  • Beautiful Berbiguières - Perfect for exploring the Perigord Noir

"What a fantastic experience we had. The cottage in Berbiguières was just what we needed to get the full experience of the Perigord Noir/Dordogne Region of France. It's centrally located just south of the river and an easy drive to so many charming communities and chateaus throughout the region. Not to mention that Berbiguières itself is a quaint, country community that is full of charm and relaxation. Our entire experience was top notch - from making the reservation with the owner to working with the local property manager. The cottage is well appointed and has everything you need for enjoying your time at the cottage and resting between outings exploring the region. You're greeted by a quaint covered patio just through the gate, situated along the walking path from the center of the village. You open the door and pass through a thick stone wall that transports you to the past with all the creature comforts of the present. A comfortable living room/dining room/kitchen offers the perfect space to plan your daily excursions or to consume your purchases from one of the local public markets. There are two bedrooms - one upstairs and one on the lower level (three stories) that offered us plenty of privacy as we were two couples traveling together. The bathroom included a wonderful shower that worked well for someone taller like me - not to mention great water pressure. All in all, I cannot begin to say enough words of compliments or thanks for such a great experience and stay. The cottage helped make our trip to the Dordogne special, memorable and down right perfect! Thanks for making it available to us - as our travels allow, we'd love to go back. Merci beaucoup!!"

  • Location - Beautiful Beynac - Incredible - WOW!!!

"My family stayed in this wonderful accommodation in the Autumn 2013 (November). Although we only stayed three nights, we cannot recommend Xanthe and her home highly enough. Travelled with my wife, parents, sister in law and our two children (7 in total) - perfect accommodation for our group. The three nights that we spent by the Dordogne were just not long enough. Xanthe had kindly put on the lights for us and lit the fire during the afternoon so it was very cozy when we arrived during the evening. Located above the village and below Chateaux de Beynac which is perched high on the cliff above, it was easy to shop for food with a small convenience store only 200 metres away, leaving more time to soak up all that this magical part of the world has to offer. The four storey house was very large, comfortable, spotlessly clean and in a fabulous location. Every possible convenience is available and we loved the roaring fire. Xanthe takes a lot of pride in her business and it shows - all communications were precise and quick. All of the beds were very comfortable and the kitchen was well appointed with utensils and equipment to self-cater with ease. Incredible history – this is the ancient post office – the movie Chocolat was filmed in the laneway at the front of the house. As this beautiful house is located on the side of a cliff, the laneways are narrow and steep - for older people, a reasonable amount of fitness is needed to make the trek up and down to the streets below or Chateaux de Beynac above. While we were there, we enjoyed the Saturday market in Sarlat and walked the nearby villages, the standout adventure for us was walking up to the chateaux to take in the AMAZING views. The booking process was easy, the rental rate was amazing value for money and the house was even better than the photos and description provided. I'm a travel agent and will be sending all my clients here! We will definitely be coming back. One regret - we forgot to fill in the visitors book - you should read what past guests have to say - amazing!"

  • Luxury Accommodation in a Beautiful City.

"This is a really special apartment with all the up-to-date facilities you could wish for to make your stay exceptional. The design is very interesting with sliding doors making the patio part of the main living room, ideal for indoor-outdoor living, though shade is hard to come by in the afternoon. The art work and decor are a feature of the accommodation. There is an underground garage for your car, which you don't really need to take out again if you wish to explore the delights of Biarritz, as the building is very well situated, and you can always use the free navette to get around the town if you don't feel like walking, but it is only a few minutes to the main beach on foot. Communication with the owner was excellent throughout and the hand-overs with the charming local agent went smoothly. The apartment was clean (a cleaner comes in midweek as well) and very well maintained. I would certainly recommend this apartment to friends considering a stay in Biarritz. It is not an economy holiday, but the experience is well worth it."

  • Perfect location, cozy and homey cottage, helpful owners -- just what we wanted!

"I can't recommend this cottage highly enough -- especially for families with young children. I stayed for one week with my husband and two small daughters -- a 2-year-old and a 6-month-old. I was truly sad to leave -- it felt like it had become our home. Emmanuelle was responsive (and very patient!) to all my questions about the cottage and how it would work for my young children. (Such as could we leave the shutters open in their room in the August heat and not worry about an intruder? Not an issue because of the clever ways the shutters can be closed, she patiently explained -- and was so correct.) She even arranged for a travel cot for the baby to sleep in. She really went above and beyond what she needed to do to be helpful and make us feel welcome. Once we arrived, it really felt like we were staying in a home. The location also couldn't be better. Every morning my daughters and I would open the shutters and take big breaths of the sea air. So close to the market, the bakeries, the beaches, and the downtown. We didn't have a car and never missed it. We took the bus from the airport, walked the few blocks from the bus stop to the cottage, and walked everywhere else after that. Some other highlights: Fast wifi -- so we could stream youtube videos of french lessons! And listen to the BBC in the morning. Lots of helpful binders of information about the town. Useful leftovers from previous visitors -- such as beach toys, rain umbrellas, some very good books, and even a beach umbrella that we used every day. Regular communication from Emmanuelle checking in on our visit. Like other reviewers noted, the door and front windows do open right up onto the street and sidewalk. But even with two children, we were not troubled by the noise or the presence of people walking by. There seems to a courtesy rule that people walking by don't peek in! I put the pram in front of the open door and I never worried that my toddler would run into the street. Other reviewers also commented on the "coziness" of the cottage. Yes, it's small -- but that was part of the fun -- all being together. And there was a lovely park around the corner and the beach just down the road if anyone needed to get away for a moment of silence (often necessary with 2 young children). I really can't recommend this place highly enough! I already hope to return."
