  • Twelve thumbs up!

"If you are looking for a place to stay on a secluded beach surrounded by incredible beauty and wildlife, adventure and some really good eateries close by, Casa de Memphis I may well be your ticket to Nirvana. CdM I is well appointed, clean and has all the essential comforts needed to kick back and relax. Lots to do and see in the surrounding area, although we liked Playa Pelada just outside of our door the best . Our group of 6 - (2 couples and 2 grown sons) had plenty of space and were comfortable although the 2 guys had to sleep on the couch and a cot that was available (there's also a bunk bed for younger kids). We pretty much split eating in and out. There was a pescaderia a few kilometers east of Nosara that had fabulous fresh fish (tuna, snapper, shrimp) to bring home and cook and a couple of local groceries that were well stocked for the expats and the tourists visiting the area. We ate very well. This is a special location in Costa Rica to enjoy nature and Casa de Memphis I is the perfect place to stay to take full advantage of it."

  • The cow crosses the road

"Costa Rica was just what the doctor ordered. Our family trip included some awesome adventures ( white water rafting & zip lining across the jungle), balanced out by some time at the pool, beach, spa & golf course. We arranged our trips through Tamarindo transfers & tours, and they were wonderful with everything. Prompt, courteous, friendly. We had the same driver( Rodolfo) for all of our trips and he became part of the "family". The location of the property was ideal, close to many amazing restaurants, beach & nearby supermarket( to stock up on some breakfast items, coffee & beverages). Most within a short walk or cab ride. While dining at one of local beachfront restaurants( Nogus), a cow walked on the path through the restaurant. The four of us were amazed, like he knew where he was going. We enjoyed coffee on the patio most most mornings & after dinner drinks in the evening. The owner of the property provided a thorough description of activities, restaurants & places of interest to visit, so it was a wonderful resource for a first timer at the property. Plenty of space for the family, and had almost everything you needed( I forgot a hairdryer). Plenty of lounge chairs at the pool, and we were able to rent chairs/umbrellas at the beach for a nominal fee. Wish we had more time to try some of the other restaurants & cute little coffee shops around town. Hope we can get back soon!!"

  • Great private cottage near everything

"My husband and I stayed here for 15 nights and thoroughly enjoyed our time. We were here for the end of the dry season so had to deal with nightly water shut-offs (typically from 9pm - 6am) and occasional power outages. Nothing inhibiting at all to our stay. We rented bicycles to get around the village (with surf racks). The roads are very rustic so if you want to go exploring, I HIGHLY recommend renting AWD vehicle or a 4-wheeler. We surfed almost everyday, took may yoga classes at Nosara Yoga Institute, relaxed, etc. The hammocks are really great. The shower(s) had plenty of hot water. Everything in the kitchen and the wifi worked great. The cottage has two other cottages nearby but the plants around the porch help you feel like you are in your own private oasis. One of the neighbors were a really friendly Canadian couple visiting. The other neighbors were not so friendly and had dogs that barked ALL the time. Kind of frustrating at first but we learned to deal with it. The bed is reasonably comfy. It is a firm bed which I like but my husband prefers a softer mattress so he struggled the first few nights to get comfortable. The cottage is very clean and neat. We opted for the a/c which was a really nice break from the heat (mid-90s) and helped us sleep better. The cottage is very secure but you need to bring your things in at night - we left some items drying on the clothesline overnight and had some theft (as did our neighbors). The local food is delicious - fresh pineapple, coconut, watermelon, cantaloupe, strawberries, mangoes and other fresh veggies. I highly recommend checking out Tibidabo. It was an excellent Spanish Tapas restaurant. The prices of things in this area are fairly high for Latin America. Expect to pay American prices. Almost everyone speaks english here. The sunsets are AMAZING and it's a great time to surf. When you get to Guiones Beach, take a left and walk 100-300 meters for waves. These waves are great for novice surfing. The waves to the right are much larger and stronger - where the good surfers go. They are really fun to watch! This is a great beach for all levels surfing. Playa Pelada, just north is a really nice beach to visit and hang at with 2 restaurants with beach views and cool rocky ledges along the beach to explore. Take the beach there at low tide. All in all, a fantastic stay. Jason, the owner was very easy to communicate with as well as Virginie and Ivan, the property managers."

  • Amazing house, great location!

"The Casa Roca setting is beautiful and secluded, but my favorite part of being there was the well-designed house which completely opens up to breezes and wonderful views. The kitchen is great, the furniture is comfortable, the AC is a blessing, everything about the house is appealing! We enjoyed our walks through the colorful Afro-Carribean community of Old Bank to get to the water taxi dock and loved eating at Alvin and Kecha’s restaurant on the water. A couple of days into our week-long stay the underwater cable to Bastimentos was accidentally cut and the whole town was without electricity for several days. Everyone was so nice to us in this situation. Santiago, the caretaker, brought many buckets of water. Property manager, Tyson, called to make sure we were alright and kept calling with updates. He sent a cooler of ice by water taxi from Bocas and when the outage threatened to go on, tried to find other accommodations on Colon or Carenero, but it was Easter weekend and nothing much was available. Regretfully, we decided to leave the Bocas area early and move on to our next destination in the Highlands. Jerry, the owner, (who lives in Florida and is great to work with by email) offered us a refund which he didn’t have to do. It all ended well, but we were just starting to settle in when this all happened. I think we’ll have to go back and spend a few more days at Casa Roca sometime!"
