Prague is accessible from Prague International airport which is approximately a 30-minute drive from the city. It is the largest city of the Czech Republic and has been the capital for over 1,100 years. From 1992, the historic center has been dedicated as a World Heritage Site. It is a riverfront city, sitting on the Vltava River in the region of central Bohemia. With a humid continental climate, the city has warm summers and cold winters. Exploring the city around Prague vacation rentals is easy by the public transport system of metros, buses and trams. The most convenient way is to buy a tourist pass which is valid on all public transport, as many times as required for the time period of the pass. The metro system is safe, clean and easy to access.

Prague is one of Europe’s Most Charming Cities

Prague is one of the few European cities that survived both World Wars relatively unscathed. Its historic buildings are still littered with beautiful murals. Dating from the 13th century, the oldest area is Old Town. Here, visitors will enjoy strolling through the Old Town square, enjoying the live music. There are several interesting museums, including the museum of Czech Cubism and that of Decorative Arts. Here, visitors can find Josefov, the old Jewish quarter located between the Old Town Square and the river. There is a fascinating museum with an excellent collection of Jewish art, silver and textiles. While here, take time to appreciate the astronomical clock which is mounted on the south wall of the Old Town Hall in the square. One feature of the clock is the "Walk of the Apostles" which is the movement of 12 figures passing across the windows every hour.

The next area to explore may be New Town, where the buildings date from the 19th and 20th centuries. Much of the surrounding areas were raised to the ground during a fire in 1875 but the street layout remains. Here, visitors can find great nightlife with restaurants, bars and nightclubs in and around Wenceslas Square. Also here is Lucerna Palace, with theaters, clubs, and restaurants. Visitors should not miss a visit to the National Museum; dating from 1818, the museum houses over 14 million items covering natural history, art and music. The other museum is the Prague City Museum, where artifacts date back from prehistoric times; there is a fascinating model of the city in it. While here, enjoy a stroll across the 12th-century Charles Bridge. The final area to discover is the Western Bank where the Lesser Town, or Mala Strana, is found. This is one of the city’s oldest areas on the banks of the river, just below the Prague Castle. There is a fascinating recent addition to the centuries of history at the Lennon Wall; a tribute to John Lennon after his death in 1980. Around the square, there is a wealth of beautiful palaces, as well as a working monastery at Hradcany Square. Also here is Prague Castle itself. This is the oldest castle in the world, erected in the 9th century.

Explore Outside the City for Even More Beauty

Just beyond the city center is a variety of interesting day trips within easy distance of Prague apartments. Visit the vineyard at Vinohrady, the "Castle on the heights" at Vysehrad, and the Petrinska Rozhledna, a steel-framed tower similar to the Eiffel Tower in Paris.
