Under Beynac Castle
"Ruth and Mike's home in Beynac was a dream vacation home. We stayed in the home for 8 glorious nights in weather ranging from cool to quite hot. The house was comfortable throughout using the shutters during the day and opening them and the windows at night. We chose not to have large meals in the home but could see that it was well equipped to serve more than two people.
We used the home as a base for exploring the Vezere Valley and the castles and towns along the Dordogne. Since we were away for much of each day, we ate our large meal at lunch and had breakfast and an evening snack at he home. Even though we were both somewhat mobility challenged, we were able to adapt to our rental car being parked some distance away. The evening views from both the comfortable living room and the terrace drew us back for a comfortable evening and night.
Ruth provided comprehensive information which we found very useful. We were able to see Font de Gaume because we had warning that an advance reservation was essential. Ruth was also able to accommodate our last minute request to come one day early when we ran into difficulties at another rental. Although we dealt at a distance we felt we were dealing with cordial hosts who wished us to have a pleasant stay.
W found the Sunday market in St Cyprien and the Tuesday market in Le Bugue to be lively. We enjoyed Cap Blanc, Lascoux II and the villages of St Leon sur Vezere and St Amand de Coly in the Vezere Valley. Dejuener sur L'Herbe in St Leon offered a great picnic lunch aside the Vezere. La Belle Etoile and La Plume d'Oie were excellent restaurants in La Roque. Le Gabarrier in Allas Les Mines on the south side of the Dordogne was also excellent. Our favorite in the area was probably Le Cro Marin in St Cyprien, a small, informal restaurant serving wonderful seafood.
Ruth advised to get a weekly parking pass from the Mairie. That was good advice though we were unable to take full advantage of it because the Mairie was closed for the first three days of our stay. Howver we did learn that the pass permitted parking at all the town lots not just the lot at Pl d' Alsace. We found the lot at the boat landing more suited to our needs and were always able to find a space.
Although we recommend the property for those 55+, they need to be aware of the need to go up and down stairs and walk significant distances(part of which will be steep) to get back and forth We were able to cope with that."

"Accueil et cadre très agréables. Nous avons à la fois goûté au plaisir des feux de cheminée et à celui de nombreuses randonnées dans les environs. On se sent vite "à la maison". Merci pour la chaleur de l'accueil.
