  • Home Away from Home

"We just finished staying four weeks and felt right at home. Being in our 60's, we enjoyed the enthusiasm of the younger generation that were our neighbors. During the World Cup we heard spontaneous singing of the French national anthem, cheering, and celebrations. It kept us young and feeling as part of the neighborhood. Eneka and Antoine were both very helpful and supportive. We found our favorite little spots for breakfast, coffee, etc. The tram was easy and one does not really need a car. We couldn't have asked for a more perfect setting to help us celebrate 40 years of marriage. Bordeaux is a wonderful city and we felt fortunate to have found this place. Voilà!"

  • Super location

"Two couples, two weeks. First the "pros": The site of the former watermill couldn't be more charming. The sounds of the waterfalls and birds are delightful, and though away from the tourist action (you MUST have a car) this is pretty convenient for sightseeing and dining. It's a unique home with lots of character. Cons: There are no supplies stocked for tenants. Bring your own salt & pepper, cleaning supplies, paper towels, other paper products, garbage bags, toiletries, etc. There's a large Carrefours market nearby, but it closes mid-day and Sunday afternoons. Some maintenance issues. Special note: Owner and her charming adult daughter were extremely helpful when we had a car problem and were stranded at house. They were life-savers for us. Equipment: note that there is no telephone. If you stay in high summer, note that A/C is only one portable unit on second floor. "Canoe" was not available to us."

  • Exactly what you hope for!

"Anyone who has used the auspice of an online vacation home rental service knows the pitfalls, even disasters that can mar a vacation. And, then there are (through no genius of one's own) selections made that exceed your expectations. This property does just that. First of all, the property is located in what must be the literal geographical center of 90% of what you would want to visit-chateaus, gardens, grottos, dining, markets, a major town center. The longest trip we took in three weeks was to Pech Merle to visit the cave with 40,000 year old drawings and that took us all of 1 hour 40 minutes. Beynac is 10 mins; Les Ezyies is 20 mins; La Roque Gageac - 25 mins, and the main town of Sarlat, where one of France's great Saturday markets is located, is all of 15 mins. A supermarket is half that time away. The house itself is quite lovely (the rooms being smaller than the pictures which didn't misrepresent but were shot from a perspective that makes the space look larger). A nice sized kitchen area to work in and prepare meals. A lovely rear outdoor dining area. Working barbecue. Lovely and well maintained swimming pool and terrific sauna and hot tub, which over the course of our stay was utilized fully. When we arrived Mme Laval and another were finishing the cleaning of the house which we found really quite immaculate. Mme. Laval, who we mostly dealt with, could not have been more charming, sincere, interested in our travels and intent on our having a rewarding stay and experience. She took the time to instruct us, gave us some ideas, changed our sheets weekly, and even (since the nights just started to get cold) came over to turn on the heat. This is a highly recommended location and house."

  • Wonderful!

"Such great hosts and so very nice! They were very helpful with directions, recommendations, etc. Their home is close to some beautiful areas to see in France. Very convenient. At night I was pretty tired from all the sight seeing and I had a good nights sleep in a very comfortable bed. They told me it would be very quiet at night there and it was. It was one of the quietest places an night I've ever been to. Even though it was partly cloudy the nights I was there, I could still see the stars at night. I was told the stars at night there are stunning when it's a clear night. Highly recommended!"
