and wishing we could stay longer. (By the way, the location of this condo is the best in the entire complex)."

  • Excellent Vacation with exercise built in!

"Starfish Reef Villas are excellently appointed! The bedrooms are very comfortable. The decks are great for drinks, watching birds & just hanging out looking at the jungle. & you are up at mid tree level in their jungle. Four of us escaped the cold north lands of Texas & Ohio & went to Panama for this adventure. All of us love to cook & create wonderful food. The kitchen is fully equipped with all the stuff you could want to prepare fabulous meals. Jack & Kelly were wonderful hosts with helpful answers & ideas for adventures. Niko, the tireless grounds keeper, surprized us daily with fresh bananas, opened coconuts, papayas or bush peas. Whatever he found for us around the jungle. He also taught us some new spanish words & some words in his native Indio language. The jungle has lots flowers, huge trees, wonderful plants, birds, frogs, insects & sounds you can't identify or wonder what or who they might be coming from. The beach area is small & very private & wonderful. The snorkeling is good with lots of live corals, reef fish of all sizes, snowflake jelly fish, they don't sting just set on the bottom & lots of colorful starfish. Paddling the cayuco is a bit tricky, but you are already wet anyway. Be sure & take everything you think you want down to the beach with you. Its quite a hike both ways! Jack arranged a day trip to Crawl Caye for snorkeling, A great lunch & the on to Red Frog Beach & some much needed provisioning in Bocas Town. Be sure & make a good shopping list to start with & get everything you might want to take to Shepard Island on your first trip out. You'll be happy if you bring extra bags for your carry out goodies. Remember the beer store is an extra water taxi ride away, $10 each way. WE hope everyone enjoys their stay as much as we did. Thanks Jack & Kelly & Niko"

  • Best Vacay EVER!!!

"Bocas is the perfect place for a getaway! The town is vibrant and fun and has so many great restuarants and bars to choose from! We travelled there for 10 nights for our 5 year anniversary with another couple of our best friends. The house is in the perfect location - walking distance to absolutely everything in Bocas town! There is laundry just a couple doors down as well as bike rental places pretty much everywhere! And if you want to boat taxi somewhere they will pick you up and drop you off right in front of the house on the dock! Hot showers, comfortable beds, hot weather and a great price/night make this the ideal house to rent in Bocas! The house has absolutely everything you could possibly need and if there is something that you can't find in the house you can walk to the store and buy it! Booze was cheap! $4.50 for a six pack of beer or $22 for a 66oz of Bacardi Rum! Obviously we celebrated a little bit! We swam alot - dove off the platform and hung out in hammocks up there! The water is very calm and deep in front of the house - perfect for floating in or a quick dip when it's too hot! The outdoor shower was great to wash the salt off too! Daniel who is the chef at Pukalani hostel (amazingly beautiful hostel biking distance from the house) picked us up at the airport and took very good care of us at the house the entire time - anything we needed he helped us with! We also highly recommend that you eat at Pukalani if you can! The food we ate there was some of the best we had in all of Panama! If your looking for a place to stay in Bocas this is it! The pictures on VRBO totally don't do the house justice! We absolutely loved it here and would not hesitate for a second to book this house in Bocas again!"

Panama Travel Tips

Getting to Panama Vacation Rentals

The Tocumen International Airport in Panama City is located not far from the city center. Because of the rapid expansion of the city in recent decades, roads and traffic can be particularly chaotic and you need to allow for additional time to get to and from the airport. Panama City Airport hosts most major North American, South American and European Airlines. There are regular daily scheduled flights that link Panama City with other major cities in the United States and neighboring countries. If you are traveling to a region outside of Panama City such as Bocas Del Toro, you will need to get a domestic connection from the Marcos A. Gelabert Regional Airport. This is the airport that hosts most regional flights to the rest of Panama. In Panama, the best way to get around is by taxi. Car rental is not recommended unless you are traveling in more remote areas.

Panama Travel Attractions

The Panama Canal is a major engineering feat and one of the country’s biggest attractions. You can visit the Miaflores Visitors Center and join a guided tour explaining the history, construction and modern-day operations of the canal. Then while enjoying lunch or a cup of coffee at the restaurant, you can watch the locks operating and see the ships passing through. Half-day and full-day cruises on the canal will take you through a number of locks.

Panama City has a number of interesting landmarks and museums. Most are open throughout the year and provide interesting and unique insights into Panama’s history and culture. Unfortunately, not all museums have both English and Spanish transcriptions on their exhibits so it is sometimes useful to have a Spanish-speaking guide with you. The Old City is known as the Panama-Viejo. This is original site of the first settlement in Panama. The city was once a base for Spanish conquests but was destroyed by fire in 1671 when it came under attack of the famous English pirate Henry Morgan. The historical heart of Panama City is the Casco-Viejo. Here, you can see some colonial architectural masterpieces. Browse the shops and enjoy a cup of coffee at one of the street cafés.

The Bocas Del Toro Archipelago is a group of islands that is a marine paradise. Home to the first nature reserve in Panama, the islands offer a quiet retreat where you can forget all about corporate city life for a while. There are excellent diving and snorkeling on the islands. Many have great beach breaks and are popular surfing spots. Birdwatching is a favorite pastime and you can spend many leisurely hours on the beachfront.

Stylish Comforts at Panama Beach Houses

If you want a truly relaxing vacation then rent one of the beach houses in Panama. Enjoy a quiet rural ambience and have a vacation where you can put your feet up and do whatever you please. Stroll down to the local restaurant for lunch and enjoy a home-cooked seafood meal. In the evening, you can enjoy sundowners on the deck as the sun sets behind you. The homes are either cozy cottages or more spacious homes depending on your rental requirements. Living areas are comfortable and rooms are tastefully furnished.

Seasons to Visit Bocas Del Toro Vacation Rentals in Panama

The dry season in Panama occurs between February and April and again between September and October. This coincides with the more popular tourist season. In general, Panama experiences a year-round warm tropical climate with average annual temperatures around 82 degrees Fahrenheit.
