  • Private paradise by the river Dordogne

"A lovingly restored former post station, this pretty house is in a wonderful spot - directly by the river and surrounded by a huge private garden with a decent sized pool. The two bedrooms are generously sized and tastefully decorated on the first floor with a private staircase and off a private landing. The bathroom is in the middle - very suitable for a family of 4 (with kids old enough to be a bathroom away) or two couples sharing - though one bedroom clearly had the edge with a little sofa and overlooking the garden. We spent 5 summer days at Chambres Armanse and could barely believe our luck. While the other guests (a double room and gite) also had access to the pool, we had it to ourselves a lot of the time - what a treat - when we weren't busy building dams by the river edge. Agnes was a wonderful host, we took advantage of her French breakfast - coffee, sweet Viennoiserie, home made jam, fruit - which she served outside when the sun was out. Slightly odd - rooms are cleaned/beds made only on request. Everything is sparkling though and very nicely designed, including the shared area downstairs (the pictures you see of the colourful armchairs)."

  • Perfect village house

"This house lived up to its billing. Climb the steep hill to Mont Joie amongst the tourists, use the large and ancient (?) key and step into a peaceful, spacious and well appointed house. The views from the living room and the balcony are exceptional. We greatly enjoyed using the barbecue on the balcony in the evening. The house is vertically arranged with two floors of bedrooms/bathrooms and the living accommodation above at "entrance" level. I would say this house would be perfect for two couples holidaying together, with two first class bedroom suites, although there is a third smaller bedroom with two bunk beds."

  • Ideal for a group of friends

"Six friends descended on this villa in Monflanquin, a lovely small bastide town for a week of relaxation, laughs, good food and wine in this extremely comfortable house that did not disappoint. It lived up to our expectations completely - it was well appointed and the excellent kitchen and dining area became a hub for us. Great breakfast feasts were had each morning after a visit to one of the local bakeries of which there were at least three within walking distance. Found plenty to do during the day, including wandering around Monflanquin, visiting a number of small nearby towns (eg Cancon, Pujols), and sites like La Roque Gageac on the Dordogne and Domme another lovely bastide town, and Chateau Bonaguil in Fumel. Had fun shopping at local markets- and found lots of good food and wine as we preferred to cook for ourselves and eat in each evening. The owner was particularly helpful answering questions and offering assistance. Wifi access was a bonus we all appreciated. A highly recommended villa where we had a fabulous week."
