  • Exceptional jungle island adventure

"This wonderful place hosted our family of eight adults for a holiday adventure and met all of our expectations. The house is a perfect vacation home. Four bedrooms. Huge great room with two-story vaulted ceiling. Plus a huge porch under the roof of the house where we ate dinner. Well equipped kitchen. The house is located next to azul paradise, a small Eco-resort and here's the best thing: you are treated ad a guest of the resort so you get access to all of their water sports equipment and excursions. The spectacular beach is a stone's throw from the house. The Indian village of salt creek is a 10 minute kayak ride away. Their tour of the jungle is a bit on the muddy side but a cool adventure. Snorkeling was best at coral caye. Surfing, paddle boarding, kayaking, swimming are all right there. Jungle island adventure or serious getaway are perfect for this spot."

  • Perfect, fantastic beach house,

"Casa Kalumina is a place of unexpected adventures and luxurious silences, of being greeted by name the second time you stop for breakfast at the surf school down the street, and enjoying vegetarian pizza while listening to a live jazz/reggae trio a five-minute stroll from the front door – under a cloudless canopy of a billion stars. If I sound a little over enthusiastic, trust me, I haven't scratched the surface. We stayed with two other couples and a single friend and each had spacious, private accommodations. It seemed twice as many would be an easy fit with a little communal spirit. A gorgeous, lush garden ensures absolute privacy. The house is thoughtfully laid out with well-appointed kitchen, bathrooms, and spacious common areas including a breezy covered deck with a seductive hammock secreted over the garage. The beds are comfortable and the furnishings tasteful but practical. Friendly and unobtrusive folks tend to the pool and grounds so everything is always groomed and inviting. There was never a bit of trash on the huge beach unless you count the thousands of seashells. There were very few other people on the beach. I never noticed any biting insects. About a half-hour walk up the beach is a turtle museum, a yoga studio, and a nice bar/restaurant with fine, spicy Bloody Marys. Casa Kalumina is a treasure; enjoy it. You will not want to leave. Pura Vida. Pure life!"

  • Nicest place we've stayed in CR

"We stayed four nights, including New Years Eve. This place is really nice inside. High ceilings, loft bedroom, nice marble and teak floors. Abundant lighting, towel bars, closet space, washer/dryer and a full set of high end cooking pans; items not often found in Tico vacation homes. Short walk to the beach, and a longer but pleasant walk along the beach to town center. The patio area is nice and the outside shower is indispensable after returning from the beach. Deborah knows everything about the area and provided a hand drawn map to Playa Barringona. We highly recommend this beach; probably the nicest beach we have been to in all Costa Rica, but you'll need 4WD to get there. Dogs, chickens and traffic noise were not really a problem. All pretty typical for Costa Rica. We'll definitely be going back!"

  • Best part of our trip

"My wife and I spent a week here during our honeymoon in April 2014 - it was absolutely perfect and definitely one of the highlights of our trip. The house has some of the best views in all of Costa Rica, tastefully decorated, comfortable beds, lots of space - feels like a home away from home. There are several beaches a short drive away. The property manager was very friendly and helpful - she went above & beyond to make us feel at home. I would recommend this property to anyone."
