  • Even Better Than Expected!!!

"This is a wonderful place to stay -- even better than it appears in the photos. The pool is great, the kitchen is incredibly well-equipped, and the home is much larger than it appears. The house has a wonderful feeling to it -- incredibly welcoming, with lots of space and plenty of nooks for curling up with a coffee and/or a wonderful book. A perfect balcony overlooks the pool with a wonderful view of the Dordogne hills. The village is great, with a bakery, a small grocery, a bar, and a restaurant. The area is great for sightseeing, with plenty of recommendations provided by the owners. We loved our stay here, and would go back in a heartbeat."

  • Great Countryside Retreat

"Four retired senior citizens thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Le Grindoux at the end of April 2013. The description of the property was accurate and was as comfortable as it appears in the photos. The owners' local representative, Hilary Lloyd, was most helpful and provided food and wine for our late afternoon arrival. The house and bedrooms were very comfortable and the outdoor area was great for sitting and enjoying a glass of local wine and reflecting on our adventures after a day's explorations. It was a very relaxing location and perfect as a "home base" for exploring the countryside and nearby attractions: local wineries, market days in nearby Bastide towns, visiting Bergerac, Sarlat, and Lascaux II with its prehistoric cave paintings. Even drove as far as the amazing caverns of the Gouffre de Padriac and the UNESCO World Heritage site of Roc Amador. The nearby grocery stores and bakeries provided all the necessities; we also ate a delicious meal at La Marechalerie, a restaurant in town and at the Monte Cristo, on the road to Villeral. Would highly recommend a stay here."

  • Location - Beautiful Beynac - Incredible - WOW!!!

"My family stayed in this wonderful accommodation in the Autumn 2013 (November). Although we only stayed three nights, we cannot recommend Xanthe and her home highly enough. Travelled with my wife, parents, sister in law and our two children (7 in total) - perfect accommodation for our group. The three nights that we spent by the Dordogne were just not long enough. Xanthe had kindly put on the lights for us and lit the fire during the afternoon so it was very cozy when we arrived during the evening. Located above the village and below Chateaux de Beynac which is perched high on the cliff above, it was easy to shop for food with a small convenience store only 200 metres away, leaving more time to soak up all that this magical part of the world has to offer. The four storey house was very large, comfortable, spotlessly clean and in a fabulous location. Every possible convenience is available and we loved the roaring fire. Xanthe takes a lot of pride in her business and it shows - all communications were precise and quick. All of the beds were very comfortable and the kitchen was well appointed with utensils and equipment to self-cater with ease. Incredible history – this is the ancient post office – the movie Chocolat was filmed in the laneway at the front of the house. As this beautiful house is located on the side of a cliff, the laneways are narrow and steep - for older people, a reasonable amount of fitness is needed to make the trek up and down to the streets below or Chateaux de Beynac above. While we were there, we enjoyed the Saturday market in Sarlat and walked the nearby villages, the standout adventure for us was walking up to the chateaux to take in the AMAZING views. The booking process was easy, the rental rate was amazing value for money and the house was even better than the photos and description provided. I'm a travel agent and will be sending all my clients here! We will definitely be coming back. One regret - we forgot to fill in the visitors book - you should read what past guests have to say - amazing!"
