  • The Garden House-Perfect Apartment in a Perfect Town

"Our beautiful "Garden House" apartment, housed in an old family palazzo, was a pure delight. Furnished with antiques and family heirlooms, but at the same time cozy and comfortable; it was bright, open, and very spacious as well as being spotlessly clean. In addition to a large living area with flat screen TV and modern kitchen, 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, we also had a charming sitting room (with additional TV) which opened out onto a lovely walled and terraced garden - complete with sun loungers and tables and chairs - perfect for enjoying a leisurely breakfast or a late afternoon glass of wine. The large front windows looked down over the rolling Tuscan countryside with views of vineyards, olive groves, cypress trees, and farmhouses - it doesn't get any better than this! Our delightful and gracious hostess - Antonella - made our stay so enjoyable with her sightseeing, shopping, and restaurant recommendations (don't miss the Osteria del Conte, a wonderful bistro right around the corner from the apt.) as well as making sure that we had everything we needed during our stay. We also had the pleasure of meeting charming Giacomo, who very professionally handles the reservations for the apartments - they both went to great lengths to make us feel welcome. The town of Montepulciano was our favorite, hands down, of all the towns and villages that we visited in Tuscany and the Orcia Valley (and there were many!). Large enough to have numerous good restaurants and shops, but still small and intimate enough to escape the mass tourism and commercialism of some of the other towns, Montepulciano and the surrounding area are the epitome of Tuscan atmosphere and charm. Thank you, Antonella and Giacomo, for helping to make our stay in Tuscany so wonderful and memorable - we hope to come back soon."

Cyprus Travel Tips

Visitors to Cyprus Vacation Rentals

Cyprus has a long and detailed history dating back to pre-Biblical times. Many visitors who travel to Cyprus do so because they have a strong interest in ancient history and civilizations. There are many archeological sites and places of interest to visit on the island. The many museums showcase the country's turbulent past. Cyprus is also an ideal destination for those who enjoy exploring the outdoors. One of the most popular ways to get around the island is by bicycle. There are many mapped routes for cyclists who explore the island's natural and cultural sites. Golfers are attracted to the island's three 18-hole golf courses. The warm climate makes Cyprus a popular year-round golfing destination. Sun lovers can choose from the soft sandy beaches of the eastern coast or the pebble beaches that are found on the western and southern coasts.

Attractions near Cyprus Lodging

There are four major cities on the island of Cyprus. The capital Lefkosia is located in the middle of the island. It has an ancient old quarter that is surrounded by a Venetian sandstone wall. This wall was once a protective fortress around the city. The newer and more cosmopolitan parts of the city are beyond the wall. Lefkosia is a wonderful blend of both old and new culture. Lemesos is known for its vibrant nightlife. It is located along the southern coastline and the second largest city on the island. It is also the center of Cyprus' wine industry. Lemesos is probably one of the most popular tourist destinations on the island and there are many resorts and tourist facilities here. Larnaka is located on the southwestern coastline and home to the major international airport. It is a modern city that has a beautiful marina and palm-lined promenade. There are several cultural sites and shrines that hold great importance to both the Christian and Islam religions.

Pafos is located on the western coast and a city known for its magnificent mosaics. It is also where many of the more significant archeological finds have taken place. Just outside of the city you can visit the famous "Tombs of the Kings." These rock-hewn tombs are believed to date back to early Hellenistic and Roman times, making them intriguing to visit.

The Best Cyprus Travel Seasons

Cyprus has a typically Mediterranean climate where summer months are hot and dry and the most rainfall occurs in the cooler, winter months. Summer is typically the peak travel season and temperatures can get very hot. Visitors should have adequate sun protection in the form of sunhats and sunscreen. Because of its mild climate, Cyprus can be visited year-round. The only season when the weather is less pleasant is between December and February when most of the rainfall occurs.

Getting to Cyprus

Cyprus is an island in the Mediterranean, located just south of Turkey and to the west of Syria. The island's international airport is located in Larnaca. The airport hosts regularly scheduled international flights with many major European countries. Most popular routings are to London, Rome, Milan, Amsterdam, Paris and Frankfurt. The local airline benefits from daytime flights whereas most international carriers land late at night or in the early hours of the morning. During the summer months, there are sometimes ferries that connect Cyprus and the Greek island of Rhodes; however, the schedules are somewhat erratic. There are no scheduled ferry services between Cyprus and Syria or Israel; however, private cruises do sometimes link these destinations in peak travel season.
